Anyone who grew up in the CRT era of TVs remembers that you had to turn the channel to 3 before you turned on the VCR or game console. Otherwise, the picture would not work. Why was this so necessary?

Coming from the UK we have at least 5-6 very good channels. Do all Australians pay for premium channels or streaming services? Is that why the content on Aussie TV is so terrible?

I am watching some "news channel" program online, and I see that almost 75% of the screen is covered with things that has nothing to do with the program being broadcast! The actual content is shown in only 25% of the screen. What type of design and presentation qualification do people at these "news channels" have?
Edit: BTW, I must also add about the level of incompetence in the department of background music(noise!) and the tone of narration! This actually is pathetic and ruins a important and good subject that these incompetent people cover!
No one would watch. Which is happening to everyone who is watching twitch. Numbers are plummeting. No one in their right mind should have to watch an ad EVERY TIME they switch. I'm honestly back to just watching shows. Fuck this garbage. Anyone else feel the same?
This might be old news, but its new to me. The production value isn't the best, but imaging each episode as a microfiction makes it better.
