Conservative Deputy Opposition Leader Candice Bergen wearing a MAGA hat : Manitoba (reddit.com)
>Dear Ms. Bergen,
>
>It was with heavy hearts and burdened minds that we observed the picture of you wearing a camouflage MAGA [Make America Great Again] hat.
>
>Even though recently you have said that the hat did not belong to you and that it was handed to you, you must have made the choice to place it on your head and allow a photo.
>
>Of course, we all know what lies beneath our hats is unique, is symbolic. As mysterious as it is, it also tells us who we are, gives us an identity, and tells us what our worldview is.
>
>Are there other secrets tucked, disguised under the hat, like hate, white supremacy, racism? Is there more?
>
>Oh yes, exceptionalism and particularism? This is not easy to explain, Ms. Bergen, but we would dearly love to know who you are.
>
>Only superhuman intelligence understands how one can denounce and strongly condemn violence and be horrified by it and still wear a MAGA hat.
>
>In keeping with the humanitarian values that built this nation, we want to present you with an alternative hat to wear: one from the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. This one encourages us to practise generosity, justice, to feed the hungry, the poor, to promote tolerance, diversity and understanding.
>
>For further inspiration we would all do well to listen to the story of a Cherokee grandfather teaching his grandson about life:
>
>βA fight is going on inside me,β he said to the boy. βIt is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evilβhe is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
>
>The other is goodβhe is joy, peace, love, hope, ser
Strong woman, pretty, with sharp, handsome features, square head. I'm picturing her in business suits. I think had a show in the '80s or maybe early part of the '90s. It's not Candice Bergen or Markie Post, but she reminds me of them because I think she played a no-nonsense, professional businesswoman and at the time that was a big deal. I keep thinking Madelyne Prior but that's a comic book character.
EDIT: Cybill Shepherd. I just could not think of her and couldn't remember Moonlighting. It made my brain hurt.
William Shatner "portrays" Denny Crane, who turns Shatner's tropes up to 11, while still offering serious perspective into a ton of issues from senility to conservative politics. He's a great foil for, yet best friend with, Spader as Alan Shore (who keeps an exceptionally clean penis) - who portrays a mercenary yet strangely principled liberal attorney who somehow forms a deep and compassionate friendship with Denny Crane.
The show tackles issues that are scarily relevant today, from issues with unreasonable judges to civil rights, and often does a good job of portraying all sides of an issue, while maintaining a lighthearted and humorous tone.
I watch the show as it came out, and was heartbroken it only ran from 2004-2008, and own it on DVD. But I recently noticed it was on Hulu and have been re-watching it. It's great, though at times bittersweet to see where we were on issues a decade ago and where we are today.
