A list of puns related to "Torpedo bulkhead"
"Perhaps you could accompany us?"
Captain Amanda Trent knew that Jennifer couldn't hear the inflection in her voice over the simple digital transmission, but she still used her best diplomatic tone. The Thunder had orders to defend the colony of Avalon. It wasn't under attack yet, so far as anybody knew, but navy intel thought it was a likely target. Cpt. Trent had also been ordered to try to convince the creature, Jennifer, to go with them. Whether command hoped to involve her in the fight, or just get her out of the home system, they didn't say.
"Sure, why not? You guys are the only humans I know, anyway."
Not even a token resistance. Apparently Jennifer was unperturbed about going into a possible warzone with an unknown foe. Given how easily she'd subdued the Thunder perhaps her confidence was justified. Or maybe she had an ulterior motive. Whatever the case, orders were orders, and that was one thing off the list.
"Avalon is 42 lightyears from here. The trip will take three weeks by ripple drive, and if it isn't obvious from the size difference, you can't hitch a ride with us. Will you be able to make your way there?"
"Three weeks to go 42 lightyears is a bit shit, isn't it? I can't hitch with you, but you could hitch with me. We'd be there in moments."
Amanda had seen the way Jennifer moved. Arriving in the solar system through a swirling purple and black portal of some kind. Then using another one to move herself directly behind the Thunder to disable it.
Was she really considering putting the Thunder through an untested type of FTL travel, at the hands of an enormous space squid she'd only met today? Arriving three weeks early could mean the difference between defending the colony and losing it. Refusing Jennifer's offer also wasn't a great way to build trust.
"Very well, that sounds like it will be interesting. Has Lt. Tran explained our coordinate system to you?"
"He has. Heliocentric coordinates. A bit parochial, no?"
"Perhaps, but once people get used to something it is hard to change. Transmitting the coordinates with this message." With a flick of her finger Cpt. Trent committed the Thunder to Jennifer's care.
The main screen showed the gateway swirl into existence. In a moment it grew to be far larger than the ship. Large enough, presumably, to a

TL;DR: carrier sailors miss the last boat back from liberty, and get to experience riding on a destroyer.
EDIT: removed a redundant explanation.
Another edit to fix spelling errors that enraged me eyeballs, and more importantly to thank the generous soul that bestowed silver upon me. And another for the gold, thank kindly!
This happened when our carrier strike group was in port at Da Nang, Vietnam. Aside from the fact that a carrier hadn't been there since '75 and next to none of us had ever been in a communist country before, it was fairly identical to most of our other port visits with the favorable exchange rates, cheap prices, and delicious food. One new thing for me was this was the first time we had nested the ship (when a ship is moored to another ship instead of directly to the pier). It was weird having to cross someone else's ship to get to shore, but at least we weren't anchored out like the carrier and needed to be ferried to shore before we could enjoy time off. It felt like a bit of justice after the less than ideal happenings we blamed on the carrier.
In my experience, one of the biggest points of rivalry among sailors aside from ratings(MOS's) and ship vs. ship, it's big decks vs. small boys. Given their strategic/financial values and the seniority of the officers onboard, it's understandable that the carriers have priority over the destroyers and cruisers for most needs in a strike group, but from the destroyer side of things, it wouldn't hurt to throw us a bone once in a while.
From my friends that were onboard carriers, I learned that there are several amenities onboard that can make being out at sea for months on end more tolerable. Space is at such a premium on a destroyer that recreation options are based largely on if you can fit it securely in a space you own, and it isn't illegal. While most ships follow their own CO's policies, as the leader of the strike group, the carrier has the last say in many circumstances, this lead to our liberty in Korea the previous year being cut short due to foolish actions by carrier sailors(nothing too serious), while our own crew was surprisingly well behaved for small boy sailors.
While carriers can be a tight fit for the +5000 crew onboard, they can largely spend mo

“So what’s so urgent?” Pukey asks as he examines the wall console that suddenly lit up next to him.
“Stupid fucker’s using plasma in the station. Not a banger, but straight up plasma. The Hull in Sector One has a small hole in it now and if not for some backup systems there would be an obscene amount of death. Bitch is going down, and then we found out that there’s a bounty on her head in the Uniru System. If you’re willing to be over the top and make an example out of the bitch we’re willing to help out in capturing her. She’s got a deadly weapon, a paranoid mindset and is a fairly powerful. She’s got a plasma canister launcher and decided to fire it off when having a spat underwater. She flash boiled at least three people and the plasma ate through the hull. But thankfully only about two layers. Still a huge fucking leak but not something that’ll drain the deck.”
“So she’s got a modified plasma launcher that waterproofs the stuff?”
“Think impact grenade launcher with a plasma payload. There are a lot of ways water messes with conventional weapons and she found a way around them. It shoots little torpedoes that make a big boom on impact.” Hoagie clarifies before the image of him moves to the side to show an Aka woman with clear eel like traits.
“Is she more like a moray or electrical?”
“Electrical. We have a survivor in the form of a Hydro Nagasha but she’s going to be going into a healing coma or living with some truly nasty scars. She was speaking with our target but wasn’t in any shape to say anything.”
“Okay, what’s the name of our next payday?”
“She’s going by Aqua A. Aquatos at the moment, her real name is Mellissa Glaze. She came in on bulk transport and kept her head down before blowing her stack and blowing a hole in the hull. It’s looking like some kind of deal gone bad, but Mellissa is still in Deck One and I’ve been watching the ways in and out.”
“Good, inform me if she moves to another deck. We’ll take her down, quick, calm and without collateral.”
“Thank you. Don’t worry about keeping it quiet though, in fact I insist you make it loud. Stupid should not only hurt but have examples made out of it. This way people learn.” Hoagie says and Pukey nods.

‘Shit shit shit!’ Makkar swore in his head.
“Patrol interceptors? Can you confirm?” He requested his sensor officer to repeat.
“Yes sir, from the scouting element of Lightning squadron. Four Shil’vati nova class patrol interceptors on an intercept course with Lightning-3,4 and 5,” the Sensors officer replied, keeping her face straight as she gave the report. “Another wing is approaching Lightning 1 and 2. Orders sir?”
“Well the Shil’s have just seen most of a wing of fighters, ones that we can’t have agreeing to a stop and search. Well then,” he sighed. “It seems we’re going to be throwing hands!”
A light flashed on one of the consoles of the sensor management area on the bridge.
“Purple bandits have launched missiles! Lightning breakaway squadron is in combat,” An officer reported.
“Tell the squadron to engage, Weapons free.”
Makkar stood up from his central command chair, plucking a visored headset from its slot in the chair’s side table. Slipping it onto his head, he tapped the side and spoke sternly.
“Attention, Red alert. all personnel standby at battle stations.”
At his words the light played across his visor as the Heads Up Display came online.

It carried a 2" gun and a pair of torpedo tubes on deck and, just like the 2500-tonner cruisers, was constructed with "Many" bulkheads. HMS Harvey was launched in July and joined the torpedo boat squadron heading to the German coast as part of a large assault force of Battleships along with Armored and Light Cruisers. The day of action saw the weather conditions deteriorate severely; visibility was nil and the light elements of the raid were forced forward to attempt to spot for the heavy elements of the fleet. The action saw the torpedo boat squadrons skirmishing with German TBs at close range in a confusing maelstrom and in the confusion, HMS Harvey was hit with a kraut torpedo; knocking out two engines and the rudder. HMS Harvey was detached from the squadron and told to retire from action to the East. As poor Harvey steamed eastward, her crew worked really hard and got the water pumped from the hull and got one engine and the rudder operating again. HMS Harvey was nearly clear from the action when she stumbled onto a partially disabled German TB. Both fired torpedoes and both hit, the German TB sank and the fleet commander gave HMS Harvey a sad salute and turned his attention back to the battle... After the battle, as the commander was reassembling his fleet when who should come steaming back into the fold through the gloom but HMS Harvey! Hull dry again with her engines operating again!

Okay, seriously, I just want an explanation or justification for this. This 200-tonner literally, MEASURABLY ate more total damage than any of my Light Cruisers could have taken. My 2500 ton CLs take MORE relative damage from a torpedo hit than a 200-ton TB; same warhead, same bulkhead rating, LESS damage. Just want to hear a justification for why this works this way.
Another longer-than-usual chapter. oh hey are those...spaceships? in my story about space ships? who would have thought.

June 29th 2024, Metrian system, Shil’vati/Consortium disputed territory.
Hissing filled the airlock as the drop ship connected to the hull of the patrol frigate. Flicker shifted the grip of her rifle in her hands, she didn’t like being on multiple ops one after the other, but at least this one was going to be short.
“And up we go, Missy,” she heard Sparks say as he and Ace hefted their prisoner through the starboard access door behind their Free Navy dignitary.
Their 7 foot captive, the largest humanoid in the craft, groaned through the burlap sack over her head as she was dragged through the port. A small touch suggested by some rando working on the fighter docks and readily accepted.
Flicker followed Rook through the aperture, grimacing when she felt the polymer of the docking umbilical give slightly underfoot. This wasn't a sleek metal hull she’d spent many years in, it was a thin sheet of translucent plastic. That yielding material was all that kept her from the cold sucking embrace of the void. She tried not to think about it. Flicker slammed her fist into the cobalt blue of her chest plate, shocking her back into focus. It was nothing more than a placebo but it did the job.
Shadow enveloped the tube past the final four metres to the black hulled frigate they were boarding. Just black. Nothing like the sheer abyss of the Enterprise’s hull plating. A hundred odd metres further down the ship she could see the metallic grey, blue and white of one of the Enterprise's cargo lighters with the Terran free navy banner emblazoned on its side.
She had to stop herself from gasping in surprise as she entered the gloom of the frigate's shadow. She could still see armour for once. Well, sh

I am not space rich but wouldn't mind suggestions to work towards. Preferably no lobi but if you think it would absolutely make a difference in the build I will consider it. I am mostly playing solo / pug so focusing on more DPS over tanking. Most of my rep is in the tier 2 range but I've been making good progress over the past few weeks. I don't have the competitive engines yet but went ahead and included them as I plan to use them once I unlock tier 3. Currently I'm using the disco 3 piece.
Also working towards picking up the Endeavor for the Super Charged Weapons trait and unlocking my 6th starship trait slot.
I feel pretty tanky and don't use RSP III very often. Was considering dropping it for something else but not sure what to change to or if I should keep it for emergencies.

“Launch boarding torpedoes. Thrusters up 20% get us alongside that landing ship. I want it shattered. Ricky can you hear me? How many troops do we have left?” I ask not waiting on his reply as he dashes through the open portal on the bridge.
We’d been in active combat covering the Laskian expiditianry’s fleets retreat. I felt it the moment we left jump space, the ships would not fall to conventional weapons. So here I stood on my bridge steadily feeding my power into the ship giving our weapons power and destructive ability beyond anything they’d normally field.
“Captain, message from the fleet.” my com’s officer reports
“Play it.” I order.
“This is Admiral Jakobson to Will of Reis. we’re jumping. Get yourself to safe we need you alive.” the Admiral says before his own battleship limps out of the gravity zone and vanishes into jump space.
I give a sigh. This was a lucky battle. The enemy’s weapons were so weak that it was clear how they were winning each battle. If they ignored conventional weapons then there was no need for them to fear us, they could just whittle ships down, board them and take out their crews feeding on the soulfire they gained through slaughter. Fortunately we had soulfire to spare. I could feel my reserves flowing through the ship pulsing with strength and power even as power flowed from Reiss down to me and from my men up towards her.
“Are there any survivors out there?” I ask
“There’s one ship showing a distress beacon still. No idea of lifesigns.” ops reports.
“Give the retreat order, get everyone back to safety and destroy the portals, start moving towards that ship.” I order.
“Ma’am.” Ricky says returning from the throne world. “The men are tired but they’ve still got some fight in them,” he says.
The ship shudders as several of the enemy vessels fire upon us. The Will slices into their hulls and the ships retreat, bleeding atmosphere and dark bodies.
“Ricky the ship is yours. I'm going to board the Laskian destroyer and recover who we can.” I tell him as a torpedo streaks out to impact the stricken vessel.

I had a realization this morning that if this ship was to be so reputed that a few fringers on the Edge of the Empire would know its name out of thousands then...it would probably be best if it had a reputation. Finding surprisingly little support for this on google, I thought I'd reach out to this community to see what we can come up with.
For clarification I am looking to create a d100 table of impossible things a starship is reputed to have done. Stuff like "its the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs," but in the interest of making this usable to the broadest audience lets not make it too specific to star wars. Also, some of these (especially the ones I listed below) are more the pilot's legend than the ship, and I like that. I like the feeling of: "wait a minute, wasn't that more the pilot than the ship" kind of ambiguity. Also feel free to go out of the realm of possible. Again, these are legends about a starship. Like your dad's fishing story, it gets bigger each time its told.
Edit: wow I am getting some awesome material. Even my wife has caught on and is feeding me stuff through Facebook. I am doing my best to keep up, once we hit 100 I think I'll go through the whole list and tweak 'em just a little so they all have the same tenses and stuff, but keep 'em coming folks!

The ship allegedly traveled to a realm of space-time that supposedly doesn't exist.
The ship once outran a specific ship, or specific class of ship that is supposedly the fastest in the galaxy.
The ship traveled to an allegedly unreachable region of space, and came back!
The ship was the flagship (either intentionally or by circumstance) in a major battle.
The starship is the only one to survive the destruction of an entire world, space station or fleet.
The starship allegedly knows the location of a lost or hidden treasure (saved in its navicomputer).
The starship ran a uniquely dense blockade.
The starship carried supplies to a beleaguered force and ended up breaking a siege that

The newly christened SS Will-Of-Reiss was performing well. After a brief stop at a hub we’d taken on a bunch of new contracts and dumped the scientist off despite her insistence that she stay to study our power.
Three pirate ships had fallen to the crew without anything more than a few minor injuries quickly healed by feeding the injured soulfire. The engineering team had asked for a chance to construct a modified torpedo, it would fire off impact a disabled ship or if the chance arose fly in through a hanger bay or open hole in the ships armour, before exploding out into a spherical frame engraved with runes.
Today was the first test of the new boarding weapon.

A stained oak analog clock she'd gotten him for their thirtieth anniversary hung on the bulkhead next to her. He checked the time aboard Rosetta Station before his eyes fell to the nearly empty bottle of Kentucky whiskey on a table under the mirror.
"0654," he muttered, biting his lower lip. "Screw it. Got time for one more."
He poured a generous amount in the glass he'd used the night before and downed it. A chime sounded from the overhead intercom before a soft female voice spoke.
"Ensign Ryan is here, Commander."
"Open," Sabbat said, grimacing as the liquor burned his throat.
Sabbat set the glass back down and finished buttoning his blue uniform as the hatch whisked open. The mirror reverted to an image of Earth from afar as he turned to see his immaculately dressed aide.
"Ensign Ryan." Sabbat nodded.
"Good morning, Commander Sabbat." The officer smiled.
"Is it?" Sabbat could tell the smile was forced.
"It could always be worse, sir."
"Wait till you get to be sixty, son. Everything is worse."
The ensign's smile faltered as Commander Sabbat waved him out into the corridor. Four uniformed officers passed as they exited, giving a half salute to Sabbat that he didn't return.
"So, what's on the schedule today?" Sabbat asked. His aide pulled up the tablet and began tapping.
"Thom, Sara and June are still waiting approval for their leave to Earth. Doctor Lang wants to speak with you. Supplies are still disappearing." Ensign Ryan paused, "She thinks you're avoiding her, sir."
Hurst, Sabbat thought, that jackass.
"That's because I am." He looked to Ryan with a half smile. "We'll see her after breakfast. Remind me to get in touch with the admiral after we talk to her. What else?"
"Yes, sir. " Ryan said, "We still need to re-assign someone to help Aggy set up the new hydroponic lab. She's bothering me during-"
"Aggy, eh? She doesn't seem to be bothering you that much, Ensign Ryan." Sabbat beamed a wise smile. His grinned dropped as, to his shock, his aide continued on without even the slightest blush.
"I'm meeting with Corbin later this afternoon about ordering replacement panels for the ones damaged last week. It's a pretty big mess, sir. We've had to seal up and shut down several compartments to conserve power for now." Ryan shook his head, "I'm handling it, sir."

We're overtaking the trailing ship and my ship B (center of the formation) fires his bow-torpedo at a range of about 800 yards, just to force him to maneuver. OPFOR CL turns medium to starboard giving my ship C (starboard of the formation) his shot at about 6-700 yards, firing his bow-torpedo. OPFOR turns full-over to port, landing him 400-yards, broadside-on to ship A on the port-side of the formation. I pull a Darth-Vader, "I have you now" in my head and ship A fires his torpedo. Now, get this, OPFOR goes from full-bang left rudder to full-bang right rudder INSTANTLY and reverses course just about 180-degrees inside of his own length.
...and fires a torpedo at ship C... which hits.
Now, this raises a few questions in my mind.#1) How in the fuck, with 1890s steam rudder technology did the crew react so quickly to reverse the direction of turn?! I mean, it really was instantaneous (or nearly so, based on what the stern-wake was doing)
#2) How in the flaming fuck, did this 2500-tonner going at 15-17 knots (1890s tech once again, including poor hull form and everything) reverse his course in less than his hull length? Once again, based on the line cut by the stern-wake. And...
#3) How in the French-Fried Flaming Fuck was that torpedo-room crew not only not picking themselves up off the deck after being hurled into the port-bulkhead but still had the wherewithal to lay and fire that torpedo with unerringly perfect accuracy when the gun-crews were in so much distress that they had ceased fire during the violence of the maneuver.

When we were hit, a ship’s seaman, a middle-aged man named Seaman, went below to look for the kittens. But of course, they had hidden themselves out of panic, and he couldn’t find them. They were our only casualties.
Third Mate Johnson, before going to the lifeboat, looked for Capt. Jensen. He found him wandering a little dazedly on a wing of the bridge. He said, “Come on, Captain, let’s go.” getting down to the lifeboat, the Skipper did go into the water but was pulled out quickly.
As we passed the stern, the bow was under the water and the stern was completely out of the water.
A couple more members of the crew had gone into the water. We rowed to them and pulled them into the boat. Immersed in 29 F water, they had been kept afloat only by the buoyancy of their life jackets and were completely unable to help themselves. We covered them with whatever was available. One ship’s crew member was wearing he

So I'm going to go ahead and say this.
In both the UK/GR games Prior to 1930 I think I lost literally 1-3 ships per game while sinking basically the entire enemy fleet on the hardest difficulty.
So I would like to know everyone's design philosophy.
So me?
_____________
#1: I only built 2-3 Battleships. (more on that in a moment)
Once you got them This switched to 2 Battleship and 1-2 Battlecruisers.
#2: I built a lot of Torpedo armed light gun armed light cruisers to handle enemy Cruiser/Destroyers. They were not great at it but they where cheap and effective defending transports and projecting long range.
#:3: I didn't build any DD/CH before 1910. After 1910 DD's became a bit part of my fleet and I added 3-4 Heavy Cruiser.
#5: By battleships/Battlecruisers basically sunk the entire enemy fleet.
Once I got them my battlecruisers did most the killing.
_
BB/BC design philosophy.
#1: I went expensive.
#2: They where always a good bit faster then the enemy, to the extent that I often ended up in fights were my BB/BC was around the same speed (Some times faster) Then the enemy Destroyers. This is not rally a indication of super fast capital ships, just that the AI dosen't tend to build fast ships. Even in 1910-1920 I was running into BB's that could only go 17-20knts. And Cruisers that were in the 22 range.
In 1980 I was building Battleships that were running at 26knts. By 1920 I was making 32knt ships.
#3: My main guns tended to be small 10-11 Inches in early games. 12-13 later.
#4: I tended to smaller faster firing secondary's, generally picking the smallest gun with the range I wanted. (A lot of 2 and 4 inch guns)
#5: I always had Torpedoes'. The Largest available set to Fast.
#6: I always went for very well protected ships, but pretty standard ARMOR, with a little bit of splinter protection everywhere. Bulkheads, flooding control, Many Compartments.
#7: I never fit Torpedo Protection.
Tactics: The Tactics are easy, if it is a Lighter Heavy or lighter has Torps keep it at range and kill it with your guns on HE, the Secondary's would eat DD's/CL's. The CH's would lose fire control quickly to HE secondairers and then I would switch to AP with my Main guns.
Against Capital Ships, I would

More of them, fewer of us
We arrived in Chester, PA, on February 2, 1942. While I herded my crew through the paperwork trail of Com4 (FOURTH Naval District), the Sun Oil shipyard in Marcus Hook, and onto the Texas Sun, Lolette went house hunting in Chester.
Chester was a merchant marine town, and at the time to them the Navy was an outfit from somewhere else. They could recognize an enlisted sailor suit, but not an officer’s uniform. Once, when I bought tickets at a movie house that offered lower prices to servicemen, I was asked what branch of the service I was in.
So, when she inquired at rooming houses about rentals, and said she was a Navy officer’s wife, she was met with some skepticism. One rooming house lady told her, “when you show up with your husband and your baggage, we’ll discuss it”. She got half a block down the street before the implication hit her. She didn’t go back there!
Chester is serval miles southwest of Philadelphia, on the bank of the Delaware River. Sun (Oil Co.) Station where the Texas Sun was berthed, is at Marcus Hook, a few miles farther down the river.
We reported aboard and were settled in. I had a cabin in the officer’s quarters in the midships deckhouse, on the main deck. This is the standard arrangement on merchant ships. The gun crew was given quarters in the ship’s crew space.
The Master of the Texas Sun was Capt. Olson, one of the Sun Oil Co.’s most senior and highly respected ship captains.
During World War I and into the early 1920’s, the United States built a large numbe

Fleet Admiral Joachim Moser was speaking with United Nations Secretary-General Fu Li Wei about the state of the war.
"I've read the files and seen the classified vids, I know how powerful our enemy is. You're preaching to the choir, Admiral. I'm just trying to make sure you're aware of how serious the political situation is becoming. Resting on our laurels while our civilization burns is making me lose support, quickly." the Secretary-General said.
Moser rubbed the bridge of his nose, sighing. He'd been about to lash out angrily, but he'd held his tongue. In truth, he had nothing but respect for the Secretary-General. The man had backed him up at every turn, and had effectively ended any chance he'd had of reelection by doing it. He was willing to sacrifice his career, and even his integrity to protect humanity. Moser was sure that the Secretary was losing just as much sleep about the millions they'd left to die as he was. In a war for the survival of the entire species, such measures are an ugly necessity.
"I'm aware of that, Secretary-General, but you know as well as I do that we have no safe way to hit them, not yet."
It was true. Asymmetric warfare against the Ivos was next to impossible. The Ivo fleet had no logistical profile. Their fleet stopped to 'rest' after exterminating a human colony. Emergency communication probes sent out from several of the colonies that had been annihilated brought back footage of the Ivo fleet gathering around the system's star, with their assault carriers extending massive solar panels, presumably to gather the energy necessary to generate anti-matter on the spot. It was possible they were even fabricating new munitions with the system's resources. It was speculated that this was the reason no one had ever spotted a single Ivo resupply fleet. There were no supply lines to be cut, no soft targets to be hit. The Ivos had even stopped sending out frigates for recon after they'd lost the first few to human cruiser wolfpacks. They were well aware of their advantages, it seemed, and they had no intention of leaving ways for the humans to circumvent those advantages.
"The Ivo fleet's point defenses have a far greater range than our own, and that means that their defen

So, today I suffered a massive defeat at the hands of the English. I was playing as Germany and it was 1941 and me and Italy were at war with England. The size of England and my navy are roughly the same, except I have 4 CVs and 7 CVLs while England has 3 CVs and 3 CVLs. I also have an extra BC. However, from the intel I have, the English CVs have about 10 more aircraft than mine.
I got a coastal bombardment mission near the Thames estuary. I had pretty much my entire fleet there, so I expected English to have similar forces. I thought it was best to use aircraft to bombard the target and not risk my forces.
The battle started well, got some bombardment missions on the target and lots of spots for the English Navy. Dispatched torpedo bombers and escorts towards their estimated positions.
I struck the first blow and torpedoed an unsighted ship. But pretty soon the English aircraft showed up and began dive bombing my carriers. Two burst into flames but fortunately we were able to beat back the attack. Not wanting to stay any longer, I decided to gradually withdraw towards friendly land air cover.
Then disaster struck. One of the carriers suffered an explosion and two of my BBs and a CA was hit by torpedoes from English planes. So by now we were in full flight mode. I had dispatched one last air strike before but it had not yielded good results. Only two torpedo hits were obtained.
Half the time had passed and my first casualty was the CV that had caught fire and exploded earlier. It was a converted 21000 ton BC converted into a carrier. Some time later I was north of Holland when another CVL succumbed to fire and was lost. Finally just off Emden my 35,000 ton BB suffered a bulkhead rupture and sank too.
In all this battle gave the enemy about 12,000 VPs. Absolutely devastating to the war effort I imagine. I am was building 2 more BBs and 2 large CVs, but they are still atleast 8 months away. Let's pray I can recover from this loss.
I would love to hear about your losses and setbacks. The bigger you write the better, I love reading these stories :) Thank you !
There was more to the British decision to adopt a vertical belt than just the threat of diving shell, although I would say it was a factor. I've "drawn" some examples below. This is about the peak of my artistic abilities...
Disclaimer - This is written from the perspective of the Royal Navy. Other nations may have viewed things different and/or worked out alternative solutions that got around the stated disadvantages.
Example 1 shows that shells could potentially pass under an inclined belt and reach the vital's of a ship. The exact same size belt mounted externally would increase the "umbrella" effect of the armour, and as you can see, would potentially stop such shells.
Example 2 demonstrates the same effect, but the inclined belt is extended to be the same vertical height as the external belt.
Example 3 shows how by adding a lower belt you can overcome this and protect against more diving shells (if you trust a thin strip of armour to do so).
Example 4 shows the effect of adding the lower belt's weight to the main external belt. It does not go as deep, but the "umbrella" effect means it gives nearly as good protection. It is also thicker, and keeps the shell burst outside of the hull.
Example 5 shows one concern of an inclined belt - that a shell that hits the armour would be deflected downward and explode in the bulge compartments. This was not thought to endanger the ship directly - the torpedo bulkhead was expected to contain any fragments - but it would cause flooding, inducing a list, slowing the ship etc.
Example 6 shows another concern of an inclined lower belt - that a torpedo hit could turn this armour (and its framing) into heavy projectiles that penetrate the torpedo bulkhead. Something similar happened in the Second World War to HMS Indomitable, where fragments of her lower belt armour were blasted into the ship.
Finally, there is a table of the perceived relative advantages and disadvantages of an inclined armour belt. The advantage is obvious - more protection for the same weight of armour, or less weight for the same level of protection. In 1933 this was noted as allowing a 1" reduction in armour thickness. Significant by their absense are advantages regarding venting torpedo explosions and against diving shell, which feature in 1920s discussions and designs. Quite a big deal seems to have been made about outboard venting in this arrangement in the 1920s, but experiments in the early 1930s suggested that

I am overdue by this one. But I had kebab a lot last new year's eve and I am now trying to draw with no experience from scratch. Plus I needed to catch up with my own projects like a potential campaign for PMMM! That, and playing a lot of 4X galactic games and multiplayer isn't kind on one's time budget.
But anyway! I am back! And here's another 5519 word chapter to sate your hunger from my adventures so far. I've had time to get in contact with someone who beta-reads. However, as of this moment they aren't available. so you have to deal with what i could put together for now. Still, between my new proofreading friends and my newfound interest in drawing on a phone. maybe you will get to see some fan-art of myself as Norfolk (Alsace and Facade dropped/transformed vers). as... bad as they might be?
And before you ask, I am well aware of these KMS shipboys and all these hyper-weapon-revolutions that are sometimes asked if they could have turned things around for germany in such a late stage. Sometimes it can be quite goat-laugh inducing. I mean. all APC shells tend to have HE filler. so the fact that H44 has a APHE shell is... logic engine error? Why not use RAPs and highly durable High Hardness steel armor of the 1970s that solved the fragility problem during WW2 with a softer basic plate?
And yes. I don't use RNG dices around here. It would be just too unpredictable. Instead, If Black Shift DOES happen (My partner is making a resolution to try and stick around this time) It will probably be more like Narrative RP where the situation. creativity with our abilities and careful planning, or simply abusing magical abilities to the extreme (Repurposing Axel Shooter or Madoka's homing arrow to target hypersonic SR-72 aircraft. weaponizing barriers as blunt energy hammers. rewriting shipgirl consciousnesses to force them to be loyal, Jump Pointing and Jump point Tunneling through walls. My partner has expressed an interest in using Yukari yakumo's powerset due to their background) will be more than enough. that is... Until Azur lane starts tampering with bizarre. barely predictable stuff.

Part 1: The Struggle
May 6th, 2277 UN Space Force Outpost Caloocan
Senior Astronaut Alice Santos stared blankly at her scopes, as she had for the past two hours. It wasn't that different from usual. Her scopes never showed anything other than the occasional nitrogen tanker heading for the fuel station, which helped remind her that she was still alive. She would usually be passing the time with some idle chatting with the other people in the CIC, but she wasn't in a very talkative mood today.
De Vries had broken things off with her yesterday, and everyone knew it. It didn't help that he was on the same shift as her. Alice had always thought the saying "Don't shit where you eat." was silly, but now she understood. The whole CIC was awkward as hell, with everyone walking on eggshells around the two.
It hurt worse than it should have because Alice couldn't be mad at him. He was pretty objectively in the right, as far as these things go. She was a shitty girlfriend. Her old man had left her a basket case, and she had unloaded all of her baggage on De Vries. She had driven him away because of her crippling trust issues. She wanted to blame him, but she couldn't.
A small voice in the back of her mind reminded her that she probably wouldn't have tolerated the same behavior out of him, and certainly not as long as he had tolerated it out of her. So, she was stuck stewing in her own self-hatred, unable to blame De Vries even though she desperately wanted to. There was also a little guilt thrown in, for ruining everyone else's day because of her own personal bullshit.
There was one man who wouldn't let his day be ruined by Alice's foul mood. Lieutenant Commander Ahn strolled happily into the CIC. His wife had popped out their twins early, and the Commander had been devastated that he couldn't be there. However, he was going on leave in a few days, and the prospect of getting home to them had pulled him out of the doldrums.
"Anything interesting?" he asked, despite knowing full well that nothing interesting happened at Caloocan.
There were a few smirks at his joke, but otherwise no one said much. There really was nothing interesting to be found at Caloocan. The star system that the outpost was in was pretty barren, even by the notably low standards of red dwarf systems. It's only significant celestial body was an ice giant, which happened to have a healthy quantity o

The Interstellar Freighter limped towards final docking at the star port.
It was quite severely damaged, in a 'physical manner'. As far as interstellar ship damages go, this was quite unusual.
It looked as if some gigantic chain had wrapped around its hull, and... squeezed. The hull was crumpled in quite a distinct way, and the overall keel-line of the ship was bent. As the ship limped and struggled with sporadic and clumsy thruster fire into its docking clamps, the crowds were already gathering in the airlock terminal. Announcements were spreading throughout the port, and the celebration lights and fireworks were being prepared.
The Captain and crew were not concerned about the hull damage. In fact, they were about to have celebrity status when they got onto the station. The damage would NOT be repaired, in fact. The cost to adjust the thrusters and restore field harmonics to just make it fly crumpled would be happily funded. The cargobay door and bay inside that was crushed would remain as-is, converted to a tourist venue, a techno- cult shrine, or something.
The ship and crew themselves were looking forward to a long and bright future. For they bore with pride the Mark of the Seeker. The crew was now inseparable after this experience, and were going to get lucrative high value shipping contracts, would never have a crew hiring shortage, and the hulls decommission date was extended indefinitely. No expense would be spared to keep it operational.
Having the Mark was a big deal. Almost a religious experience now, among the starfaring community. For it had endured the attentions of a Seeker- and was proven 'worthy of inattention'. As a result, it was now forever immune and safe from any further Seeker interactions. Some high value/priority shippers found great value in such a guarantee. It was not a good place to be- under the Seekers' remotest suspicion.
The Seeker was the name the Galactic community had given to some ancient robotic machine with an admittedly Rogue AI, endlessly searching for its long lost creator/owner/operator. It is one of many copies- or networked whole, it remains unclear- of a titanic stony spheroid of heavy armor, about .5 human kilometers in diameter, with approximately 37 enormous Human Bicycle-style chains -where each link is the size of a common shipping container- and each hinge has powerful m

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

"Translation..." the scraping of metallic vocal cords was broken with fractured puffs of feeble air from its compressor etrenched where its belly used to be. The electric thrum of static indicated the servitor's processor was hard at work. The voice it produced was a fabrication and no more, the lobotomized vessels mouth lay open with slack jaw and eyes vacant as the cable that jutted into the back of the connection unit jolted as it scanned the vast archives of sacred knowledge. He shuddered as he made brief eye contact. The whites of its eyes matching clouded cataracts that looked around but saw nothing. The eyes themselves could have rolled back into its sockets decades ago and he'd be none the wiser. This one was a translator, a conduit for a thousand languages and thousands more long dead. The thick cable, slick with lubricating oil was loose on the back of its spine, the rest was a limp torso jutting out of the wall with swaying arms. Whatever remained within was the most critical to survival; the rest undoubtedly sold a galaxy away by the looks of sloppily stitched scars that still looked raw. He knew better than to wonder if its lower half still existed, enshrined and undoubtedly withered to sinew and bone. He offered thanks to the Emperor that steel wall panels that composed the corridors entire length, miles long obscured its view. The cable clicking and popping with electrical energy, requiring a full reattachment. He considered calling a Tech Adept, eyeing down the poor excuse for life that dribbled before him but steadied his resolve. Time was short and personal sacrifice was required. He reached forward; the metal of his artifical hand and the heavy cable clinking like cups of hyper-alcohol celebrating some inane success. A sharp shunt re-inserted it. Some life, if you could call it that, returned with a crank of neck muscles which electrically twitched and cramped with each contraction. He recoiled away lest skin contact occur. He had some time to spare as the servitor waded through legion of binary sequences and layers of digital vaults in search of its prize. He would rather gaze upon heretic scripture than that creature any longer so he chose the blank, never-ending corridor to gaze down. Miles upon miles of underground passageways that if he could see through the darkness, he would see the curvature of Terra itself. Since I don't plan to attack any more ships on the mission I decide to just for fun seal off the compartment instead of fixing leaks. After I gave the evacuation order and closed the bulkhead the normal sailor crew continues to automatically work on the leaks. I made sure to don't give the officers any spare parts. The sailors only leave the compartment when they are about to die, flooding the other compartments and becoming unconscious on the way. Even way after everyone finally left the compartment another sailor goes in there for no reason, floods the other compartments, becomes unconscious and needs to be rescued. This happens everytime I do any damage control and makes it pretty much impossible to do that.
The crew of the Hare March were taking turns soaking in the daylight from the top deck as the submarine drew lazy wakes behind it.
They were halfway through the patrol schedule and had surfaced to replenish the air tanks. On the deck of the sail, Captain Angola watched with a soft smile as the crew rotated through the sundeck, an organised line of disciplined, whitefurred buns.
Behind him, the lookout slapped his foot against the deck in the alarm pattern, binoculars still held firmly against his eyes. “Incoming aircraft!” He shouted.
The klaxon immediately rang out, a low frequency pattern that reverbed through the hull more than sounded in the air.
The deck immediately cleared and Angola lined his own binoculars up with the sightline of the lookout. The aircraft silhouette broke through the clouds that lined the horizon.
“Spotter.” He murmured to himself. “Prepare to dive!” He shouted down the hatch as he gestured for the enlisted bunny to climb down ahead of him.
“Captain on deck.” Cinnabun, the first mate and navigator of the Hare March sounded off as Angola entered the bridge. No one reacted, emergencies held priority over form under Angola’s command and the crew knew it.
“Periscope depth.” He ordered.
The helmsbun replied with a firm: “Periscope depth, aye.” as the March’s ballast tanks slowly filled with water, dragging her under the surface.
“Thoughts, Captain?” Cinnabun was, despite his young age, an exceptionally skilled navigator and his grasp on the crew was impeccable. But the lack of experience was what kept him from a commission of his own.
Angola was hellbent on teaching the bunny everything he knew, before his own time came.
“Spotter aircraft, that means there is someone out there looking for something.” He said, while rotating the periscope to view the full horizon. “Let’s hope that something isn’t us.”
“Sir?” The sonar operator chimed in.
“Yes, Mr. fluffles?” Angola replied, not taking his eyes off the horizon.
“I have two echoes on the passive sonar, one north, heading 323 and one southeast, heading 102.”
“Hm, distance and estimated classes?”
“North is 1800 meters and medium sized, possibly a fox class. Southeast is three clicks out, too far for estimation.”
“Sir.” Cinnabun used his speculative tone. “If that is another fox, then we’re getting pinched on our current heading.”
“Right you are, First officer. Helm: Heading 262, maximum depth for periscope, twelve knots.”
“262 at fifteen meters, twelve knots, a

I have some lockbox ships from years back, and a few that I have recently acquired;
I also have some of the older event ships, though as I have come to understand they are seen as relatively inferior to lockbox ships.
I list my ships so I can get some advice on where to go, I had help building my Borg Juggernaut, though have seemed to get bored of that ship and currently I am flying the Discovery refit (Just finally finished Discovery, and the ship really grew on me) but the problem is the build is incomplete and not very good. So if possible I'd love some assistance. (I can use a headset on Xbox if easier but the comments here work too)
I remember the Vonph being a pretty potent ship when having the set, which is why I am intrigued, but I am not so sure on how these ships stack up in todays game environment.
If the discovery refit is a good ship, even on a tactical captain, then I'd love to continue using her, I'll post my current "build" specifics below -

After about 3 Years of playing STO, I finished my first build these days. The Goal was to achieve a more or less lore accurate Vengeance (Kelvin Timeline Vengeance-class Intel Dreadnought Cruiser) that runs the weapons from the movie as well as all 4 Kelvin Consoles. While the main goal of this ship is just to look nice and feel like the movie Vengeance, I feel like there is some potential for more Damage Output and all in all just room fore more optimization, I've never posted here before, so I don't really have any Idea which Info is important, I followed the Guide for the STO Builds template and hope that everything important is included below. Commander Sabbat's eyes moved between the haggard, gray haired man looking back at him in the mirror, and an old picture of him with his late wife.
We've had to seal up and shut down several compartments to conserve power for now." Ryan shook his head, "I'm handling it, sir."

... keep reading on reddit ➡Been running a hybrid DEW-EPG build and wanna convert to more Sci-torp and less DEW... especially if I decide to pick up the Chimesh and Chronos for their traits: Improved Grav Well and Exotic Modulation. What is below is what I am currently running... but want as much advice. I'D LIKE TO AVOID LOBI OR MORE ZEN (IF POSSIBLE), BUT WOULD CONSIDER IT IF STRONG ENOUGH ARGUMENT MADE.

... keep reading on reddit ➡Hello all, so I've been playing STO off and on for years now and am working to build a solid tank out of the Romulan Dreadnought. I was hoping I could get some ideas or tweaks to what I've put together so far and see if I've made any major blunders or misunderstood any synergies. Any and all help is very much appreciated.

I'm not really sure what to do with this ship. I wanted to try a sci/exotic build on it, but i found it dissatisfying. Now i'm stuck.

Wanted to get some opinions before I commit a bunch of dilithium on this build. Items that have the modifiers are ones I already own. The ones without I do not. Captain used to fly another ship, so the skill points may need a rework.
