A list of puns related to "Brain Abscess"
Hey, wanted to try and reach out and see if anyone on here can relate or share similar experiences. My older sister (28) was rushed to the hospital two weeks ago for what I was originally told to be an OD but actually ended up being a massive brain abscess on her front right side. They did emergency surgery pretty much immediately. Shes had a long history of drug use like meth and heroin which definitely was the cause of the infection. She seems a little better everyday but the aphasia is intense and scary to me as someone whoβs never known anyone to have a traumatic brain injury. I really just want to connect with people whoβve either gone through this or have had a loved one who has.
As per title. This person did something which hurt me badly.
Do you think if we wish people were dead do they actually die?
And how am I supposed to feel about this? To me it feels like an incident I read on the news. Like I feel detached from it.

I had right sided vision loss and a headache. Went to ER on 9/11 and found a brain abscess on my left parietal occipital region. Craniotomy on 9/13 and went home on 9/18. No seizures. But my migraines have been bad. I have had four migraines with aura since Iβve been home. Last night was the worst. It was different and in both eyes and came out out of no where. Just exploded in a second and lost 70% of my vision to an aura. Vision went back to baseline after a couple hours. Neurosurgeon said to go to ER. CT results are linked below. They started my on decadron again (finished when I went home the first time.) Feeling better today. My peripheral vision is still not back 100% from the abscess. Iβm trying to understand the results. I made the mistake of googling and the term encephalomalacia is scaring me. They indicated the increased migraines are from swelling. Didnβt seem too concerned and said to follow up with neurosurgery in a couple weeks. I have some background in neuro and anatomy but if someone could give me and explanation in laymenβs terms Iβd appreciate it.
Hello this is a long one so I would like the best reasonable advice possible thanks!
Long story short about a year and a half ago I broke one of my teeth I never had dental insurance so I managed to scrape by get some money and go get it checked out I have an infected upper tooth on my right side when they numbed it and went to extracted they couldnβt because they couldnβt get the tooth numb so they referred me to a specialist the specialist wanted to charge me a crazy amount of money which I didnβt have at the time fast forward to about five months later Iβm going to receive surgery for a urethral stricture my question and cost for concern here is is it safe for me to go ahead and get my surgery without worrying about my infection in the tooth I took a round of azithromycin about 2 1/2 weeks ago so I just wanted to get some advice Iβve made the mistake of going on Google and reading horror stories of how a tooth abscess spreads and kills you and about facial necrosis and I suffer from severe anxiety so mentally I havenβt been doing good lately Iβm going to resolve this as soon as my surgery is done since I am going to be looking for a good dental plan to be able to resolve my issues but would really appreciate some advice and knowledge from anyone thatβs experienced I also noticed that ever since this too started on my right side of my cheek closer to my nose when I press down itβs firm compared to my left side and it feels like numbing sensation when I press down on my cheek and feel it on my gum
23M here, Iβve scheduled a dentist appointment for April 12th after a decade plus of neglect.
Due to depression, sugar overload, lack of care and laziness my teeth are a candidate for the worst set to be ever seen by a dentist. The entire top row is cracked at the gum line with black and the bottoms of the top row have been slowly eroding and are completely black inside.
They have been like this for nearly 5-7 years and Iβm finally getting them looked at after getting out of my depressive slump.
Now onto my symptoms, Iβve probably had tons of tooth abscesses as Iβve seen them in my mouth plenty over the past years and Iβve never cared about it. Iβm positive I have mastoiditis because for the past 2-3 years Iβve had nonstop bad pains in my left ear and on the bones behind my ears, specifically the left. I have constant sharp jaw and ear pains.
Recently the past 2 weeks Iβve had a severe pain in my left temple and left forehead along with the left bone alongside my forehead. The pain was an extreme tightness ache that wouldnβt go away whatsoever until I took a Tylenol. The extreme pain went away but Iβm still experiencing a slight ache and occasional sharp pains in my left temple, left forehead and the frontal bone or whatever the bone is called that slightly bulges out on each side of the top of the forehead.
Iβm convinced Iβve either got a pretty severe brain abscess or a brain tumor.
I know for a fact that I have to some sort of severe infection after 7 years of horrendously decayed, receding and broken teeth.
I have several AVMs - pulmonary, skin, gastrointestinal, inner nose (nosebleeds). My brain is clear. Iβve had MRIs and CT scans of all of the above. I also have severe anemia.
Last year I had the first three of many PAVMs coiled. The following month, I was in the hospital for emergency brain surgery- removal of a brain abscess in my left frontal lobe. They were able to remove it and, after a few weeks of speech, physical, and occupational therapy - I was out of the hospital after 3 weeks.
My HHT specialist and I are meeting again next week to come up with a plan for my next PAVM coiling - I have ten or so large ones he is still concerned about. I have also have my 2nd iron transfusion scheduled to combat the anemia. (I need these regularly.)
I feel the frustration of having to educate 99% of the Dr.s that I come in contact with about HHT. My blood oxygen level is chronically low and it scares Drs.
I havenβt done any genetic testing and I have no idea who in my immediate family also has this or which parent it came from. My motherβs family members suffered from strokes so Iβm guessing it came from her side.
My list of drs/HHT specialists includes:
More to come. Hopefully less neuro and more general.
I was hospitalized again last week with pneumonia- not sure if itβs at all related.
One other curious fact - Iβve had two major infections requiring surgery. The first was a Staphylococcus MRSA in my right shoulder. The second was the brain infection which was a strain of Streptococcus.
These are likely due to the PAVMs.
I live in NYC and my HHT Center is at New York Presbyterian/ Columbia Drs. nyc HHT center
Iβll keep this updated along the way. Wanted to chime in with my experience, so far.
My name is Johnathan. I'm 31. I work at a semi-fast food place. High scale Mexican restaurant. I live in Florida. I have no insurance, no family with money, and I make about 400 dollars a month.
I have two teeth that were drilled and filled (root canal, I believe) when I was about 17. Over the years, the fillings have fallen away, and despite taking care of my teeth, they have now become infected.
I saved 300 dollars and got an X-Ray done. The dentist told me that to remove them is going to cost a lot of money. I just don't have it. My area has no free dentists. I do not own a car. She told me that they were indeed spreading. She said to have them pulled would be in the thousands, and I've never had that kind of money. I was prescribed antibiotics, twice.Β First was amoxicillin, then clindamycin. It cleared up ONE of the two teeth.
I still have one, the one on the bottom, right side, all the way in the back, that did not clear up. The pain is unreal. I take acetaminophen, ibuprofen, Orajel, coconut oil, and codeine/morphine in the form of poppy seed tea for pain. My body/brain has grown physically addicted. That's not a big deal to me.
The pain, even, isn't a big deal to me.
I fear for my life.
I also take garlic pills as a natural antibiotic. They don't seem to be working. I can feel the infection spreading throughout my neck, jaw, cheeks, and up my temple. I have had a constant headache in my temple area on my right side for about two weeks straight now. The pain does not fluctuate. It does not come in waves, it does not throb. It is constant. 24 hours a day. It never stops.
I can't afford to have it pulled. I don't know if pulling it myself is dangerous to my life.
My current plan is to pull it myself with a legitimate pair of dental forceps I bought, and then take antibiotics, perhaps amoxicillin again. I can get it without a prescription if needed.
I'm miserable. I'm scared. I'm desperate. I don't feel that I deserve this. If anybody can help me, please help me.
Thank you.
-How long can brain abscesses last before burst?
-Can brain abscesses linger unnoticed without causing signs or symptoms?
-Is it possible for brain abscesses to abate w/o medical care and w/o bursting?
-Is it possible to survive a brain abscess burst? If so, what is the usually outcome for the patient?
Any links to the medical literature would be appreciated. Thank you.

I visited an RSPCA vet today after finally convincing my cat Biscuit to stay in the carrying box. At the vet, I described the above details, and besides using a thermometer to tell me he has a slight fever, the vet diagnosed the cat with a brain abscess on the area responsible for walking. He prescribed a two-week course of antibiotics (and didn't suggest how I should give him them) and said if there's no change within a week the cat would be euthanised.
Honestly, the guy was either dumbing stuff down to a ridiculous level or didn't know what he was talking about properly. I'm not a veterinarian, although I am knowledgable in human medicine, and I don't understand how you can diagnose a brain abscess without conducting a CT examination first.
Should I get a second opinion from a different vet, or are CT scans not necessary for cats? Biscuit has survived brutal fights before and recovered perfectly, so it doesn't seem right that he should be euthanised this quickly.
Thank you for your help!
