Was the ersatz m10 and the rest of operation grief a war crime? And how often did the Wehrmacht break the Geneva convention?
I’m sure a lot of you are aware of the ersatz m10 but only recently did I find out that operation grief was a war crime and the Germans posing as American soldiers would be shot as spy’s, something which I had no idea warranted execution. However I had heard rumors of removal of the disguise on the panther before combat to avoid the violation. Not sure how credible that is but this brings me to my next question, how often were rules like this broken by the German army? I know of certain things like the orders to execute commandos but overall on the western front the war seemed a lot more conventional unlike the eastern front which probably didn’t have anything like a Red Cross and pow mortality rates were extremely high.
The accused in this trial were high-ranking generals of the German Wehrmacht They were charged with having participated in or planned or facilitated the execution of the numerous war crimes and atrocities committed in countries occupied by German forces during the war.

Was there significant opposition from West Germans/NATO members in letting Wehrmacht leaders re-assume military posts?
TIL French resistance fighters were cowards that joined the winning side and did very bad things as opposed to brave soldiers of the clean wehrmacht which wasn't any more evil than any other army which fought any war

Let's say i'm a common soldier in the German Wehrmacht during the late stages of the war and me plus several other men are completely disillusioned. Would we have any chance to surrender to the Allies? if so how would we go about it?
Obviously i assume you'd have to find a way to desert the army but would you have any opportunity to give yourself up without getting shot at or killed?
Was this a common thing men would risk? or was the commitment to the Nazi regime/fear of it a great deterring factor?

The Wehrmacht had a few American and British volunteers, especially earlier in the War. Would POWs have been significantly aware of this, and were there any attempts made to impersonate one for the purpose of escape?

I'm aware of the nature of the clean-Wehrmacht in Britain and America (so the continuation of propaganda regarding Rommel and the influence of German officers in the American Army's History Department) but I'm wondering how the myth existed in Germany, and if anyone has any good material on the matter.
