Throwback! I snapped an βillegalβ picture of a wrecked McLaren Mercedes when there was an exhibition at the London Science Museum. This was July 2009, so probably Mikaβs 2000 car.

TIL that in 2011, a 61 year old British taxi driver donated his body to science in order to be mummifiedβto help scientists learn more about the process. It was a great success and Alan the mummy now lies in the Gordon Museum of Pathology at Kingβs College London.

Only after seeing the film in the London Science Museum did I realise...
that the movie goes full screen for all of the action shots and then goes back to having the black bars straight after!
I thought it might have been a special thing for that screening... Got home, watched my Blu-Ray copy and it done the same! How did I not realise after about 20 watches!

Few things from the Science Museumβs Science of Formula 1 event in London with James Allison of Mercedes
-
Mercedes know βexactlyβ what was wrong with the car in Mexico, and it was apparently a frustratingly easy fix that could have been made. There wasnβt any indication this was the lack of the wheel cooling mechanism, and it didnβt appear that thatβs what he was suggesting, but then again he didnβt say it wasnβt.
-
He openly admitted they were awful in Mexico, and revealed that Hamilton was devastated afterwards because of how badly they went, despite taking the WDC.
-
Allison strongly thinks that moveable aero devices should be brought back, specifically rotary fans (yes, like the fan car) that can be deployed using the battery in order to negate the loss of downforce induced by closely following another car.
-
Formula 1 will inevitably go electric according to him, itβs just a matter of how that happens and progresses.
-
The new 18inch wheel rims require a complete redesign of the car (understandably).
-
Plans for & development of the 2020 car have already begun.
-
F1 steering wheels are bloody light. He had one and at the end we got a chance to hold it & have a pic, which was awesome.
All in all, it was super interesting, and the two other speakers were Annastiina Hintsa from a human performance firm (Rosberg mentioned her father, the founder of the company, in the Beyond the Grid podcast) and the other was Karl Surmacz from McLaren applied technologies (data side of things).
