A list of puns related to "Strawman theory"
Spreading conspiracy theories about teaching about historical racism in schools:
https://archive.ph/T4siJ
βSchools have become the greatest tool to push radical left ideas. China happens to fund a lot of the Ivy League schools. It looks like socialism is inevitable in the USA, unless the people begin to speak out against it. I hope that we will prevail because this is the greatest country to have been created and it would be depressing to see it fail. They say that the average life-span of a civilization according to history is on average 350 years.β
Strawmanning what critical race theory is:
βWhy should we be teaching that people are inherently bad or good based on skin colorβ
βI would say their goal is to break down the USA, which is what will happen if America starts embracing radical left ideas. For all we know they probably unleashed covid on the world because Trump was ramping America up economically and was threatening China's place as number 1 in the world. Biological warfare is the most efficient form of war in the modern era.β
Teaching children about racism is indoctrination, apparently:
βEverything everyone else already said plus children do not have the intellectual capacity to grasp these concepts. If you want to make it a college class, fine. Teaching it in grade schools, or kindergartens for Christ's sake, is abominable. It's straight up indoctrination.β
Do these people even know what critical race theory is or do they just definite it through their alt right propaganda?:
βIt is unsubstantiated, unproven, anti-scientific nonsense. All critical theory (including critical race theory) explicitly opposes the scientific method, and refuses to proved proof for its assumptions. For example: black people underperforming in American education. crt says this is because minority races are oppressed by the majority race ... conveniently ignoring that Asians outperform the white majority. crt has no coherent explanation for "the oppressed" doing better than "the oppressors". crt can't explain why Obama was elected to the highest elected position in America. crt can't even explain the end of slavery. It's utterly useless, alongside astrology and homeopathy - this is the level of proof it has, I'm not exaggerating.β
Anything I donβt like is βMarxismβ/s:
βThatβs the modern obfuscation of CRT. CRT is the specific application of Critical Theory in the US developed by the Marxists in the 1930βs. CRT is the cover for Marxism. We all know this. This
... keep reading on reddit β‘So, I haven't bothered reading anything about capitalism outside of Marxists saying it's bad. And my understanding is that: it is bad. I don't really feel like reading more on it and although I'm not 100% sure how it works, I have some pretty insightful questions I think destoys capitalism.
Why are you evil? My moral framework says you're bad even though my moral framework was designed to morally discount capitalism, I believe that this is completely objective and you're bad people.
Why do you have to write so much? I mean, come on. I can't be arsed reading that. Render it down until you can fit it on a post it note please.
Why can't you all agree on every aspect of capitalism? Libertarians, ststists? Whst the hell is all this? Clearly it doesn't count as an ideology because you all disagree with each other.
Why can't you write an extensive apology for every death ever caused by capitalism? From my completely unbiased calculations, I came to the conclusion that capitalism kills 300 gorillion a year. You need to give me a full report on why this happened and how you'll avoid it please.
So, anyway, your ideology is destroyed! And no, I will not consider doing any research or looking at things from your perspective. I am simply here to gloat about my superiority.
Trickle-down Theory is supposed to be the idea that, by allowing wealthy people tax breaks, their wealth will then pass down to poorer people through their increased economic activity afforded by their greater wealth.
At least, it would be, were it not for the whole idea of a Trickle-down theory even existing as a seriously considered idea among any economists or policy makers simply being a strawman rebuttal to any suggestion that taxes be lowered.
As far as I am aware, no major politician or academic has ever directly mentioned 'trickle-down' as an ideal to move towards, or advocated lower tax rates solely on the justification of 'trickle-down'. The only groups that seriously discuss the idea are left or center wing groups using it as a strawman argument in opposition to groups that intend to lower taxes for a variety of different reasons.
Obama has famously said on Trickle Down 'It doesn't work, it has never worked" while completely forgetting the reality that trickle down has never been policy or even seriously advocated for.
Therefore, it is my view that 'Trickle-Down Theory' is just a stock left-wing phrase used in to denounce those who advocate lower taxes.

Try to not just define, argue the position as if you're in r/ChangeMyView. Anyone can define, it takes someone who's actually empathized with the other point of view to convey it persuasively. Cool responses so far.
I saw a video on youtube talking about US citizens being property and the word strawman kept popping up. Edit: I'm not talking about the strawman argument that's related to something else

A pseudolaw tax scam to brighten your morning. Still trying to work out how to explain the Freeman on the Land movement in less than 3000 words too.
Edit2: If you agree with me, cool. This post pretty much says that my current stance is universally held, as far as I can tell, so I'm looking for arguments from the other side. If you aren't making a good-faith argument proposing why it would be bad to make special rules and regulations for Congressional members, then why are you here, and why are you posting on this thread? I've already had to report like 10 comments on this thread for violating the sub's rules.
There has been enormous debate about the US members of Congress being permitted to trade stocks and bonds lately. I understand the arguments suggesting it should be prohibited, and those are extensive and thorough. In fact, they are so commonplace, both in the media in general as well as forums like Reddit, conversations day-to-day with friends, etc, that it seems almost to be a universally adopted view at this point. There is a STOCK Act, there's a statement from Speaker Pelosi as of yesterday (against it, yes), there are petitions including a White House petition, etc. It seems everywhere, now.
But seriously, I tend to be called "moderate" by friends even though I'm extremely liberal and progressive, and the reason I'm labeled that way is I often try to look out for unintended consequences, or at least learn some opposition theories.
So, change my mind that we should permit Members of Congress to trade stock? What are some problems with prohibition against it? Are there unintended consequences that people are ignoring?
Edit: I want to revise/update this post to clarify - I am talking about restrictions on Members of Congress which do not exist for laypersons.
I understand there's a lot of gray area here, but I would say: Members shouldn't be immune to Insider Trading laws, but I'm looking specifically for arguments that would allow members to trade stocks individually (and options, I guess?) as long as they don't violate Insider Trading laws, as per a regular citizen? Please don't paraphrase or rephrase my question into a strawman in your responses, either - I've already caught two people doing that, but if you want to clarify my question in your response, fire away!
TRIGGER WARNING, MILD ASSAULT. This is my very first post on Reddit ever, so please be gentle. Like most folks, I have family dysfunction and I need some opinions and advice on how to proceed.
I (39F) am the oldest of three. My sister (35F) and my brother (31M) grew up in household that was very "fend for yourselves" in a sense. We always had food and clothes and fun stuff- I mean fend for yourselves in an emotional sense. My parents claim the tough love concept but as I get older I see that they didn't have any emotional tools to teach us even if they wanted to. My sister and I made it out pretty good with good jobs, stable family life, a sense of community, etc. My brother didn't fare so well and is a longtime alcoholic. He finally has his own apartment but still relies on my parents for laundry use and rides to places.
For the past 5-6 years, my relationship with my parents has deteriorated tremendously. It mostly started when a certain celebrity decided he would make a good public servant and everyone lost their damn minds scrambling to pick a side. My parents fall for conspiracy theories, trust nothing on the news but believe everything their friends say, and blame the worlds problems on not enough people believing in Jesus. Luckily, I live 300 miles away and don't have to deal with them super often. However, my sister lives only 40 minutes from them and visits a lot more. She loves my parents, she feels like she owes them everything simply because they are her parents, and can easily blow off the snarky comments and crazy theories.
In 2019, I was visiting my parents house with my two kids and talking with my dad over dinner. Everyone else had left the table by then. He's going on and on about who's to blame for what he considers is a bankrupt society (spoiler, he says black people on welfare) and I'm debating him, gentle at first but growing more annoyed. My dad then gets up from the table, walks over to me and "stooge" slaps my face. He literally takes both of his hands and slaps me with them repeatedly. I freak out of course and kick him in the side of the leg to get him to stop. I'm shocked, I'm trembling, I'm mad as hell. I wish I could say I packed everything up and left but we were there for my sisters wedding that had not happened yet. My mom and sister agree that he is definitely wrong for doing that but can I just try to let it go for the sake of family? I try and I do let it go for the most part, but things will never

This could get long, sorry. TL;DR: I have trouble reading theory but feel like theres no other alternative that is taken seriously in anarchist discourse. Is this an actual issue that should be addressed (if so, how?) or do I just need to stop being stupid and "git gud" as I've been told.
I'm sure that for any of you who have existed in online anarchist spaces or participated in discourse, you are quite aware of the importance placed on being well-versed in theory that exists in these spaces. From a values based perspective, I do indeed believe that having knowledge of theory is important, especially for public figures and educators within anarchist circles.
However, my question comes from where my perspective drifts from theortical values into practice. Is this sort of extreme emphasis on being knowledgable about theory a possible issue in online left spaces?
I'll try to explain what I mean, but heres an example of a somewhat similar sentiment to that of which I'm reffering to: https://twitter.com/sophie_frm_mars/status/1479794877961580544?s=20 (this isn't intended to be hating on Sophie. I actually really love their content and they deserve heaps of love rn.)
I'm someone who has difficulty reading theory. Despite loving to read, I often have to read and reread paragraphs and chapters multiple times before I feel that I've actually understood anything. The langauge is often confusing and dry, and I usually end up with less an understanding of the topic and more of a feeling of being an idiot for not understanding something that everyone else seems to expect me to. So when I have people seemingly implying I have to have read 5 different hyper-long books on a topic in order to discuss it, it can be quite disheartening and frankly depressing. I can hardly imagine how those with dyslexia or learning disabilities might feel.
Yet again, I agree with the principle that being informed on a topic is of an utmost importance. But in leftist and anarchist circles, it can often seem like the only accepted source of knowledge is 1500 pages of dry theoretical jargon. Theory as we know it is frankly inaccessible, which in a community which claims to be of the people, seems awfuly incrongruent to me.
Are there any alternatives? I really want to learn and be knowledgable but I feel like I just can't. How can we have a grassroots movement lead by the working class and the oppressed if we have such high requirements held by some gatekeepers in the community? I

18 hours later edit: I want all of you to read the large comment strings I have with another user here. It's a perfect lesson in forum sliding tactics. From strawman's, deflections, introduction of new FUD, false brotherhood, alt accounts, and the outright denial of information. Please take note of the users recent comment history with AMC. Particularly how they frame their information outside of this post.
Instead of fighting them with insults I recommend fighting with facts. The information will speak for itself. You'll notice how the userπ is forced to regurgitate the same argumentative opinions. Enjoy!
I've been building this over the last few weeks as a resource for the community to combat FUD in the form of disinformation. I've chosen the 16 most common and controversial topics used in these campaigns against investors. These topics are twisted, flipped, and outright reenvisioned into farcical sound bites.
This is an ever expanding project of mine that will grow. The information is cut and dry. Too the point of allowing users to just copy and paste the information without a underlying narrative or bias allowing a quick and concise rebuttal with sources; of course. π
The fact of the matter is the truth will set us free.
So let it begin...

If just find it weird that so many people on YouTube think itβs content to make theory videos about the mystery of Dekuβs dad.
Itβs never been a plot point in the story. If it was revealed that deku had some special lineage through his fatherβs identity I think it would be take away from Dekuβs story entirely. I also would probably be a pretty lazy/ lame thing for Horikoshi to bring into the story.
But it begs the question, why are so many people interested in such an over done plot line?
Back in September 2019, Michael Burry predicted an index fund bubble. Since I invest index funds and write about them with relish, I was intrigued. But I quickly moved on.
Then another headline caught my eye. It was an episode of Odd Lots podcast titled, βWhy Passive Investing Might Be Distorting the Market.β I immediately listened to the episode, featuring investor and fund manager Mike Green. And then I listened again. Considering a lot of my net worth is currently tied up in index funds, I want to understand why some people think index funds are foolsβ gold.
So today, Iβm going to play devilβs advocate and talk about both sides of the conversation. Is there an index fund bubble? A market crash around the corner? Or is passive investing still the winning strategy itβs always been?
Below, youβll find compelling arguments from investors Mike Green and Michael Burry, who both say there is a bubble. Then Iβll follow up with comments from financial analyst Ben Carlson and portfolio manager Ben Felix, both of whom see no bubble . Itβs #TeamMike vs. #TeamBen. Iβll also pull some soundbites from Raoul Pal, a former hedge fund manager who now produces financial videos with a silky British accent. And then Iβll add in my own thoughts at the end.
An index fund owns a wide assortment of assets (e.g. stocks), and owns those assets in proportion to their market share. Uhβ¦thatβs a lot of FinSpeak. Letβs break it down.
For an example, letβs look at an S&P 500 index fund. An S&P 500 index fund would own all of the stocks in the S&P 500. Since Apple and Microsoft each make up about 5% of the S&P 500, this index fund would be comprised of about 5% Apple and 5% Microsoft. But Chipotle would only compose about 0.08% of the index, because itβs 0.08% of the S&P. In this way, the index fund is benchmarked to the S&P, like a shadow that follows all of the bodyβs movements.
Similarly, a βtotal stock market fundβ would own every stock in the market. There are tons of options in the index fund world.
Letβs get into the arguments that claim indexing is now in a bubble.
One of Mike Greenβs first points on Odd Lots is this: the original idea behind indexing is that active traders and actively managed funds will dictate how the market behaves, a

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

for full disclosure, the issue that we have with the JKR sub is not that they don't act fast enough, but we have observed a long-running discrepancy in their moderation that often platforms TERF-affirming posts featuring known transphobes disseminating outright transphobia, the most blatant being a video of Douglas Murray disparaging trans women, while continuously deplatforming and censoring trans-affirmative posts when they don't even break the rules. any posts that were trans affirmative were often swiftly removed for spamming and brigading when there was no evidence of such events taking place. the sub also has a huge presence of terfs and transphobes who are
