Catholics believe that homosexual marriage and sex are wrong. They are entitled to believe that, and to act on it. The way to do this is for them to not marry or have sex with a person of the same sex.
But when Catholics argue that their view on homosexuality should prevail even in secular societies such as the U.S.A., they go too far. Because it is not in fact based on reason, logic, or positive utility.
They claim that homosexuality is wrong because it goes against something they call "Natural Law." It helps to remember that Catholic vocabulary is not the same as English. "Natural Law" is not natural and not law. They begin by claiming that everything in nature has a purpose Greek ("telos"). For them, God created them for this purpose, but for secular circles they will say without God you still have Natural Law.
Then they say that to go against this purpose is for some reason (not having to do with God) immoral. They don't actually believe this, as I will show, since it makes no sense.
Finally, the purpose of sex is obviously reproduction. Therefore, to use sex organs for a purpose other than reproduction is immoral.
Oh, and it's not being gay that is a sin, it's gay sex and marriage. So gay people should either remain celibate or marry someone of the opposite sex.
I hope I have summarized their position fairly. If not, Catholics please correct me.
First, nature in fact has no goal or purpose. Individuals may, but nature does not. The flora and fauna flourish because, we know, they have evolved to do so. Should a mammal start using its fingers as wings (bats) there is nothing moral or immoral about it.
Second, as I say they do not actually believe this, or they would not wear rings (fingers were not made to display jewels), or rest their glasses on their noses, or, possibly, dance, since legs are obviously for locomotion, not exuberant recreation.
More importantly, when most of us think about ethics, I hope we are focusing on ideas like kindness, equality, honesty, respect and fairness, not whether it's o.k. to chew gum as mouths are there to eat with, not create sweet flavored saliva.
There is also an element of cruelty in denying to people their chance at truly loving and being loved, in a devoted intimate relationship. The start of the second half is going to haunt me for a while. The game would have basically been over if that touchdown had stood after the kickoff was ruled a fumble/touchdown. Whether or not the initial ruling was correct, the subjective nature of the returner "giving himself up" without taking a knee is just asking for a mess. I'm so frustrated. We should be playing next Sunday with a shot to host the AFC championship game.

No. Not everything will be alright. We, as a species, can go extinct and if we are to go extinct it would most likely be due to our own actions or of neglect of our ancestors' actions' consequences.
On Earth alone, cultures, peoples and entire civilisations have vanished, been destroyed and forgotten. Species have gone extinct before. Hypothetically, how many alien civilsations have been annihilated? How many hyperintelligent species have gone extinct. Of course there is no way of knowing, but given that the Universe is infinite and over 13 billion years old, I reckon it has happened before, and it can definitely happen to us.
