A list of puns related to "The Bouncer (film)"
This is scratching quite an old and obscure surface few probably care about, but I can think of no better place to get this off my mind. The name of the game in question probably brings back some memories for a select few, since this is a North American PS2 launch title we're talking about. The Bouncer was between Squaresoft and Dream Factory, back when Square took in interest in getting some weird fighting games out the door, Tobal 1 + 2 and Ehrgeiz being under their belt at that time. Dream Factory, for those unaware, had the helping hand of Seiichi Ishii, who helped bring Virtua Fighter and Tekken 1 and 2 to life as a designer and director respectively. Surely, with experience of such influential games, and a new generation of console hardware at their disposal, something amazing was bound to happen, right? Well, I wouldn't exactly say that.
The Bouncer came out with some pretty meh reviews, most just middle of the road or below average scores, with some good ones here and there. However, the negative reputation I mention comes more from contemporary sources. Looking up the game practically anywhere will bring you some sort of negative result, some labeling it a disappointment in every regard, some calling it the worst game to bear the Squaresoft or Square Enix name (highly debatable lol), and others doing what I'm doing now and saying it's much better than everyone says. Most people who compliment the game, however, do so with heavy amounts of nostalgia, and will always say so. It never seems like people in the modern day pick up this game and leave satisfied enough to speak their mind online, which is strange, because I managed that exact thing.
I wasn't even aware of this game's existence until a few years ago, which is surprising because I was and still am THE PS2 guy to everyone I know. Only quite recently did I finally grab it and finally try it, knowing full well what some people seem to think of it, seeing as I first got introduced to it through a scathingly negative review I watched at some point. I know it seems dumb to get a game I've heard nothing but bad things about, but understand, this game called to me. It had several traits I seemed to like on the surface, dumb writing, a flat sense of humor, that early 2000s cool kid vibe, and cheese enough to put even a four cheese pizza to shame. Besides, I've come to believe that not forming my own opinions of something I find interesting and never trying it because some people didn't like it is

But holy shit am I sick of being the person who "decides" a homeless person needs to be kicked out of the ED on a cold winter night. When I take call I see ED consults for "psych patients". Once it becomes obvious to the ED staff that a patient is homeless and just looking for a bed for the night, they always consult psych for the final say on whether the patient should be discharged or not, even if there is no psychiatric symptom or complaint. My last overnight shift (the first freezing temp night of the year) I got "consulted" on 3 homeless patients, none of whom had any reported psychiatric symptoms, each time the ED doc telling me "either you admit them or they get discharged". Each time the ED doc said "I don't think they need admission", indicating they were not actually worried about an acute safety concern. Maybe I'm crazy, but I feel like there is a deliberate tone of "I'm not going to be the one to tell them they need to leave, you are".
Two of the patients begged me to let them stay but for various reasons they could not be admitted and I told the ED staff I wouldn't admit them. The 3rd one knew the game, knew what to say, despite it being clear he was just coming down from meth and coke and wanted to crash somewhere. When I said I didn't think he met criteria for a psych admission he rolled over in the bed to turn away from me, saying "what are you gonna do, send me out to die? I might hurt myself out there", and went back to sleep. I was essentially forced to admit this person. But the two I did not admit fucking gutted me, I would have admitted them but they very clearly violated admission policies and did not meet any criteria. I went into medicine to help people, not to have fellow colleagues pass the buck onto me to tell homeless people they need to spend the night in the cold. I will gladly see patients if there is any actual psych question, but in these cases it is more that the ED policy seems to be "psych decides discharge on homeless patients" and it breaks my heart.
My partner and I usually try to stay engaged with our 6wk LO while they are awake and alert. However when I make myself an espresso and our breakfast in the morning, Iβll just pop them in the bouncer and they seem to happily watch me do my thing. Sometimes they get pretty drowsy and does a sort of blank stare, so Iβll pop them in the carrier while I eat and they sleep. My question is does this bouncer time sound too boring for them? They donβt have any toys or distractions other than the busyness of the kitchen. Is that enough? Usually they just had a feed after waking up hangry.
A man wants to get into a club but thereβs a password. The man decides to observe. A woman walks up to the bouncer and the bouncer says β12β, she replies β6β and gets let it. A man approaches the bouncer and the bouncer says β6β. The man says β3β and gets let in. The man, deciding that heβs cracked the code approaches the bouncer. The bouncer says β10β, the man responds β5β but is denied access. Why?
Because they belong behind bars.
On Thursday night I went to a bar in Spokane Washington with some friends. The bouncer at the door took a look at my ID and then said it was fake. He then confiscated it. For reference I have an Oregon ID. I proceeded to argue with him and he said if I wanted it back I had to call the police. I called the police and after waiting an hour for a response they called my saying I had to return to the bar tomorrow and talk to management if I wanted to get my ID back. After I left the bar I was then told by two different people that the bouncer had been showing other people trying to get into the bar my ID. Apparently he was using it as proof that their IDs were also fake or something. I returned to the bar yesterday and talked to the bartender who said they had sent all the taken IDs to the state liquor board. After arguing with him I was able to talk to the owner of the bar. The owner asked for my name and after hearing it took my ID out of his pocket. He then said he believed it was fake and told me the only way I could prove it was real was by sending it to the state liquor board. After arguing with him more he gave it back to me but said if I ever try to go to the bar again they will take it. Ironically I have been to this bar in the past and they never thought it was fake. I also question whether he actually though it was fake given that he already had it in his pocket.
Iβm assuming that because he gave my ID back there isnβt really any crime being committed, Iβm just curious what my rights are as a citizen when it comes to my ID being taken by a bar. I am also wondering if the bouncer violated any laws by showing my ID to other people at the bar.
So Iβm a stripper and the club I work at just hired a new bouncer. I will call him Marshall, because he is obsessed with Eminem and hates sex workers. Kind of a weird job for a guy like him to have, right?
So on Sunday night, the club closed and a bunch of the bouncers decided to hang out after work (as theyβre basically nocturnal at this point). Marshall was invited as he was new and people wanted to welcome him. A blunt was passed, and Marshall got upset because heβs straight edge andβfrom what i gatherβjust kind of marched out of there self righteously after upbraiding everyone there for being losers who havenβt done anything with their lives. I wasnβt there, but this is just what Iβve heard from people that were.
However, I was leaving to go home to my son, and he caught up with me while I was on my way to the bus stop. He asked me if Iβd ever gone to one of their smoke sessions and I said no, because Iβm straight edge. (I learned about his outburst at the smoke sesh later from a bouncer Iβm friends with). We chatted for a little bit, and he seemed normal for like 10 minutes. I explained to him that I was going home to see my son. He told me that I seemed to have a βgood sense of direction in life,β and that I wasnβt like the other people who worked there, who lived meaningless existences filled with weed and video games. I was like, βyeah, but theyβre my friends.β
He gave me this speech about how he could tell I had so much potential, but that i βobviously havenβt made the best decisions,β like being a stripper and having a child. He proceeded to tell me that I could rise above my circumstances if I just cut out these βnegative influences.β Bro, YOU WORK HERE WITH ME. Meanwhile, Iβm putting myself through school, Im a good mother to my son, and I escaped an abusive relationship. Iβve gotten over a lot of my social anxiety and body image issues BECAUSE OF THIS JOB. Iβve made lifelong friends here.
He then looked into my eyes and said, βI bet no one has ever told you that before.β He actually acted as if I were some impoverished child he had taught to read.
A few days later, one of my bouncer friends, Dave, came up to me delicately and told me that Marshall had told everybody about our βinteraction.β
βOh yeah. He just gave me this inspirational talk about how I was too good to work here.β
βNo, thatβs not what I meant. He told me you, uh, blew him.β
I was shocked. Apparently Dave and Marshall had started beefing because Marshall told all

I have seen many articles and posts saying things like 'bouncers have very difficult jobs, they have to deal with difficult people all night and they get treated like shit despite being nice people'. While some of this may be true a very high proportion of them are striaght up assholes. I have been to bars etc. sober and bouncers start yelling at people for no reason. They have power trips e.g. if you ask them a legitimate question they will think you are challenging them which will hurt their ego and then they will kick you out.
A lot of bouncers are straight up assholes. I don't care if you have to deal with drunk people, you shouldn't be a dick to people who aren't causing problems and you should lose your ego
