Unless you have a near perfect swing that only a golf pro or high-level coach would be able to pick apart, posting for swing help here is literally useless.
Who cares if someone posted a swing like Charles fucking Barkley and was looking for help? It is fucking GOLF. The most frustrating and agonizingly difficult sport in the fucking WORLD. And the shitbags here KNOW that because once upon a time, they sucked shit and were desperate for help too! I mean Jesus Christ man, what is the conceited and prideful blockage that some golfers have on here that drives them to not only ignore help request, but to go out of there way to not do so and also put down another golfer in the process.
Man, I just donβt fucking get it. Why comment useless and rude shit to someone looking for help? Why push people away from the game by doing stupid insecure shit like that instead of bring more people in to enjoy? Fuck man. Shit makes my blood boil. I get way too worked up about this lmao but I had to put it in writing.
Basically, we all suck - stop trying to convince yourself you suck less and instead help other people who suck more, suck less.
I am in love with that last paragraph there.
Cheers and fuck all you insecure-Reddit-golf-boys and your $7,000 clubs
See that most posts are America based and just wondering if there's many UK members here?
My group has always bent the rules a little bit. We range in handicaps from 5-20 and for the most part play pretty casual rounds with little money on the line.
Our main rule infractions are:
Two off the first tee (Friendly start, we donβt want anyone making quad on first hole and being pissy)
Roll them in the short grass (we play low to mid level courses where conditions can be iffy even in the fairways. If you are in a divot, move it. If you are in the mud move it. We play the ball down in the rough.
Everything lateral hazard, even white stakes (more for just a pace of play reason, a lot of guys are too proud to hit a provisional βthatβs definitely still inβ)
Gimmes (anything inside about 2.5 feet is good, again pace of play)
One member of our group has really pressed playing everything by the rules. I just think itβs gonna really lengthen the rounds and make things much more tight.
So do you play golf 100% by the rules? And what percentage of golfers do you think actually do?
PS - I get it purists, I know weβre just hurting ourselves and not really playing βgolfβ. Just trying to get an idea of how everyone else does it.
They're both paid to drive.
Personally, I picked up the game of golf 6 years ago when a friend introduced me to it. I sucked. Shooting 120-130 a round, had a horrible slice on every shot, and would thin almost everything.
In the last 6 years, Iβve watched YouTube videos, recorded my own swing, made changes to my grip and bought custom fit clubs. No lessons, no training aids, just trial and error of what works and what doesnβt.
Now I shoot consistently in high 70βs to low 80βs, play off of a 5-yard cut, have come close to breaking par a few times and am thinking of trying my hand at playing competitive golf in 2022.
How many of you out there are self-improved golfers?
There are the classics like βyou need to keep your head down to make solid contactβ or βgolf is 90 percent mentalβ but there have to be others out there.
EDIT: In my experience as a PGA teaching professional (and watching other top instructors teach), keeping your head down is really poor advice and does a lot more harm than good. Your head should rotate freely, lacking tension.
Hereβs a quote from Steve Bann, a well-known instructor from Australia, that explains the peril of this advice most believe to be true:
βWithout a doubt, the single worst tip is βkeep your head downβ. No one has ever lifted their head; they come out of their setup posture. Trying to keep your head down creates tension and restriction leading to poor posture and resulting in lack of rotation. This is the very reason we come out of our posture. βLift your head, watch the ball and swing around a centered headβ is much better advice.β
In case he gets a hole in one.
Iβll go first. Iβm not a huge Sergio Garcia fan. I liked his masters run but overall heβs very angry on the course and acts in ways that are not role model-esque. He has a huge fan base though and I just donβt see why.
Thatβs it, Iβm over the moon after playing the round of my life so far today, plus I had my first birdie ever. Just wanted to write it down somewhere!
Notes from replies: for other 80βs looking to improve
Overwhelming feedback: -Get GIR % up -Taking medicine > taking doubles -3 putts are literal death -Account for missed GIRβs appropriately, worst result should be a reasonable Up & Down opp -Conservative shot from the tee w a plan for your second is always better than a long shot off the tee if youβre gonna be hoping to have a quality second shot -THE BETTER YOU GET THE HARDER IT IS TO IMPROVE. ACCEPT IT.
Other mental game feedback -Great players hit bad shots and recover, the rest turn bad shots into bad scores -Routine is critical to get body/mind in sync and improve consistency -Decisions should be made based on what your game is, not what you expect it to be
Hey guys, I am going to invest in a local golfer here in the town I live in to see if he can qualify through q school. The cost is $2,750 and I think it would be pretty cool to help a young man pursue a dream as I love the game but lack the skill to do anything other than have fun haha.
I thought I would share this idea to see what others think about it? Am I being a total douche for doing such a thing or is it more of a nice thing to do for another human?
I sincerely would like your thoughts on the topic to include would you ever consider such a thing? Thanks in advance and happy holidays.
As a former golf maintenance worker I have a few tips to not piss them off at your local courses.
Edit: 5. Fill your divots!!
