Dr. Merit Cudkowicz will be presenting on New Therapies for ALS on December 1st 4pm PT | 7pm PT.
Dr. Cudkowicz is the Chief of the Massachusetts General Hospital Neurology Service, Director, Sean M. Healey & AMG Center for ALS at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Julieanne Dorn Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School in Boston. Dr. Cudkowicz directs the Massachusetts General Hospital ALS Program. She is one of the founders and former co-directors of the Northeast ALS Consortium (NEALS). She is leading the first Platform Trial initiative in ALS. She is Principal Investigator of the Clinical Coordination Center for the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke’s Neurology Network of Excellence in Clinical Trials (NeuroNEXT).
Dr. Terry Heiman-Patterson will be presenting on Respiratory Considerations in ALS: When to implement, maximizing and how to make a difference in respiratory function.
Dr. Heiman-Patterson is the Director of the Center for Neurodegenerative Disorders and a Professor in the Department of Neurology at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. She directs the MDA/ALS Center of Hope, including the clinical and laboratory research programs. She serves as Co-Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Northeast ALS Consortium (NEALS) and is a member of the ALS RG, an international study group. Dr. Heiman-Patterson has published over 90 papers, abstracts, and chapters on ALS and related motor neuron diseases, along with more than 60 more on other areas of muscle and nerve disease.
UPDATE: I asked her more questions today and I learned that she didn’t really report the case to the right authority in the university. She reached out to some random person who posted about sexual assault and they are no help. I might try to persuade her to report it to school/police properly later, but I need to first make sure she gets better and doesn’t further hurt herself.
My problem now is that, she told me that she is over this rape issue already. She said that she doesn’t care about sex and she doesn’t think it is a stigma, the rape happened but it is not a big deal for her, and that she is not traumatized. She just needs to adapt to the world better. It won’t make her feel better if she put the rapist in jail. She told me she doesn’t want any help from those sexual assault help organizations, because it doesn’t apply to her. She does agree to see a psychologist to work on her other issues.
From my perspective, she is obviously traumatized by the rape, she just doesn’t want to admit it. She had mental issues before (and the rapist took advantage of it), but she has never been in such bad shape mentally before. But if I push her to reach out to sexual assault counsellors, I think she will just roll her eyes and refuse to talk. Can someone give me advice on how to navigate this situation? I think I am the only person who knows that she was raped, she doesn’t want to me to tell her parents or her friends in Australia. If you know any particular psychologist that is good on both trauma and other issues like depression, message me.

Original Post: My friend is a bright and creative girl who went to Monash University as a international student. I am her high school friend and I don’t live in Australia. In the past three weeks, she sometimes call me randomly and her sentences were not coherent, and she will cry in the middle. I was worried but she won’t tell me what was going on. She had depression before so I thought that she might be having another episode. But today she finally told me that she was raped at school. She reported to the school, but they are not going to do anything about it. She couldn’t remember the face of the rapist, as she is face blind. There was no security camera that might capture where they went. It is hard to find evidence and she gave up on trying to catch the rapist.

Has anyone used this vet office? I just witnessed what I think is the owner verbally abusing the crap out of her staff. I checked up on the reviews to see if that was a fluke but apparently she's either the greatest vet in town or absolutely bonkers. Waging whole Twitter and Google review wars with whoever offers an unkind review. How is this person still in business?
