Soil with sulfur-oxidizing bacteria

I've tried a number of different soil samples in my area (even from different cities) and I can't seem to find anything with the right bacteria to oxidize elemental sulfur. My goal is to lower soil pH the "normal" way, instead of with sulfuric acid, for my acid-loving plants but unfortunately I'm not having much luck.

It's a shot in the dark, but does someone have any soil they're willing to share that has the right bacteria, i.e. significantly drops in pH over time when elemental sulfur (and nothing else) is added, and also doesn't have any viruses that will affect blueberry plants? Things like various ringspot viruses, shock, scorch, etc.

If no biters then I guess I'll have to email the scientific article authors that are doing all the research with these bacterial strains, and ask how they got them (or if they'll share any).

I live around Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

ZOE Test - reducing bad bacteria

I've had IBS-C symptoms for 3 years and just took a ZOE test. I've also had some autoimmune-like symptoms (fatigue, joint pain, mental fog) periodically without explanation.

There were lots of results from ZOE, but attached are my bacteria strains. Overall, I had "great" microbial diversity, but unfortunately it looks like I have a lot of bad bacterias dominating my gut. See below.

I've done some reading and it looks like my top "bad" bacterias are way overpopulated + linked to IBS and autoimmune symptoms. Namely:

  • Ruminoccoccus gnavus (associated with lupus-like symptoms and inflammation, IBD)
  • Flavonifractor plautii (associated with IBD)
  • Ruthenibacterium lactatiformans (associated with arthritis/joint pain)
  • Clostridium leptum (associated with arthritis/joint pain)

I've tried digging into literature about how to deal with these via diet, but can't really find much other than R. gnavus possibly being mitigated by eating apples and pears.

Does anyone have experience or pointers on how I can use diet to address these imbalances? I'm sure prebiotics are part of the equation, but which ones? R. gnavus seems to be fed by resistant starch so those are out. Are there any other things I should know about that strain, or others?

Thanks!

Sulfur producing bacteria from the gut

Hello everyone,

I have been suffering from h pylori for a year and have failed 2 treatments so far. I had an endoscopy which came back as mild gastritis. I have been having bad breath as a result with my breath smelling like sulfur. I know that there are sulfur producing bacteria in our gut but is there a way to reduce the number of these bacteria and help get rid of my bad breath. Any tips/remedies for this?

I have been taking garden of life Dr formulated probiotics once a day for almost 2 months with minimal improvement to my breath although all my other symptoms have gotten better.

Iron Sulfur Bacteria Bioreactor

Hello everyone waves.

I would like to culture Iron Sulfur bacteria. Does anyone have any advice on how I can best go about doing this in an inexpensive repeatable manner?

My initial attempts were likely laughable. Given the bacterias ability to grow in hot water tanks I thought it would be simple. Put bacteria in continuously hotish water with some elemental sulphur and some iron.

[COTD] Sulfur-eating Bacteria | 6 Jun, 2020

Previous COTD

Today's card is Sulfur-eating Bacteria (#251):

Active card (Blue) | Venus Next expansion

Cost: 6 | Requirements: 6% Venus | Tags: Venus, Microbe

Action: Add 1 microbe to this card, or spend any amount of microbes here to gain triple of that amount in MC.

My thoughts: A great combo with microbe adding cards or Viron if there are no other action cards. Without them, it's much less effective because you don't have a lot of activations. The requirement is easier to reach with a Venus corporation in play.

Question: If you don't need extra MC from this card urgently, how many microbes would you get before cashing out? Assume Ants is not in play.

As per the title, a stool analysis showed pretty much no oxolate reducing bacteria. I don’t have any sort of symptoms (kidney/urinary anyway) apart from stomach issues. I don’t really want to go on a low oxolate diet since my diet is already pretty restricted and I’m trying to eat a range of different foods now in order to improve my microbiome. However, I don’t want to end up with kidney stones! Does anyone know anything about this particular area please?
