I'm a pretty knowledgable guy, a middle-aged tech executive, who's been reading about psychedelics and ketamine for over 35 years. I experimented a lot with psychedelics as a teenager, stopping as an adult, and recently started getting ketamine IV infusions for depression. And before I do anything in life, I research it extensively, reading all the current literature on the topic - as I did recently on ketamine. At the ketamine clinic I go to, the doctor, the nurse practitioners, and nurses all seem to respect & admire my knowledge on the topic, and have many times commented how Iβm more knowledgeable than their other patients. I share this preface only to say, I'm not an idiot.
When I first interviewed my ketamine doctor, I asked if he had a protocol for when a patient was having a bad experience, and he said, yes: the patient signals to the staff that they're having a bad experience by removing their pulse oximeter, and the staff will then administer versed. That sounded reasonable enough.
I generally do very well at βnavigatingβ the ketamine experience, using tools like βTrust, Let Go, Be Onβ, classics in psychedelic research. But sometimes things can go wrong due to set, setting, dose, etc.
I was gradually increasing dosages over my sessions, and on my six session I quickly started to have a very bad experience - but I had a vague awareness that if I took off this thing from my finger (the pulse oximeter) things would get better. I resisted at first, trying to ride it out, but then pulled it off. The experience continued to be very difficult through the rest of the session and when I came to, I found the pulse oximeter on my finger! So I asked about it was told, βOh, you removed it so we put it back on.β And they hadnβt administered the versed as they stated they would. So much for the protocol.
So I spoke to the doctor again about the protocol and emphasized, if I take off the pulse oximeter, administer versed, to which he agreed. For every session afterwards, I reminded the doctor, the nurse practitioner, the nurse - essentially everyone caring for me - of the protocol. And they reassured me they knew the drill.
I continued to gradually increase dosages over my sessions, and on my twelfth session tonight - after reminding the doc, np and nurse of the protocol again - I had a bad session. I wasnβt far into the session, because I always use the same playlist and know where in time Iβm at based on the music. I decided to remove the pulse oximet

Watching the pairs practice session for SkAm on Peacock right now, and HAD to join to ask this question:
Are there any rules during practice sessions and warm ups around the direction of skating, changing directions, executing jumps in a certain spot of the rink?
Thinking of all the collisions that happened during warm ups for the major competitions: Yuzuru during 2014 China Cup warm up comes to mind as well as the famous crash during pairs warm up for the long in the 2002 Olympics.
Is there a way to prevent these?
