In 2004, I flew from Australia to San Francisco to see the original four members of Black Sabbath play at Ozzfest. I literally blew all my money as a poor student working full time night shift to experience this. This was the first of twelve times seeing the band perform (including the final show), not including seeing Heaven & Hell too.
I had a film camera, but cameras weren’t allowed, so I stupidly left it at my hostel. There’s a gettyimages album of the day, but no shots of Sabbath. And there were so many photographers, I’m amazed by the lack of photos online (I’ve searched for years).
I would LOVE a photo/scan of the poster like the one attached for this day, so that I could blow it up and have it on my wall. I had a copy, but that and my ticket stub were destroyed by water in 2005. Poor student, didn’t have a decent filing system etc…..
Any chance anyone kept theirs? Or had any photos of the show/crowd? It kills me that i didn't smuggle a camera in.

Howdy folks! This is the last post-Jerry show of my project, as I figured I would end things on an even ten. Always happy to discuss this stuff further with anyone and swap recommendations. I know I covered a 2009 show a few weeks ago, but I thought this booming Shoreline show would be a perfect way to go out. Not too many jaw-dropping setlist choices here. It’s just an all-hands-on-deck hometown show with the core four, Haynes, and Chimenti honorably treating the Bay Area to a heartfelt performance stacked with fan favorites and an incendiary triple encore.
Set 1: Help On the Way > Slipknot! > Franklin’s Tower, Good Lovin’, Cassidy, Bird Song > Uncle John’s Band
Set 2: Unbroken Chain > The Other One > Drums > Space > Sugaree, Gimme Shelter > Sugar Magnolia
E: St. Stephen > The Eleven > Touch of Grey
It doesn’t look like a lot of songs, but they jam everything out to the max (check out the mammoth 18-minute Bird Song) and provided 3.5 hours of music. I won’t go into details, since I’d be here all day, and I’d rather have the music speak for itself for a change. There’s a few solid tapes to choose from. Parking lot footage and an audible (but not distracting) hum of crowd activity in the recordings suggest an electric atmosphere, and the boys rose to the occasion of this being the first of two California stops on the huge ‘09 tour. Thanks to those who dropped in over the past 10 weeks to humor my endless ramblings. The Grateful Dead gave us an enormous sea of music to wade through, but I would urge any deadhead to keep an open mind and give a fair chance to some of the music that’s been played since 1995, as on occasion, a lot of it drives these old songs in directions just as jaw-dropping as they were back in Jerry’s heyday.
