In spite of its genetic homogeneity, Sardinia is a mish-mash of languages and dialects (Catalan, Ligurian, Corsican, and Sardinian). What if it was even more diverse?

Could anyone help me translate a few sentences into Sardinian? (Also, is there anyone who could teach me the language?)

So I have two things. Firstly, couple of sentences that I’d like to have translated into Sardinian. Secondly, I’d love to learn it! I’m pretty good at Italian (b2) and I’d love to dive into a new language. Id be happy to pay a tutor, I’m just struggling to find one.

Does anyone want to help me out? Thanks!

Linguistic fun fact of the day: Sardinian is the most conservative romance language

Called a poor imitation of latin by Dante, Sardinia's isolated nature might be the reason for its language's high level of conservatism. Sardinia is an island south of corsica and west of mainland italy that has historically not been host to many invasions compared to Spain, France or Italy. It was originally in the possession of Spain but is now owned by italy where the language is recognized and protected.

It is thought that it was the romance language that split off first from Latin and that it might be connected to the now lost African romance languages. This explains the many features it has that it does not share with the other romance languages:

One striking feature of sardinian is its first person pronoun: normally, romance languages have a first person pronoun that results from the lenition of g in latin EGO. So: jo, yo, io, eu, etc. Sardinian, however, managed to keep it as "ego" (you can see this in the carta de logu, a text in old sardinian) and some modern sardinian varieties even add a "d" on front making it "dego"

Other very interesting things about it are its choice of plural and lack of palatalization:

Unlike italian or romanian, the sardinian plural is -s, resembling spanish or french more. Unlike any other romance language, however, it appears that c never palatalized next to i or e. So latin FACERE (pronounced fakere) becomes sardinian fachere (pronounced the same way). Compare this to Spanish hacer, Italian fare and french faire and you'll see how remarkable this is.

How would someone with good knowledge of Latin, but imperfect knowledge of English, hypothetically sound?

The question of Latin pronunciation, and what constitutes "good" Reconstructed Classical pronunciation, has been done to death around here. English mother-tongue speakers, when trying to do Reconstructed Classical pronunciation of Latin, will bugger it up in a certain predictable way: they'll maul the r sound, as well as their vowels, and we all know how they'll maul it.

So here's the inverse. Hypothetically speaking, how would a mother-tongue Latin speaker fuck up the English language? I imagine they'd use the wrong r sound (the voiced alveolar or "Scotch" trill instead of the postalveolar "English" approximant) and possibly be unable properly to pronounce the v (using the labiodental fricative rather than the labiovelar approximant), but beyond that?

The Monster of Florence: two men were convicted but many people, investigators included, believe that the eight double murders remain unsolved (PART 1)

The "Monster of Florence" is the name used by the Italian media to refer to the perpetrator(s) of seven double murders that took place near Florence between 1974 and 1985. In 1982 a double homicide of uncertain attribution dating back to 1968 was also connected to the Monster. In 2000 the investigation led to the conviction of two men identified as the perpetrators of four double murders. They were the nicknamed "snack companions": Mario Vanni and Giancarlo Lotti , while a third man, Pietro Pacciani (sentenced to several life sentences and subsequently acquitted on appeal), died before being subjected to a new appeal process in 1996. The investigations also focused on a possible motive of esoteric nature (which would have prompted one or more people to commission the crimes) without however highlighting any objective evidence in this investigative direction. The story had a lot of media coverage as it was the first case of serial killings in Italy recognized as such and one of the bloodiest in the country. It also had an impact on the habits of the population living in the province of Florence in the 1980s, who began to avoid secluding themselves in isolated places at night. The fact that the victims were young couples in secluded public places opened up the media debate on whether to allow kids the possibility of finding intimacy at home, thus avoiding isolated and dangerous places.

*** Sorry for any mistakes, English is not my native language. Hope that everything is understandable! This is going to be a long and confusing story.

  • Modus operandi and profile

The murders were perpetrated over 11 or 17 years, depending on the attribution of the first crime. The victims were couples killed with similar or identical modus operandi, while they were in secluded places around Florence. The killer usually struck on new moon nights, or in any case during very dark nights and on weekends or days before holidays. The killer usually assaulted the victims while they were inside thier cars. The ambushes took place in the summer, with the exception of the crime on October 22 1981. One or more sidearms were used in the murders, with the exception of the attacks in 1968 and 1983. From 1974 to 1985 the same firearm was always used. It was identified as a Beretta series 70 pistol (probably the 74 or 76 ten-shot model), 22 Long Rifle caliber: a model that had entered the market in Italy in 1959. It was loaded with Winchester ammunition marked with the letter H on t

Dec/22/2021: Yerevan council fires mayor Marutyan amid accusations of improper management, bus purchase screwup, and corruption __ Russian drones & missile systems __ Turkey-Russia relations sour __ Ex-Minister wanted __ Scientists: DNA analysis of Armenians disproves the "Balkan" theory

This is your 14-minute Wednesday report in 3607 words.

##Yerevan Council votes to appoint Ind. Hrachya Sargsyan as the new mayor of Yerevan

Read this for context.

Marutyan's ally in Yerevan Council revealed [and later confirmed by a non-ally] that issues between Marutyan and the ruling party started before the war, and before Marutyan left the party.

After the war, Marutyan decided to leave the party. The ruling members said they made unsuccessful attempts to work things out, after which they decided to hold a vote to replace Marutyan.

Ruling party members accused Marutyan of making errors in the bus purchase process which forced him to purchase the wrong types of buses, inflating his role in some programs for PR, and insufficient fight against certain types of corruption in the municipality.

Marutyan's ally in Council accused the ruling members of pinning the blame on Marutyan and making "pro-Kocharyan" decisions by allowing former regime officials' mansions to be legalized instead of being demolished.

Marutyan gave a speech. He said there aren't serious reasons to replace him and that it's "politics". He pointed out the fact that the 2018 victory was achieved by the My Step alliance and not just the QP party [Pashinyan's QP had invited allies to form a My Step alliance]. "The name QP wasn't known to the masses in 2018."

Marutyan said he has left the QP party but not the My Step alliance, so he believes he is technically still a member of the ruling force. He criticized QP for claiming that they are the only ones that fought for the revolution's values.

Marutyan said he is true to revolution's values while members of governments are not, because they gave themselves a secret salary raise to ֏1.5M. [Context: public officials saw a sizeable salary raise after the revolution to discourage corruption because the new officials "couldn't get the extra income" through the usual corruption dealings that their predecessors would have.]

Marutyan said he denied requests from various officials to help their friends get a job, or to retaliate against certain "unfavorable" employees.

Marutyan boasted about driving a cheap vehicle without bodyguards, and criticized the Parliament for purchasing an expensive work vehicle for the Parliament President, "while people live in poverty"
