A list of puns related to "The Tatami Galaxy"
Havenβt watched the show yet, but while looking at the blu-ray online I noticed a tiny detail that the back cover states βOwn the complete UNCUT editionβ. Is this implying that thereβs more than one version of the show? If that is the case, what version does Funimation have on their website for streaming?
Looking for TV, comics, books, manga and movies. I'm pretty set with anime.
Basically "coming of age" stories with strong surreal/magical realism overtones and high-energy, over the top presentation. Characters that are weird and zany, but the series as a whole is surprisingly grounded. Strong focus on music and humour is a plus.
Also see Apathy and other small victories, Science of Sleep, Man seeking Woman, Eternal sunshine etc
What is the most tiring thing one can do, but at the end you will just feel very satisfied after finishing it? It could be like, wrapping a gift, cleaning your car (or anything tedious), finishing the day's work or maybe your college thesis...
But I assure you, you would definitely feel the same way with this anime.
Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei (scored 8.6 on MAL) is one of those odd, artistic, and abstract anime (produced by Mad House). When I picked this up, I expected something bizarre with a lot of symbolism and twisty plot twists... True enough, it delivered. And more.
This anime focuses on the concept of choice and possibilities, dwelling on "What if" situations. Each episode is basically the main character choosing a different start or a different life (take a look at the plot in MAL).
As the show progresses, you yourself will eventually be caught up with the protagonist's emotions and feelings of "what if I did it differently". In a way, what made this special was it resonated with almost every one of us. We all make decisions that either we are proud of or we regret. We all get ourselves into situations that could've been better. And we all wished we could have changed something we did in the past.
The magic of Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei was, at the end, all those doubts I had, the anxieties for all the decisions I both made and will make, all of them were simply dispelled, which led me to a very meaningful conclusion of acceptance, and to be brave in taking the next step.
Going back to what I first mentioned, watching multiple episodes of having different but similar story patterns without a satisfying conclusion or in some times, without leaving much of an interest for the next episode, is indeed very tedious and there is a chance of dropping this anime midway (I dropped it actually lol).
But it is all part of the bigger picture. It's like solving a puzzle with a lot of scattered pieces where at the end, when you put that final piece, everything will just connect and make sense, forming a very beautiful, meaningful mosaic of colors.
Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei is a remarkable take on what it means to really, "choose". And if I were you, well, there is nothing to lose in giving this show a try, isn't it?
I am rewatching Yuasa-directed 2014 anime, The Tatami Galaxy.

I've heard they're connected but i want to watch night it short with some of my buddies for a movie night, can we watch it without seeing tatami galaxy? I plan on watching tatami eventually but still idk if we can watch the movie first
The anime was already good enough, so I totally get why people may overlook the book. However, I do highly recommend checking out the novel as well. The book itself is so peculiar than the anime, even when it comes to the narrative. In addition to that, I noticed how many episodes the studio had added, and were not included in the novel. I once heard people criticizing Tatami for stretching out its contents. If you believe so, then you'll be enjoying this ride more than the anime!
I've been a fan of Murakami's books for a while now and I recently came across a animated television series that really scratched the "Murakami TV/Movie" itch for me. It's called The Tatami Galaxy and it's an 11 episode series about a lonely college student who is on a journey of self discovery. It has the same abstract surrealism (especially in the visuals) that we all love in a Murakami novel and really is a good watch. Plus, the first 2 episodes of the series are hosted by the publisher free on Youtube here! The rest of the series I believe is free with an account at Funimation's webpage here.
Let me know what you guys think!
Edit: Thanks to /u/GretaGarbology for sharing that the show is also on Hulu here.
Hey guys, itβs Bobduh, guy behind this and this and etc. New one today! Hopefully a little less overwhelming than the last, since I have no grand argument I wish to prove on this one. I just watched a really great show and want to talk about it.
The Tatami Galaxy or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Ride
The Tatami Galaxy is a dizzying spectacle of an anime. Adapted by Yuasa Masaaki (the extremely distinctive director behind Mind Game, Kaiba, Kemonozume, and recently Kick-Heart) from a novel (a real novel, not just a My Light Novel Canβt Be This Pandering and Derivative LN) by Morimi Tomihiko (the writer of Uchouten Kazoku, which is currently my choice for best show of the year), itβs basically perfect. Not gonna slowroll that - this goes on my list with Madoka and Katanagatari of shows that I couldnβt see meaningfully improved. Itβs already there.
Writing-wise, the show is fundamentally a very classic story. Watashi (like in Jinrui, the protagonist is never given an actual name) enters college with dreams of discovering that mystical rose-colored campus life, but is swiftly dragged into petty schemes and mad feuds by his ever-looming classmate Ozu. As one potential club and life path after another end in disappointment and regret, the show continuously whips back the clock, using its runtime to illustrate as many theoretical campus lives as possible. Our hero gets caught in a Scientology-esque pyramid scheme, finds himself running an elicit bike-thieving operation, somehow becomes the bodyguard of a beloved mannequin wife, and all manner of wacky, improbable, gorgeously depicted nonsense beside. Through all these potential lives, various characters continuously pop up i

Making allusions to the rest of Yuasa's oeuvre is fine, but please refrain from outright spoiling any series that isn't the main topic of a thread. Don't spoil ahead for the series in question too! Lets try to give both newcomers and rewatchers a good atmosphere for discussion
So I've been looking all over the place for either a Tatami Galaxy Poster or a high quality picture so I could print it myself but I couldn't find anything. I've ordered one on redbbble but after I got a poster with terrible quality I complained so they gave me my money back -_- Does anyone have any tips?
I find it too repetitive, so it bores me.
Please send help. Spoilers appreciated.
I especially like the plot or Tatami galaxy, and i want moar halp plox
Something artsy I suppose, I feel artsy and deep right now. No light novel adaptations, no shounen shouting. Count Bakemonogatari out, I already watched it and didn't like it.
Hi, back in the day ippon.tv would have an up next on Tatami #1. It was really helpful, but where did it go?
