Vici Gaming takes it 2-1 against Quincy Crew and will go up against Evil Geniuses straight away for the next series xD. 4 more teams (PSG.LGD, T1, EG, VG) and 3 more games left for the 2nd Major of the Year.

Quincy Crew destroyed Vici Gaming first game with an interesting Venomancer offlane pick but Vici Gaming made some changes for the next 2 games and outlasted the NA powerhouse for the series:

• Banning Venomancer during first ban phase for the 2nd and 3rd game
• Weaver and Crystal Maiden for 2nd game
• Brewmaster support for 3rd game

The amount of space old eleven buys for his team is insane and would be interesting to see how they goes up against Evil Geniuses. Can see Timbersaw being banned for the series as I don't see why they should let through for both old eleven and iceiceice.

For most people, Vici is clearly an underdog given the historical weakness of the Asian counterstrike. The region has also been isolated from the global scene (in particular the sophisticated CS paradigm developed in EU and CIS) for more than a year due to the pandemic.

Nonetheless, some may argue that Asia CS have long been having their own unique paradigm, that used to produce some upsets against much higher-ranked EU teams (e.g. IEM katowice 2019). Another “unpredictable factor” is the addition of Jamyoung to the team. As a young player without previous professional experience, he has quickly risen up to one of the best riflers (if not the best one) in the region with a really mature and clever playstyle typical found in more developed regions.

One thing exciting about LAN events like the IEM Cologne this time is that we will finally be able to evaluate the disparities across regions, especially the less spotlighted ones of NA, AS, and OCE. For some reason, I have a feeling that Vici is either going to be rekt two games in a row like many would predict, or it is going to create some kind of miracle with Jamyoung and Kaze going HUGE.

Vici Gaming Jungler, Leyan, has been fined 3 months salary for abusing a Graves jungle item bug in Solo Queue. He was able to one shot baron, rift herald, dragon, jungle camps etc. in a Solo Queue game, which eventually allowed him to win the game. Obviously, he got reported for his actions.

How to abuse the bug (credits to u/POPCORN_EATER): You have to smite 4 times and recall during your final smite. Then you sell your jungle item while the smite animation is happening.

LPL says that he violated some rules from the rulebook and that he will be banned from the following events in the near future:

1. 2020 LOL All-Star Event
2. 2020 LPL All-Star Weekend
3. 2020 Demacia Cup
4. 2021 LPL Spring Split (First 2 BO3 matches only)

In addition, Vici Gaming is fined 50,000 Yuan (~USD 7,500).

His account is banned from the server (super server 峡谷之巅) for 3 years.

Some of you may remember Leyan as the former IG jungler in 2019. He was quite hyped as a rookie but did not live up to expectations, in my opinion.

Chinese fans seem to think that the punishment is quite lenient (lmao), but I believe western fans would not think the same.
