Here are my completely accurate Pirates predictions for 2022. Write these down in permanent magic marker:
FIVE UP
- Demonstrating that he is building a different team culture, GMBC begins the season with Oneil Cruz at SS, eschewing NH’s penchant for waiting until the super-2 deadline passes.
- Yoshi Tsutsugo will cream 27 HRs in partial time all over the diamond. He’s the second coming of Garrett Jones.
- Contreras and Yajure win 13 and 15 games respectively with sub-3.25 ERAs and will be known affectionately as Rizzoli & Isles due to their fandom of tough-talking female detective duos.
- Bryan Reynolds has his breakthrough, 1.000+ OPS season and is starting CF for the All-Star game.
- Nick Gonzalez tears it up in Altoona, moves up to Indy and eventually has his cup of coffee in September. He’s our starting 2B in 2023.
FIVE DOWN
- Ke’Bryan Hayes settles into 3B as a solid contributor but performs below the stupidly high expectations following the 2020 season. .750 OPS with outstanding defense.
- Quinn Priester struggles at Altoona.
- Ben Gamel totally shits the bed and is released.
- Mitch Keller gets a case of the yips. The Pirates hire Mackey Sasser to work with him and instead he convinces Keller that he’d be happier in another industry. They open a management consulting firm and Keller goes viral with an outstanding TED Talk on the theme of “second chances.”
- Kevin Neman is better than 2021, but not by much.
So that’s it. We only lose 85 games.

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
