I was hoping somebody on here might be able to help track down a newspaper article about HMSΒ TiptoeΒ (P332). (Sorry Mods if this is not allowed here).
According to Wikipedia:
> Following a refit in Portsmouth,Β TiptoeΒ went to theΒ Firth of ClydeΒ forΒ working up, arriving on 10 January 1964, when she was ordered not to enterΒ GarelochΒ due to dense fog. The boat was duly turned around andΒ ran agroundΒ on a muddy bank. As the fog cleared it was realised the boat had run aground onlyΒ 40 yards (37Β m)Β opposite that of the house of the Royal Navy's Captain in Charge for the Clyde area, Captain G. D. Pound.
Allegedly, the captain's wife drew back the curtains at breakfast and remarked, "There's a submarine in our garden, dear" whereupon her husband retorted, "Don't be silly, woman!" (or words to that effect. And the newspapers were presented with a gift headline:Β "Tiptoe through the Tulips".
I have been trying to track down this newspaper headline as a present for my FIL, who loves telling this story, for a few years and have had no such luck. Does anyone recall the incident and have any idea which newspaper this was published in?
I made a 2nd account to run around playing tiny tim lmao. Funny as hell.
