That was when I realized I’d left my phone on Airplane mode.

I mean we all now that the primare usage of Siri is to set a timer for pasta because anything else is way to complicated and mostly results in a web search we don’t ask for. Alexa is way smarter in my opinion and I see no reason why apple can’t do better.

Fed up on the daily with the increasingly short staffing, annoying irresponsible patients either coming in exposing everyone to their febrile 3 day COVID with a positive test in hand asking for a work note or coming to urgent care to “get the doctor to check my chronic abdominal pain is ok today” (real case I had on Sunday). It’s 11:30 and I still have personal chores to do and yet there are 50 messages I have to do, oldest of which is 8 days old because the nursing staff can’t release them fast enough due to MORE DAMN STAFFING ISSUES

Lord give me the patience not to rage quit today.

So here I lie awake at 4:27 AM and can’t get back to sleep because Siri interpreted “set a timer for twenty minutes” as “wake me up at 4 AM”.

The only thing I use Siri for these days is to set a timer during cooking, and it seems like she can’t understand me at all any more. It takes 4-7 tries before she gets it right. Sometimes she doesn’t understand me at all, other times she sets random alarms, other times she searches for odd things, but mostly she gets the number of minutes wrong and I have to keep trying until she gets it right.

Anyone else notice this behavior?

Anyone else constantly disappointed with Siri? It has barely improved years. Apple is a trillion dollar company, and i can’t even turn on basic phone features like mobile hotspot with Siri. It’s basically good for setting a timer and sending a text.

I’m Swedish and fluent in both Swedish and English. Siri handles English better, and some features are only available when set to English.

So I set it to English. Now I can play songs on Spotify with English titles, and I can control my smart home. Then someone texts me in Swedish and Siri starts reading it, and you can’t understand a word. Nor can I respond in Swedish.

So I set Siri to Swedish. Now the calendar reads stuff correctly, texts are read correctly… until someone texts me in English. And I can’t play any Spotify songs unless they have Swedish titles.

And so it goes…

I remember using googles voice assistant and it switched between languages depending on what language you spoke in.

How come Siri doesn’t? And how do you handle it?
