A list of puns related to "The Beautiful and Damned (film)"
Fitzgerald refers to a chromo (I assume a chromolithograph) that features a skull and appendages - that is common to every "den" (his quotation marks) - and I'm assuming it means opium den. Was this a real lithograph? If so, does anyone know where I can look at it?
Any theories or speculation on the ultimate fate of Dot, Anthony's WWI townie girlfriend? She was last seen with an airborne hardwood chair flying at her.
Am I correct in assuming that Dick, Gloria's cousin, arranged for Dot's sudden reappearance? We're told that he had resented Gloria for years because she said she didn't plan to read his book.
Did that motivate him to bring Dot into the picture on her husband's big day when the long-awaited verdict on his challenge to his grandfather's will was to be delivered?
While I recognize that no omniscient view can be assembled from the text, I would like to hear an explanation that ties the events at the end together with a reasonable scenario.
BTW, this book is now in the public domain and can be downloaded free from archive.org. It takes the reader from the "original" 20's (100 years ago) into the Depression years, with New York City settings, some of which still exist and some of which were demolished decades ago. I found it to be a very absorbing read.
The review, which was published in the New York Tribune in 1922, seems to have a joking, lighthearted tone. But F. Scott Fitzgerald really did use his wifeβs words in his writing. It was a source of tension between them and, from what Iβve read, has led to some heated debate among academics. However, I havenβt found anything that references contemporary public responses.
Did the public take this accusation seriously? If so, did it in any way impact their opinions on the book or the author? F. Scott Fitzgerald seemed to feel entitled to use his wifeβs words without crediting herβwas this unusual for the time, or was Zeldaβs resentment and public callout the outlier?
Crazy to know we getting These Things Happen Too soon π€π€
All in all my favorite remix is probably the Leviathan one
He's got some pretty nice songs in here with a few having him pour his heart out. I'm pretty satisfied with it! Gonna have fun with this for the next few weeks :)
Nice job Gerald!
Anyone who is worried about Gβs music changing to go to main stream, this should put your worries to bed. This song reeks of old G
Mostly the title, do you guys know the black and white guy with two faces, other being white and other being a black skeleton type or something like that. Am deciding what tattoo to get next and i'd like to get an idea off of this.
I have looked everywhere. I want to watch it on my laptop, and I donβt mind paying. Thank you!
So I saw this book on tumblr and the name intrigued me. I searched it up and it seems relatively good, I've heard good things too: what do you guys think? Anyone who's read the book?
always thought its the latter......
I thought I would share a post I just made on Instagram . I have been trying to be more vulnerable about my de-conversion process, and this post is an attempt at that. It's a picture of some philosophy quotes "life is absurd" "god is dead" "hell is other people" and portraits of philosophers like Camus and Sartre and Nietzsche which are on pins I put on a little make-up bag.
i feel like an opinionated 14 year old girl with these punk sci/phi pins decorating my lipstick bag, and i'm enjoying the irony of them covering an item created by the christian missions industrial complex way more than a grown ass man should... that's what happens when you endure the death throes of your old faith systems, pillars crumbling down around you- you are born again for the first time, and you recapitulate developmental stages pretty damn fast. so in some ways i guess i am 14 years old.
for years i thought that i had been rebirthed, that i had found life everlasting, a fount of every blessing. maybe in some ways it was what that lonely, depressed 12 year old kid needed- what i needed for that part of my journey. but what was then living water to me proved in the end to be a stagnant breeding ground for parasites which were eating me alive from the inside out. i will always struggle with the damage they did to my soul, and at times that thought gives rise to an acrid bitterness which i can, desperate for a release, hurl at other people. i have learned over the past two years to let go of a lot of that bitterness, and i have learned to live life on the other side of faith. the jesus myth will always hold a special place in my heart. it will always inform my ideas of love and grace. but i have to tell you- life on the other side is pretty god damned beautiful. there is a depth and a human richness i would have never imagined. one day they will lay me in the ground. i do not say "they will lay my body in the ground". i say "they will lay me". i will rot away and my atoms and molecules and the energy they hold in their bonds will become the matter and energy other living things will use to fuel their journey on this earth, our home, and in that way i will live on too. maybe a part of me is the memories or symbols you hold of me in your own physical mind, and those things too will linger for a little while, and that is a beautiful thought, that we dwell in each other like that. that's the hard part, isn't it? that it all ends for each
