Chu & Miranda β€œshell-shocked” for Warner Bros decision of releasing In The Heights in theaters and on streaming on the same day

After the news of the release on the same day in theaters and on streaming of every Warner Bros movie in 2021, The Hollywood Reporter run an article about the reactions to the news. Accoding to the article the In The Heights team wasn't happy about it.

>According to a source, Emmerich tried to soothe In the Heights director Jon M. Chu by pointing out that the movie was still getting a β€œglobal theatrical release.” But industry insiders say the studio is pretending that pirates won’t pounce as soon as these films are streaming on HBO Max. As soon as one does, there's an β€œexcellent version of the movie everywhere immediately,” notes one industry veteran.
>
>
>
>And then there’s the talent. Dune director Denis Villeneuve is said to be among those who felt most strongly that a traditional big-screen release was essential for his film. Chu, who along with Lin-Manuel Miranda went through an intense courtship with multiple suitors for In the Heights and who had turned down a huge Netflix offer for Crazy Rich Asians because he cherishes the communal theatrical experience, told an associate he was β€œshell-shocked” after being informed of the Warners decision.

I made my boss over $1.5 million in commission over two years, while I made $45k/year. For Christmas he got me a $25 gift card to a movie theater chain that I would have to drive to another state to even use. When I put in my two week notice, he called legal on me while I sat in his office.

I worked my ass off for this man, essentially running his entire book of business for him. For Christmas he got me a $25 AMC gift card. The closest AMC theater is 1.5hrs away in another state. That pissed me off and made me start looking for other jobs. I genuinely cared about my job and the account, so I waited to accept a job offer until I had trained someone else to do my job. When the time came, I met him in his office and told him that I had accepted another job and that I was putting in my notice, but to not worry because I have someone already trained. When I told him that I had accepted a position with another company in our field but would not be doing the same thing so it wouldn’t violate my non-compete, he called our chief legal office on speaker phone while I sat there. The CLO tells me that β€œI cannot even mop floors at a company in our field for at least a year”. The CLO adds HR to the call and HR tells me that since I won’t be pursuing my new job, they are going to let me work 2 more weeks to make sure the handoff goes smoothly and then I will be fired for looking for other jobs.

They asked me for more details as to what I would be doing at my new job, and I told them I wasn’t going to discuss it. After I left, the CLO of this company (a company who brings in $6 BILLION/year in revenue) called me randomly for the next few weeks trying to intimidate me. They even started contacting my new employer. Luckily, I don’t work for a shitty company now and the CEO got involved and told them that they would be ready to fight this in court. They stopped contacting me after that, which meant they never even planed in taking me to court. They just wanted to scare me into quitting my new job.

Fuck companies like this. We don’t have to put up with this shit anymore

Company is Total Quality Logistics.

Edit: this was 3 years ago. I’m with the same company that I left my previous job for, and they have given me the budget to start a division of the company that directly competes with my previous employer πŸ€— I still have that AMC gift card too.

I’ll go ahead and address some of the questions I keep getting asked:

Why did you stay if you were so underpaid for your performance? Because I was fresh out of college and dumb.

Why did you tell them where you were going? Because I was fresh out of college and dumb.

Why did you even give them a two week notice, why didnt you walk out? Because the people who I actually cared about at that job would be the one

Marilyn Manson Audiophile Theater III: Hooray for Holy Wood

It's the third and final beast: the last edition of MM Audiophile Theater. My house is buried under 26" of snow and all I can do to keep warm is bask in the soothing, comforting glow of one of my favorite listening experiences: Marilyn Manson's Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death), 2xLP released November 11, 2000.

PART 1: THIS IS EVOLUTION

Returning to our continuing theme of "Manson as a 'musical cinematographer'", I believe that the sound of Holy Wood is the direct result of Manson's admitted disappointment with the production and sound of Mechanical Animals. I was originally perplexed by this thinking; MA is one of the best sounding albums of the 1990s. After comparing Antichrist Superstar with Mechanical Animals in the previous episodes, though, it became clear that Marilyn favors a more cinematic, fantastical approach to sound. Sure, the music should sound good, but the atmosphere is just as important - if not more so. The spaces in which each song takes place are one of the most heavily used colors on Manson's palette.

I think the clearest example of this is simply how each of the triptych albums begins: Mechanical Animals jumps immediately into the music, while Antichrist Superstar and Holy Wood first take time to set a scene through sound design. Antichrist is a modern classic atmospheric art piece. Mechanical Animals sounds stunning as Marilyn Manson's own delicious flavor of the big-time golden age Los Angeles studio record - a perfect thematic fit for that album, but it's a less cinematic ambience and more a traditional studio ambience. However, it's Holy Wood that draws the two concepts together: an immersive sonic stage play dripping with palpable atmosphere, while also taking paying homage to classic recording and production styles to a near anarchic extreme while still creatively using and abusing the cutting edge of technology. It's Holy Wood in particular that shows Manson at his most cinematic, carefully framing his shots and once again making full use of depth, colors, and spaces. As long as you're not listening to the severely dynamic-range-limited digital releases, its sound is utterly timeless.

All three of the triptych albums exhibit this mix of classic and cutting-edge production styles and methods, but Holy Wood shows the boldest and daring sonic choices. It's dark and it's heavy, but it's disarmingly delicate as well: while each individual instrument is gorgeously saturated, the mix itself is relatively clean
