A list of puns related to "Bison Antiquus"
Found this in the creek today and had to lug it about a 1/2 mile back to my car.
I believe this is the foot and ankle radius and ulna fused together. I found it a few yards from the skull, but didn't go any further as the skull was the hardest part to retrieve, but I will be going back tomorrow. Funny thing is that if I shake it I can hear that it is full of water inside.
By far the most complete fossil skull I've ever found. It is missing 2 teeth on one side and the entire row on the other and the roof of the mouth is even missing where the teeth were. But other than that, definitely a good day for me. Hopefully I can find the jaw to go with it. Now to figure out what I am going to do with it. It's 25 and a half inches from nose to base of the skull...
Edit: Given it's apparent age, judging from the wear on his remaining teeth, a fitting name for a bison who lived to be such an old bull must be Rides on Lightning. Just so happens that out of clear blue skies earlier today we have thunderstorms for the first time in about a month just north of here since about 1am...
Here is my phone shot right after I flipped it over for the first time.
I also found these in very close proximity to the skull, one was resting on the bank about a foot away, the other was on the other side of the creek about 15 ft away, the scapula was quite a ways away down stream and got tumbled pretty badly. There must be 2 Antiquus in this creek though because I found 2 left humerus bones, one was a directly above the skull but the other was down stream a ways and in worse condition.
I am not sure where in the spine that vert goes but its seems on the small size. The other bone there I am not sure but I think its part of the back lower leg-foot joint on the back. The femur is bigger than one I already have and was about 25-30 yards down stream.
The scapula, humerus and radius/ulna fit very tightly together.
This is the spot where I found it. It was just under the wash and a few feet downstream in 2 ft of water and the humerus was on the edge of the bank just to the left of the wash. So I'm kind of gravitating to that as the origin spot as I found nothing up stream from that. But I will be calling UNL's museum tomorrow to see if this is something that they are interested in as it could be a mostly complete skeleton and is only a short distance from a bridge, its actually about a 1/4 mile, just seemed like a half mile with the skull weighing me down.
EDIT: It looks deep and murky but its only 1 ft deep on average with a trough on the far shore that gets 2- 2 1/2 ft deep. Its murky because I just walked all over the area, but it is usually crystal clear.
EDIT Tuesday: Definitely 2 antiquus in the creek, but also a Bison Bison (the femur and vert.) One humerous was from a juvenile Antiquus. The skeleton however is about average in size maybe a bit on the large size but compared to Big Blue (the largest at UNL) it is not that big. This is now property of UNL as they definitely wanted it being that it's associated with more bones and is in such good shape. I will be keeping the skull until it has dried, I dont want to move it any more than necessary while its wet. I will be probably taking some paleontologist to the site in the next few days to see wha
... keep reading on reddit β‘UNL paleontologist George Corner asked me to retrieve the skull since they would not be able to excavate until the next field season. Winter is coming and the last thing we want is a winter of ice on it. I left the vert in place, it looks like a cervical vert now that I cleaned it up a bit to get a look at it. It must be juvenile. 27 1/2 inches from tip to tip. Well within the range for Bison Bison, but with the sutures unfused it is definitely Antiquus. Will deliver to UNL in the morning! :)

edit:Previous post.
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
They were cooked in Greece.
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
Don't you know a good pun is its own reword?
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!
Because she wanted to see the task manager.
Heard they've been doing some shady business.
But thatβs comparing apples to oranges
but then I remembered it was ground this morning.
Edit: Thank you guys for the awards, they're much nicer than the cardboard sleeve I've been using and reassures me that my jokes aren't stale
Edit 2: I have already been made aware that Men In Black 3 has told a version of this joke before. If the joke is not new to you, please enjoy any of the single origin puns in the comments
