β€œThe value of a college education is not the learning of many facts but the training of the mind to think” - Albert Einstein

I think Einstein said it best when it comes to the value of college education. In once sentence, he described higher education's threat to Watchtower.

Jehovah's Witnesses know many of the same facts that so-called "wordly" educated people do. They know there is an evolutionary fossil record out there, though they outright deny evolution. They know much of the science behind how the universe works, how DNA works, etc. This is all information that is available at the push of a button in the modern world. What most Jehovah's Witnesses do not know is how to process this information. How do you connect the dots? What does one thing tell you about another? Does a small seemingly meaningless fact give you a greater enlightenment into a much bigger topic?

When the Governing Body discourages higher education, it is not because they do not want you to learn facts. You already have those readily available. If they didn't want you to learn facts, then they would try to ban the internet completely. What they want is for you to not know how to think. They want to mold your thought patterns, discourage you from thinking differently, and keep you in a state of mental slavery. The best cage is the kind without any physical bars. This is why higher education has been discouraged for decades.

While I do not think that higher education means ultimate financial freedom and even a trade can bring you that sort of freedom, I do believe that the ultimate value is in how it wires your brain to process information. Having the ability to process information critically is the real threat to cults like Watchtower.
