Originally the Danish ship Nordvest, the Alan A. Dale was a cargo ship sunk off the Netherlands on 23-Dec-1944. The only known ship sunk by a German Biber-type midget submarine (see attached photos) of the K-VerbΓ€nde (small battle units). Ablaze for 3 days before sinking; all 65 hands survived.

Hidden away in one of many sheltered coves of Okinawa is this Japanese midget submarine and torpedo boat base. Anchored in the cove is a Japanese βSea Truckβ, narrowly missed by bombs from attacking carrier plane.

The depot ship HMAS Kuttabul was serving as a floating barracks in Sydney Harbor on the night of the attack by Japanese midget submarines. A torpedo passed beneath the vessel and detonated nearby. Twenty-one men were killed in the explosion. May 1942
