Do your worst!
----
The first half of the next day went by in a flash for Chris. Ayla had indeed stopped by for breakfast, after eating they went to one of the higher leveled training grounds, where they met up with Seafy. Chris was trying to get the hang of several new spells, chiefly shadow magic spells that he hadnβt mastered at their last meeting, so Seafy instructed him for most of the time they trained. He couldnβt figure out why, but they seemed to be harder to master than the other shadow spells he had learned so far. Though he did admit to himself that he wasnβt overly interested in them as compared to the others, a possible cause for the slow progress.
Regardless of the difficulty, they trained until lunch time. Wanting to get some sword practice in, Chris bid them farewell after eating lunch together and made his way over to the temple. He entered the arena just as Grudge caught a flurry of blows with his shield from an acolyte, while Vorgak observed from the side.
βGood. Dwarf, a shield was the right choice. Your people are hardy and your arms are like forged iron. Even a heavy heater shield would not tire you as quickly, allowing you greater protection. Though its size may be too gangly for you. You said you used a round shield before, correct? When you are done, switch out for a round shield, and Iβll compare how you handle them.β, Vorgak lectured.
Grudge fought on, blocking blow after blow, and even occasionally letting one loose himself. But like Vorgak said, the large heater shield was too big for Grudge, it was made for an elf after all. It restricted his movements and range of attack, coupled with the superior skill of his sparring partner, he was struck dead a minute or so later.
Vorgak nodded as if he expected this. βSwitch out for the round shield now. In the meantime, I will start on the champion, rest and observe.β, he said. Vorgak had never turned around, but somehow, he knew Chris was there, lurking in the back of the arena watching.
Having been found out, Chris took the sword he used yesterday, as well as a wooden heater shield from the wall, and approached Vorgak. βSo, how different is fighting with a shield, versus just a sword?β, he asked as he walked in front of

PLAYS: 10+
WHY DID I KEEP IT: The deduction is unique and allows interaction through bluffing and is satisfying to get right.
The theme is delightful, with fun thematic explanations for mechanisms in the rulebook.
CRITICISM: I've had people who just do not understand how the deduction works.
The worker placement is not the draw of the game, and yet, some parts feel needlessly intricate.
I don't like apps.
PLAYS: 20+
WHY DID I KEEP IT: By keeping the rules straightforward, it makes it accessible even to non-gamers. There's constant interaction with players having to pay more to build in other players' areas and being able to leech off other players' resource gathering actions.
Gaining more cards and occupying more areas gives a growing feeling of accomplishment. While at the beginning of the game you may struggle to generate a single resource, by the end you're drowning in them!
CRITICISM: It's a by-the-numbers Euro game, just done well.
PLAYS: 2
WHY DID I KEEP IT: Same reason as Gaia Project, it's similar enough to another game I love that it's almost like buying an expansion. The increased focus on negotiation puts and interesting spin on things and I like that the asymmetric powers are more involved.
Plus, there's some nice gender inclusivity, a rarity for these sort of games. There's monstrous women like The Mistress, Kyger Litor and The Mother of Monsters, a scarred woman in Sedenya, and even a genderfluid character with Androgeus.
Some won't like the breasts on display in some of the expansion content. I find it comes across quite naturally. It evokes a sense of uncanny valley with the attacking Maidstone Archer, as they're distinctly non-human, and a sense of power wi

Pilot on me!!
Maurice Chevalier awaited me to do his bidding. To kill those whoβd killed my brother, to satisfy the hunger of him and his family, and to become the caretaker of darkness. It was the last thing I wanted to do. The last thing I wanted to be.
βLet me say goodbye to my brother first.β
Maurice eyed me for a moment without speaking, then stepped aside. Josh was cold and lifeless when I embraced him for the last time. I leaned to his ear and whispered my final goodbye and then discreetly removed a lighter from his coat pocket.
βIβll get you Eloise and Charles,β I told Maurice.
βAnd then?β
βThen, more.β
Maurice smirked ever so slightly, then held out his hand for me to leave the mausoleum and continue forth with the task. The horde of bloodthirsty vampires watched with disappointment as a potential meal was permitted to leave. Their breath was cold against my neck as I made my way through and back to the dark tunnel, which I followed to the pit in which the wire remained hanging from the conduit above. Entries to different tunnels surrounded the holeβother families at the ends of each.
I gripped the thin-gauge wire and tugged at it. Iβm not heavy, per se, but the likelihood of either the wire or the conduit it was tied to holding my weight, was slim. But, I had no other option.
The wire stretched as my feet lifted from the dirt and the conduit creaked, the screws beginning to separate from the old wooden joists. I struggled to grip the thin wire and was forced to have to wrap it around my hands and pull, then unwrap them long enough to reach up and grab more. Thankfully, I did not have far to climb and managed to grab ahold of the edge and heave myself into the crawlspace.
I had to get above, find Eloise and Charles, and kill them. I had to do it not for the vampires but for Josh.
For my thirst for revenge.
For justice.
I pulled the wire cutters from my pocket and began chipping away at one of the joists. The aged wood broke away easily, and I was able to carry a cluster of hand-sized pieces over to the small hole that we had drilled into the floor earlier that day. I set the pile of wood shards on the ground beneath the small hole, then hurried around the crawlspace, searching, and ultimately finding next to the door s

Is it a genie who will teach a few moral lessons to our hero? Some literal or metaphorical deal with the devil? Or did our hero find a little MacGuffin that holds a little hidden trick?
Either way, granting wishes usually comes with a price. In that regard, I thought Wonder Woman 1984 had something going for it regarding the Dreamstone. In a more serious, less absurdly campy Wonder Woman film, I think a villain like Maxwell Lord could have been a more serious threat given such immense power. Furthermore, such use of magic could have also made room for a more well-known, classic Wonder Woman villain. One who's all about magic.
Let's return to my ongoing reimagining of the DCEU, set against the backdrop of the 90s and 2000s, and finish the Wonder Woman trilogy.
Gonna be a long post, this one.

But Trazyn who lived on nearby Solemnace did not.
Trazyn hated Christmas! The whole season of giving!
He hated such waste even when he was living!
It could be, perhaps, that his screws were too tight,
It could be that a pet scarab gave him a bite,
But I think the most likely reason of all,
Is that he wants everything to float in his hall.
Scarab or greed, whatever the reason,
Trazyn stood on Solemnace loathing The Season.
Staring up from his Tomb World at neighboring Gheden,
Scowling, picturing the gifts that theyβd be getting.
He knew the the acanthrites were busy as Necrons sleep,
Hanging Gauss Tinsel and applying festive Rad Wreaths
Every Necron on Gheden, the whole bloody system,
Would wake up to Gauss guns, pet scarabs, and even Gloom Prisms
He frowned on his floating throne softly thrumming
βI must find some way to keep Christmas from coming!β
βFor soon theyβll rise in the Great Awakening
Gifts from sixty-five million Christmases piled up for the taking!
And then, all the noise, the end to my silence!
Noise! Noise! Noise! Iβll hear it on even Solemnace!β
Canoptek Constructs caroling with Christmas alarms ringing,
Theyβll swarm to formation and then theyβll start SINGING!
The singing of Canoptek canβt be put to the pen
For this part youβll just have to pause and imagine
βAnd theyβll sing and theyβll sing and theyβll sing some more!
I canβt put up with Christmas another year more!
For near sixty-five million years Iβve had to endured it now!
I have to stop Christmas from coming! But how?β
Then he got an idea! An awful idea!
Trazyn got a wonderful, awful idea!
βIβve got a good planβ Trazyn said with a laugh.
And he hijacked a Nihilakh Cryptek, body, mind, and staff.
He mechanically clucked βTruly Iβm clever.β
βWith this Christmas on Gheden is over foreverβ
Trazyn looked through his halls βNow all I need is acanthritesβ¦β
But these uncommon constructs donβt work at his site.
Undeterred, he stated aloud to himself,
βIf I donβt have acanthrites, Iβll make some myself.β
He rounded up scarabs, and chained them in threes,
He affixed them with wings, stingers, all the makings of bees.
Then he grabbed a Night Scythe, his cruiser canβt go

For the last year or so I had been hearing a lot more about 200+ mile races, and after watching many great videos on YouTube/Vimeo, I came to the conclusion that this was a different ultra running experience compared to 100 miles. I was intrigued, but not yet willing to pull the trigger on a race. Whilst back in the UK for Christmas I mentioned the idea to Sam. After a bit of discussion, he said if I signed up, he would crew. This was the extra bit of motivation that I needed, and over a New Year's catch-up beer with friends, I decided to pull the trigger!
A few months prior, I had completed Yeti 100 (September 2020), and subsequently attempted an FKT in San Diego. Unfortunately this resulted in a tweaked knee, which meant a couple of months of light running. Thankfully, the knee pain subsided after this period. Post the resolution of the knee pain, I began a structured plan incorporating 3 days a week of strength training and a gradual ramp-up to about 60 miles (100km)/week of running.
Whilst Moab was my A-race of 2021, I also had a mile and marathon running goal. To achieve these goals I first focused on building a base and then hit a mixture of speed sessions and long runs. Things were going very well and I was starting to feel the strongest I had ever felt, which was great.
Just as the plan was coming together, bad luck struck. Whilst doing a 10km run with 1km fast-floats (5min/mile pace), an obstacle unexpectedly veered into my path. I had to abruptly correct course but as I stepped off the curb onto the road, I tweaked my left calf muscle. At first, I thought it was just a leg spasm, but that didn't feel quite right. After standing around waiting for the pain to subside, I decided to abandon the run. I jumped on a scooter, went home, and arranged to see a physical therapist. Unfortunately, the injury was a strain of the soleus muscle, I would say between a grade 1 and 2. This happened on June 14, which gave me around 4 months to recover an
