One of the things that first drew me to Onmyoji was the Heian period Shin Megami Tensei vibes. I'm a big SMT fan, and part of the reason I love it so much is that it tends to be very thoughtful about real world philosophical debates (generally framed in those games as Lawful/Neutral/Chaos).
This Taishakuten versus Asura event reminds me of a broad philosophical contrast: utilitarianism versus deontology. As a very brief explanation, Utilitarianism is a school of philosophy that says what is morally 'right' is creating the most amount of happiness for the most people, and that will outweigh any 'bad' or immoral things you do to achieve it (i.e. betraying someone who trusts you.). Deontology is a school of philosophy that says that there are certain moral rules that you do not break no matter what, even if breaking them would prevent suffering or increase happiness.
I need to read through the story again, but my first quick read through made me think of Taishakuten as a Utilitarian and Asura as a Deontologist. What do you think?
I should also mention that neither of these schools of thought are meant to be the only way you make decisions, you will inevitably end up causing suffering if you are a pure Utilitarian or a pure Deontologist. Taish and Asura and definitely pure in their orientations, and I would argue that this is why their story is so tragic.
FWIW, I'm fighting on Taishakuten's side!
It's on Zee5 and I have rewatched it a couple of times now. Just the flow of the movie is perfect. Everything fits. This is a key aspect of whats been wrong with most of the hindi films in recent past. It is a type of film to flow smoothly. Every other movie is a multi-cast team up movie where you can see editting and pacing issues.
Music always strengthens the movie. Beautiful soundtrack.
The plot is fairly good and you dont know how the movie is going to end. Every character has grey shades. Like no one is completely right or wrong with their respective actions.
The plot points all lead up to one central storyline. Mob Family, Child Abuse, Sunny's Rage, Pali's internal conflict. The storyline is handled in an extremely serious manner. Bejoy Nambiar is such a great storyteller. He is very serious about his story as he understands all the minute details. He has a couple of funny moments but stands to be a serious storyteller. Sadly he messed up with David a bit & it did not deliver. Creative car chase scene, like dimming the lights and driving in pitch black to trick. The car chase scenes in hindi films just dont measure up when compared to the ones in his films. Β Harshvardhan Rane's performance- I really appreciate how slow and dramatic a lot of the scenes are with him swooping down. There's just something unbelievably deep and sad about his character; Pali. He is almost like a killing machine WITH EXTREMELY DEEP, EMOTIONAL ISSUES , always on the edge of snapping for good. He will break your bones one by one if he feels like he that needs to. He will give you severe brain injury if he feels like that he needs to. One could see the rage, paranoia and pain in Pali. You just looked at Pali and could feel the years of pain and torment he carried within him. Harshavardhan Rane had a certain aura around him in that movie you could sense. You wonder and ask yourself just what happened to this guy over the last 20 years. And he summed it up perfectly. He is a fantastic actor. Acting is just that, an act. And no matter how great you can act, you know its an act.
Taish is probably one of the coolest hindi films of recent times.
Itβs definitely a visual treats, few scenes like Jim sarbh coming out of Shadow or pulkit Samrat pointing gun in that night club were memorable scenes. Have to praise BGM too and the use of songs.
Harshvardhan Rane was the best among all
And Jim Sarbh was, well Jim Sarbh . He is pretty good at rich classy guy who cross the line roles.
So during the initial covid quarantine I went and bought a ton of training materials to supplement my at home training as there were no classes. Some of what I bought were instructional dvds for Wing Chun which I already practiced. However I also bought 4 dvds for Taishing Pekwar for fun. Recently I finally got around to watching them and I found myself interested in the styles after watching the dvds. Was thinking about trying to find a school near me but wanted other's opinions on the style.
The riders of the Zhìxù Shèng waited, rallied together, as Sun Bei waited for his trusted and beloved friend to meet him, to give word of the outcome of the Bèixìnqìyì Conclave. The Zhìxù Lianhua dotted their wall, and many of them had taken to the village streets, prepared to fight if the Zhìxù Shèng moved any closer. Citizens and servants huddled in their homes, but even then they were not safe, as soldiers took refuge within the covered buildings. If this was to be a war, it would be bloodied by the lives of the innocents - the Zhìxù Lianhua would make sure of it.
Liu Yu could be heard far away, yelling to his lord. The crowd of the Zhìxù Shèng soldiers turned to look to the rider and his crew, as they bolted down the road.
"The Congress found them innocent! Vo Oshir is dead! Attack!"
That was all that needed to be heard. The Zhìxù Shèng men on the ground raised their arms, and a sudden hail of bolts peppered the wall and front lines of the Zhìxù Lianhua, and a battle was at hand. The defenders were caught off guard, tired from a full day of watching and waiting, and now they suffered for it, as dozens of them fell to the arrow and bolt of their enemies. By the time the Zhìxù Lianhua soldiers had responded, it was too late, and the village of Taish was ensnared in combat.
"Liu Yu! Lead the qΓbΔ«ng around the village center! Occupy it and ensure that the Lianhua are routed!"
The veteran obeyed the command of the young son of the Curator, and lead alone the mounted soldiers deeper through the village, knocking down and slaughtering any who stood against them. Sun Bei had personally taken it upon himself to push back the Zhìxù Lianhua soldiers, and moving from building to building, road from road, he and his forces put down the Lianhua soldiers in their path, and within minutes, more than half of the village of Taish was under the total control of Sun Bei, Liu Yu, and their combined Order.
And that was when Kugu Oshir, Curator of the Zhìxù Lianhua, lead the counter offensive, atop the wall and accompanied by almost all that was left of the Order.
"Sun Bei! You and your ilk have the option to surrender now, if you deem it fitting! If you do not, you and all those who stand by you shall be put to death!"
The Zhìxù Lianhua were far more well equipped than those from the north, and it was clear when one saw the soldiers of Teishel, carrying upon them armour of chain and plate, weapons of both power and precision, and courage immense. The soldier

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
They were cooked in Greece.
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
After fallenguru kindly mentioned this in the WAYRT thread, I will post it here to get a bit more attention. Hopefully this can help future people figure out some stuff before hopping into this universe.
For Dies Irae (and by extension KKK, and I guess Paradise lost), I am aware there are a few philosophical concepts that might be helpful to read up on before diving deep into it. I believe Masada references a few philosophical principles that I am likely unfamiliar with. Similar to Senshinkan and the whole Kantan concept (among other things like Shintoism and the connection to Buddhism during the Meiji era/Virtues of Confucianism/The story of the Hakkeden/Chinese/pre and post Meiji era things/some western religion stuff in Japan).
Does anyone have a short list of "sparks notes" stuff that I should read up on? Would prefer it to be just enough to understand everything. I don't really want to read a book to read a book.
Thanks! :)
