How will the Biden Administration deal with special counsel John Durham's investigation the origins of the FBI’s probe of Russian interference in the 2016 election?

You may recall that in 2019 Durham was tapped to lead an investigation into Obama Administration era policies surrounding the surveillance of the Trump Campaign in 2016 and the origins of the "Russiagate" scandal.

And now the announcement today that Barr has made Durham a special council: https://www.politico.com/news/2020/12/01/william-barr-john-durham-special-counsel-russia-441872

>Attorney General William Barr has appointed U.S. attorney John Durham as a special counsel to investigate the origins of the FBI’s probe of Russian interference in the 2016 election.

>The appointment formalizes Durham’s ongoing probe, but more significantly, would give Durham latitude to continue the politically explosive investigation after President-elect Joe Biden takes office in January.

So immediately the Mueller Investigation came to mind, and I wondered what ways the Biden/Harris administration will deal with this new special council. Will the Biden administration try to end it? Will they allow it to go on, like Trump did the Mueller investigation? Will it result in charges beyond the first guilty plea that came out of the Durham investigation: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/durham-probe-ex-fbi-lawyer-to-plead-guilty-in-first-criminal-case-arising-from-review-attorney-says >Durham probe: Ex-FBI lawyer to plead guilty in first criminal case arising from review, sources say

What legal ramifications would come from the Biden administration trying to stop this special council? What political ramifications? What political and legal ramifications would there be to allow it to continue?

I’m Norm Eisen, President Obama’s former ethics guru and ambassador to the Czech Republic. I wrote a book about my recent experience as special counsel to the Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee during the impeachment investigation and trial of President Trump. Ask me anything.

I recently acted as special counsel to the Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee from 2019 to 2020, including for the impeachment and trial of President Donald J. Trump. I previously served as ethics czar for President Obama and then as his ambassador to the Czech Republic. A Case for the American People: The United States vs. Donald J. Trump is my third book.

In A Case for the American People, I lay out President Trump’s shocking pattern of betrayals, lies, and high crimes, arguing the articles of impeachment to the ultimate judges: the American people.

I will take you behind the scenes of the impeachment trial. You will read the ten proposed articles of impeachment, not just the two that were publicly tried. Since taking the oath of office, Donald Trump has been on a spree of high crimes and misdemeanors, using the awesome power of the presidency for his own personal gain, at the expense of the American people. He has inflamed our divisions for his electoral benefit, with flagrant disregard for the Constitution that makes us America. Each step of the way, he has lied incessantly, including to cover up his crimes. And yet he remains in the country’s highest office.

I look forward to answering your questions about the book, my work on the House Judiciary Committee, and the future of our country. You can read more about my work on my website, or by following me on Twitter.

[EVENT] The Conclusion of the Special Counsel Investigation

The United States of America,
February, 2019

The Conclusion of the Special Counsel’s Investigation

On May 9, 2017, President Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey. Mr. Comey had been overseeing the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, including possible collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign. The FBI was also investigating former National Security Advisor and Trump campaign adviser Michael Flynn, who failed to disclose communications with Russian officials and reportedly lied to Vice President Mike Pence about those communications.

On the 7th of July, 2017, Acting Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein set in motion a chain of political events that would captivate the national consciousness of the United States, capturing the spotlight like only once before in political history. With Order no. 3915-2017, Mr. Rosenstein declared:

> *”By virtue of the authority vested in me as Acting Attorney General, including 28 U.S.C. §§ 509, 510, and 515, in order to discharge my responsibility to provide supervision and management of the Department of Justice, and to ensure a full and thorough investigation of the Russian govemmenfs efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election, I hereby order as follows: ... Robert S. Mueller III is appointed to serve as Special Counsel for the United States Department of Justice ... ”

However, by late summer 2017, President Trump’s firing of James Comey and the subsequent revelations about President Trump’s earlier exchanges with Comey while he was FBI Director raise the question of whether President Trump obstructed justice by endeavoring to impede those investigations. In August, press reports began filtering out, and indicated that Special Counsel Robert Mueller was indeed investigating the very question of whether President Trump obstructed justice.

Conclusions of the Investigation into Obstruction

In January 2019, after an exhaustive and protracted internal review of evidence gathered during the 2017-2018 phase, Special Council Mueller appeared before the executive officers of the Department of Justice to submit his findings. The Counsel found no additional charges to bring forward regarding the special mandate of election interference by the Russian Federation - those having been indicted already - or additional collusion into said investigation.

However, the report cited an exha

A special counsel, appointed by the United States Attorney General should investigate every inch of this case.

There’s enough probable cause to warrant a special counsel investigation, if the Civil Rights Division really cared they would of looked into this case long ago. The Wisconsin AG, District Attorney, Kratz, Sheriffs office, Brendans high school, and everyone involved should be heavily scrutinized and even prosecuted under federal statues. The lack of independent investigation into this is mind blowing.

But of course this is unlikely to happen, well because politics ruins everything. πŸ™„
