A list of puns related to "Wage earner"
Poll:
I was born in Chandler and have lived in Mesa since I was 5. I was in school and living in my childhood home the whole time and now I've graduated and make $19 an hour, but I CANNOT find even a studio here. The only places I was able to afford and apply to are in rough parts of Phoenix. I am a single 24 yr old male and don't fear living in a rough part of town, but I just can't seem to find anywhere affordable.
What is a good hourly wage to support my own self and stay in Mesa? Or, where is the cheapest city in the valley? I'd even consider moving to the west valley. Thanks
Looking to hear any my advice there might be for my MIL who has $50k to her name sitting in cash in savings account. She is 52 and has made bad decisions (financial and non financial) throughout her life. What would be the best steps so she can retire in 13 years and not be a financial burden on her kids?
My MIL has an interesting history to say the least. Twice divorced, domestic abuse victim with a 13 year old, first generation immigrant (refugee), and has tried her hand at all sorts of small businesses over the last 20 years. None of them have worked out due to one reason or another. She basically always feels the grass is greener and does not have the patience to follow through. On top, she is not financially literate.
Her last venture, a hair salon in Vancouver ran for 2 years and seemed promising but got hit by covid and had to shut down. She lived in low income subsidized housing in Vancouver and my husband and his brother (both in their 30s) help her where they can.
She has lived a carefree life, eating out 3-4 times a week, claimed bankruptcy a long time ago, and basically never thinking about her financial future. Drives an old crappy car, made under $20k in each of her last few T4s BUT she has a dream of owning a condo or townhouse. She is also in okay health.
Noticing me (32) and my husbands (34) βrelativeβ success (we earn good salaries and moved from Vancouver to Edmonton 3 years ago so we could be homeowners), she recently moved to Edmonton with her son. Our advise has been to avoid trying to run any more businesses and just do a minimum wage job for the next decade, buy a condo/townhouse, and save as much as possible for retirement.
We do not know much about retirement planning and how much money one should have for health, travel, and any other typical retirement expenses people plan for.
Income and expenses
What should the MIL do from this point onward to be financially secure by retirement age? Should she buy a condo/townhouse so she doesnβt have to rent rest of her life? What should her retirement budget and plan look like?
Iβm a silent reader in this sub for a year now.Iβm curious as to how can i save in a way surviving the inflation just like whats happening in turkey and lebanon. Im 30f and a provider of one parent and one daughter.
Net monthly income around 28k. I have a house in our province but we dont live there. Weβre currently renting an apartment 8k per month inclusive of electricity and water. 100k in tonik, 150k cimb, 26k stocks, all three of us have insurance
Im not earning a lot, not like what i always see in this sub. I know there are many people here that are wiser, maybe you can share some thoughts.
If inflation hits hard here in phil will you still stay and work here? What will you do?or if youβre in my shoes what will you do?
I really would like more suggestions on how high earning workers can support low/medium/minimum wage workers.
Here are things I personally do but I would love more thoughts:
What are other ways to support?
Why are the lowest earners in our province being priced out of housing in our communities?
Who's going to run your hospitals, fast food chains, grocery stores, if no one can afford to live in your area.
Came across this first-person account of life for the aspiring 1%. It seems like even those at the top have limits. One positive take-away from the pandemic is that it is forcing a lot of people to re-evaluate their work-life balance. I think most of us are finding the equation isn't as balanced as we previously thought.

6.2% year over year... The last time this number was this high was 1990.
Yes, retires are in for a BIG bump (2022 Cost of Living Adjustment is 5.9%):
However, as we covered this morning, inflation within the production pipeline is over 20%. This will continue to be passed down to consumers and eat away at this Cost of Living Adjustment, especially when we consider the following figures:
These two measures of rent account for 32% of CPI. Frankly, it is kind of ridiculous.
'Rent of primary residence' (7.6% in the overall CPI), rose by 0.4% in October from September, and by 2.7% year-over-year.
'Ownerβs equivalent rent of residences' (23.6% in the overall CPI) and is IMHO a purposely used flawed tool to track the costs of owning a home since it is based on surveys that ask current homeowners what they think their home might rent for. They can make up any number and this is what they choose to go with. Nonetheless, it is up 3.1% year over year.
However, actual home prices have spiked by 20%, according to the Case-Shiller Home Price Index. Remember, this tracks price changes of the same home over time--making it a measure of house price inflation (blue line below). Notice how βOwnerβs equivalent of rentβ (red line

Now with that said, I do have a problem with a certain aspect of the vaccine passports and that's ultimately who's responsible for enforcement. My girlfriend works at a local diner, and already gets screamed at semi-regularly for asking people to wear masks. She is genuinely scared for vaccine passports. As soon as it was announced, the words that came out of her mouth were "I didn't sign up for this."
She's absolutely correct. It's been shown time and time again that anti-vaxxers can be a bit nuts. There are a lot of them that get aggressive about "muh freedums" to whoever is standing in her way. Now she's expected to check vaccine statuses, and if they don't have a valid documents, she has to turn them away.
AFAIK the government isn't doing anything to address these concerns. At the very least, they should be creating HARSH punishments for anyone who attacks workers (like what we saw at Wonderland) and harsh punishments for anyone not vaccinated that doesn't leave when asked. But as of now, it seems like we're just adding responsibilities to low-wage workers with no compensation. That isn't okay. I don't even necessarily blame the businesses, is every local diner supposed to hire a bouncer at the door to check ID? I have a feeling this whole passport process is going to get messy, and honestly, I'm a bit concerned for my girlfriend's safety.
Edit: What can we do as a group? If someone knows about organizing or has ideas, please share!
As someone who isn't subjected to human indignities at work repeatedly and makes above slave wages, it routinely bothers me to see others suffer.
For some higher earners, this affects their lives and work. Perhaps this seems overly sensitive to some, but it is a fundamental problem. Of course not all employers are to blame. But they are participating in a shared market with shared competition.
Not as a way of punishing, but as a way of raising awareness, how could we cause unrest so that it is known we do not approve and are bothered?
How can we stand in solidarity again, as the working class, regardless of income bracket? If some of us workers have more power, we should make it known what we think and protest the conditions of the market we work within.
Hi all. I am an employee for a private company in the PH and I got a raise last March 2021. Before March 2021, I was earning below P250,000 annually (so was tax exempt) but now, with the raise, I earn just a bit over P250,000 annually. What would be the next steps in this situation? I asked our HR but no response yet, I wanted to ask you guys here on what steps to expect.
I know, I know, why am I asking this just now and not earlier? It's been an overwhelming year, I should've handled this before but I'll try to handle this now. I'd appreciate any advice, please. Thank you po.
The global finance, service, and manufacturing industries have been hit hard by the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020. Frequent quarantines and restrictive exposure measures have devastated most industries that require human contact. Many workers, most of whom are breadwinners, have lost their jobs, who are not well protected by local governments, especially in Southeast Asian countries.
In the Philippines with labor export and tourism as its economic pillars, a large number of unemployed people earned valuable income through Play-to-Earn (P2E) games during the epidemic last year. But as the game gains popularity and the competition grows, players have to deal with such challenges as high investment and low return, reduced revenue, and increased difficulty in gold farming.
Take Axie Infinity as an example, a player needs three NFTs to begin playing the game, which equals 8,000 dollars at the current market price. This is almost an impossible barrier to entry for ordinary players. At the same time, the choice of breeding and gold farming strategies is also crucial for players. This is when an organization is needed to lower the entry fee and guide the subsequent gameplay. Blockchain gaming guilds are born out of this unique opportunity.
>According to the United Nations, βthe worldβs population is expected to increase by two billion people, from 7.7 billion at present to 9.7 billion in 2050, before reaching a peak of nearly 11 billion by the end of the century. Half of global population growth between now and 2050 is expected to come from just nine countries: India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Indonesia, Egypt and the United States of America (in descending order of increase). The population of sub-Saharan Africa is likely to double, while the population of Europe is likely to shrink.β
It is clear that third-world countries are the biggest contributor to population growth, and they are the main targets of P2E, with a huge potential for player growth. Some of these countries have very little disposable income per capita, and the 1β2 dollars gained through two hours of P2E video games is very important to them in real life.
Public data shows that Axie Infinity has 2.5 million DAUs, while guilds YGG, Ready Player DAO, Merit Circle, and GuildFi have 5000, 1800, 1500, and 1500 players respectively. Axie Infinityβs game token, SLP, has been accepted by some merchants and renters in the Philippines. Blockchain game
