First off, as with every book so far I’ve found the ground laying and build up of the first 2 books to take me a while to get into considering every book ends so strongly.
Toll the Hounds was the biggest example of this, took move a month and a half to get through the first two parts before I blow through Books 3 and 4 in under a week.
High points:

Everything with Hood, Rake, Dassem and the realm of the dead and Trygalle Trade Guild. How it all come together was perfect. Curious to see what Toc and Gruntle get up to next. The two of them are some of my favorite characters in the series. I love how Gruntle was just a regular dude with no history or special cause or allegiance and he’s just thrust in this war of the gods. Dassem is truly a sufferboi. Poor guy.

Karsa Orlong of course. His anti-hero/redemption/witness arc is great. He has two of the most badass lines in the series at the end of the past two books. “Just once” and “Then be a thief again and steal me a hound’s life tonight.” That last one gave me fucking chills.

Fuck Kallor but by god he is such a profoundly interesting character. Need more of him. Spinock Durav is a badass, and deserved Kallor’s probably extremely rare mercy.

Kruppe’s narration was kind of unusual, an aggressive stylistic switch at the beginning, but for the last 400 pages or so i think it actually elevated the story and helped ease down the very dark tone of the novel. Deadhouse Gates (IMO one of the most grimdark things I’ve ever read) could’ve benefitted from this honestly but it stylistically wouldn’t have worked there.

How exactly was the moon shattered? Something to do with the Hounds of Light? That part was extremely confusing to me. Just everything with the moon and the Hounds arrival.

How did Anomander Rake cheat in their duel? I’m guessing it was supposed to be inferred but it was like 3 AM and I couldn’t pick it up despite reading the part a couple times. Was it allowing himself to die so he could enter Dragnipur? Thereby denying Dassem Hood and allowing himself to free the gate? That’s all I could guess.

What exactly was everyone’s issue with this book? I’ve heard it’s the most divisive but my gripes with it can be found in every other book of the series so far (boring/annoying POV characters and plot threads that seem to lead/end nowhere).

I work in IT and for the most part, my coworkers are great. I’m the only woman on the team and have had issues in previous jobs with being treated differently, but these guys are awesome.
Except for one coworker who makes comments about how ‘when I have kids it’ll be different’ and tells me I’ll change my mind one day because everyone, especially women, really wants kids. I generally like this guy though, and the comments are few and far between, so it’s not a big issue to me.
We’ve been studying together for our CISSP certification, a fairly difficult exam that covers a massive scope of topics. But he came to just about every review unprepared, always with an excuse about how he couldn’t get all of his studying done because of something with his kids. Don’t get me wrong. I work full time and have a busy life as well, but I had way more flexibility to study.
Test day came this week and I passed! Unfortunately my coworker did not. Again, he admitted that he didn’t study as much as he should have because he was so swamped with kid stuff. It sucks for him, but while he has decided to take a break from studying since he doesn’t have time, I’ll be picking out the next certification I want. I may even go back for my masters!
Loving life right now. Going to celebrate my new certification tonight by having one too many beers with my boyfriend and checking out a new band because hey, we can sleep in all day tomorrow!
