A list of puns related to "Slovaks in Hungary"
Hello AskHistorians, I've checked your excellent book list but sadly it doesn't seem to have anything dealing with my corner of the world.
I am looking for good books on history of Slovaks and also Kingdom of Hungary. Where Hungary is concerned I primarily want its history during medieval era. Mostly I am interested in Slovaks though.
Secondly I am interested in one that deals with Austrian empire and Austria-Hungary specifically I am interested in internal tensions and conflict between ethnicities and society and culuture of that time and place.
And last thing is regarding Czechoslovakia likewise I would like book or books that would give insight on its internal politics and society from its creation to its dissolution.
If you can recommend ones written by Slovak that would be even better.
Thanks.
I know that we are all busy celebrating Biden's amazing comeback, but another important election took place yesterday: the Slovak parliamentary election. With the results counted, the most neoliberal party (coalition), PS/SPOLU, achieved 6.97%. The electoral threshold is 5% for single parties and 7% for coalitions. This means it will gain 0 seats in parliament. The same thing happened in Poland in 2015 when United Left received 7.55%, but failed to cross the 8% Polish threshold for coalitions, which resulted in national-conservative PiS gaining the majority of seats with just 37.58% of votes (their majority then resulted in destruction of democracy and rule of law in Poland, just like in Hungary under Orban).
The overall results are better in Slovakia then they were in Poland in 2015. The populist Social Democrats, which are very different from west european succs and more in line with national conservative PiS in Poland, suffered a huge loss. A centre-right populist party won with 25%, and a centre right coalition is not only possible, but very likely. The neo-fascist party underperformed compared to opinion polls, but still received 8% of the vote, with another anti-immigrant populist (but not outright fascist) party also receiving 8%.
Overall, the results dealt a blow to the Visegrad 4 alliance, leaving Poland and Hungary without a reliable ally they used to count on. Their Czech ally PM BabiΕ‘ is also currently under investigation by the EU for appropriating EU funds, and if found guilty, Polish and Hungarian power in the EU will be weakend. However, the failiure of PS/SPOLU to win seats brings tears to my eyes. Not long ago, it seemed like Slovakia was making a big turn towards liberalism with the election of the PS candidate Zuzana Δaputova as President. Tonight's results show that it's just not there yet.
Or it is not common that children eat this type of food during their lunch?

heyooo my slovak grandmother recently passed away and i'm planning on getting a tattoo in honor of her. i just want it to say "goodbye strong woman" in slovak and i wanna make sure i'm not botching the translation before getting it permanently needled into me. this seemed like a good community to check in with! i'm pretty sure its supposed to be "zbohom silnΓ‘ ΕΎena" but i just wanna make sure. if 1 or a couple of y'all could give me a confirmation on this that would be god damn spicy thank you <3
I know it's likely left over from earlier in the game's life, but it isn't really needed now.
Currently theyre in the Carpathian group, the most mix-matched one that includes Slovak, Hungarian, Transylvanian and Romanian. I can kinda understand just grouping those last 3 together, like putting Finnish into the Scandinavian group, for simplicity. But at the game's start, Hungary holds all Slovak provinces, and they're accepted. Which means they won't convert culture there anyway, even if the same group penalty wasn't enough to deter them.
But I've seen many times a strong Bohemia taking most or all of Slovakia, and then converting it to Czech, cause its in a different culture group. Just doesn't make much sense.
