First freelance site - Spree Commerce RoR - thoughts?

Hi Guys,

Short time scroller first time poster. Started coding at the start of lockdown (late March here in the UK), first on Codecademy, then did a React Nanodegree with Udacity and found my way to Hartl's Rails tutorial. Reached out to a small business to offer to build an ecommerce site to assist with their business - pushed myself in the deep end to be honest but enough I felt I knew enough to start freelancing!

Let me know your thoughts: https://voyage-fromage-60583.herokuapp.com/

Modified Spree Commerce App. I have the .co.uk domain but not pushing until the client is ready.

If you're still reading (thanks), an eye on my portfolio site would be great! https://www.badenashford.me

Cheers!!

Spree Commerce Help

Hi There,

Trying out Spree Commerce and having trouble rendering editted templates in my app/views/spree directory. I am able to override templates in Solidus by recreating them in app/views/spree but it doesn't seem to work in Spree.

Anyone experienced this issue?

Rails 6.0.3 & Spree 4.1

Thank you in advance!

E-commerce library (Spree/Solidus) vs custom implementation for customer portal?

Hey guys. I'm a fairly experienced Rails dev, but unfortunately don't have a ton of experience in the e-commerce realm. My next project will include a customer portal where customers can request/pay for a service (being intentionally vague here, the service itself doesn't matter), or subscribe to this service on an ongoing basis.

So I'm trying to decide between the two main options I see:

- use an e-commerce library (mostly been looking into Spree/Solidus) and customize from there

- build it from scratch and incorporate something like Stripe for payment processing/handling subscriptions (stripe billing looks to be what I'd use for the latter)

I'm leaning toward the second option because, from what I've seen, Solidus seems mostly geared toward a "storefront"... Lists of products, product search, shopping cart, checkout, that sort of thing. And that's not really what I need to build. Its a paid service that you either request one time, or on an ongoing basis, but I wont be needing a lot of the features that Solidus provides. I do see that there are a lot of extensions for various things, including stripe, so maybe those would save me some time down the road? But fundamentally, if I'm having to setup the payment processing anyways, I'm not seeing the value of using a storefront focused library.

Any thoughts/advice is appreciated!

Is Spree Commerce still relevant way if I want to develop E-Commerce?

I'll be working on building an e-commerce website in a couple of weeks. I've been evaluating my options for building an e-commerce platform. As far as what I can find, Spree Commerce & Solidus are the only two options can be used to build an e-commerce platform in Ruby on Rails ecosystem. I'm open for non Ruby specific options or third party services as well. I've been evaluating Shopify as well to a certain point.

Currently, I'm in a dilemma of "should I use some open source solution & build on top of it?" or "Should I go with a third party service & just roll my own UI on top of their API". Either ways, I do have to spent a lot of time learning & customising them to the fullest.

Anyone faced a similar situation can share their experiences?

Need to build a E-commerce, should I use Spree or Solidus?

I'm prospecting a e-commerce project, has anyone recently built or work in one? I've checked both but I'm still in doubt, what is better today the original Spree or the fork Solidus?

I'm from Brazil , and probably will have to build a plugin for brazilians payment gateways.

Thanks, any opinion is valid.

What's the best way to run a btc first / only webshop right now? Looks like OpenBazaar is not ready for action yet, any other opensource projects like spree commerce that are viable?

If someone wanted to set up a no hassles webshop to sell good old tangible consumer goods and price them in the backend in dollars, but have them priced consumer facing only (or primarily) in btc, with the option to receive btc payments in an xpub key or if needed a percentage to a processor. Is Spree commerce the solution to go? Looks like coinbase has a plugin for them (I think BitPay does too, but I don't like there forever = 30 approach).

Are there other webshops to be considered? Any ideas when OpenBazaar goes live? Thanks !!
