A list of puns related to "Alderman"
Francesβ on Clark has a gigantic patio section that takes up the ENTIRE sidewalk. Now they have an enclosed portion to keep the patio warm and no where did I see any permits indicating it was allowed. This isnβt like a take up a half of the sidewalk deal, they literally built to the edge of the sidewalk and threw down some plastic βrampsβ down into the street because youβre forced into the street. Iβm not in the 43rd, but how does Michele Smith allow this? People are forced into the street to just walk down Clark? Am I just an out of touch old man yelling at clouds? Wtf
edit: InternetArtisan found some pics of social media and posted them below, I should have done that before making the thread. Have a look
edit 2: thereβs now a stop work order posted, the order even calls this a dining room addition, not even a sidewalk cafe. And it also mentions it didnβt even have a permit.
Please include your ward number and alderman name in your response.
My mayor announced yesterday that Chicago will be implementing a vaccine passport starting next month. I can't stand for it. Although a part of me knew this was inevitable, another part was clinging on the hope that Lightfoot would stand by her earlier statements that she won't go that route. Well, she lied.
So I crafted a letter that I just sent to my alderman that I'd like to share with this sub. To my fellow Chicagoans: make yourselves heard. Make the politicians own the policies that will discriminate people. Make them go on record saying they're ok with it. We may not be judging them today, but history will have something different to say later on.
My letter:
Dear alderman,
I am writing this letter, which I hope will not fall upon deaf ears, to voice my concerns over Mayor Lightfootβs announcement over the implementation of a vaccine passport system in Chicago starting January 3rd of next year. I certainly didnβt expect that the βtwo weeks to flatten the curveβ in March 2020 would extend to vaccine passports in January 2022.
When I saw such passports unfold in other major cities such as New York, I was really hoping that Chicago would know better. For months, Mayor Lightfoot has voiced that she will not introduce such policies into Chicago. But the the surprise of no one who has followed her policies since election, she changed her mind.
To quote mayor Lightfoot from her announcement yesterday:
"In fact, this [order] is inconvenient by design."
These are not the words of someone who is authentically passionate about the well-being of the residents of Chicago. These are not the words of someone who wants to unite people together. These are the words of an angry, bitter person who wants revenge because things are not going her way. Why would I trust that a person who would say that has my best interest in mind? Why would I want to have even an ounce of compassion when our supposed leaders speak like this about the people whom they are supposed to represent? Is this really what you think of Chicagoans in city hall?
In fact, I feel duped. In the spring, the mayor, and even the president, were βnegotiatingβ with us: get the shotβthen you can take off the mask and live life normally finally. The vaccines were sold as the solution out (we have over 70% in the city who received a jabβand thatβs not enough?). So I reluctantly agreed to take what many in the mayorβs own party just months earlier critically called the βTrump vaccineβ in sincere hopes

anyone have any I could send back to the office to show what it really looks like?
This is just a feeling I have. He's a veteran (might help with more conservative white voters), hispanic (who resent Lightfoot for perceived indifference to their demands for increased political power/representation) and can't be painted as someone with irrational hatred towards Lightfoot (served as her floor leader until he resigned earlier this year). Saw a while back that he proposed a small scale UBI program for 5000 residents - sounds like something one would propose if you're trying to beef up your "he cares about inequality/poverty" Bina fides.
What do you think?
