All mods work well
https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/rodents-of-unusual-size-take-over-gated-community-in-argentina-180978957/? Nice to see they've chosen a 'gated community' - I personally hate those things! Maybe they could replace lawn mowers!
This is another adventure with Dot the Ghost Bard, directly following from Dot the Ghost Bard Becomes Not Broke, played with Commonsense. As before, I added meta commentary in parathesis while playing, and I just added meta commentary for this actual play in square brackets.
> I wake up, > and Sanarei is waiting for me downstairs. > She received word of rare books > that may be in a nearby ruin. > The ruins are rumored to be infested > with rodents of unusual size. > [I generated a plot hook with the > Kassoon Random Plot Hook Generator: > "a Wizard hires you to retrieve magical artifacts from the ruins of an ancient city". > I figured Sanarei was close enough to a wizard > to serve that role. > I used Kobold Fight Club > to determine what was rumored to be in the ruins.] > > I head out for the ruins. > It is evening > by the time I arrive. > > I unsling my bone violin > and begin playing > to attract spirits. > > I send them in > and get a fuzzy image > of the layout of the ruins, > but I can't pinpoint the books. > [I made a similar argument > as I made at the entrance to the Burrows of the Ancient Knight. > It seems like a good strategy > for this character.] > > I head in > playing my violin > and waltzing with spirits. > > I wind through dusty corridors > and come across a group of territorial giant rats. > [I could have come across giant spiders > or a couple of variations on giant rats. > This was probably the most "standard" possible outcome, > but simple can be fun.] > > I send my spirits forth > to possess the rats. > Irritated by my soul rending music, > they charge. > > There aren't many rats > and my spirits possess them all. > The spirits have full control, > and I now have a troupe > of possessed rats > dancing around me. > [I figured the rats wouldn't have much defenses > against something like spirit possession. > Still, > they could have reached me > and done some damage > before I succeeded. > Also, > I really liked the imagery > of a bard dancing through ruined halls > with rats shimmying and shaking > in circles around him.] > > My rats scout ahead.

> Game's been running for awhile from what I can gather, think I responded to an advert on Reddit or something, can't remember at the moment
> Seems like a pretty normal affair, mixed regiment comprised of battered remains of other regiments, making own regiment is encouraged by GM
> The 15th Trazcal Repentant Infantry is born, Penal Legion raised from volunteers from a supermax security prison moon and their former Warden officers
> Am disappointed when no one gets the obvious reference to Alcatraz
> Game is pretty big, 20ish players, most of whom are alternating between two or three characters in a drop in-drop out format, pretty much every role already covered at all times
> Roll up 'Six', mafioso and gang boss turned Sergeant, invest in all the social skills
> Six speaks in an outrageous and probably offensive Jersey accent that nobody can figure out if it's real or fake, in or out of character
> Six and the Repentant quickly ingrain themselves with the rest of the regiment, minor tensions with the three other groups of penal legionnaires, Six hosts an illegal gambling tournament but the only person who attends is a Biomancer Psyker
> Psyker is pretty cool, starts hanging out with the Repentant a lot
> Regiment is deployed to the Fuedal world of Sisk to deal with a Genestealer/Tyranid infestation, apparently things got pretty gnarly in a previous session and a fair few Guardsmen got ganked by a Lictor
> A relatively uneventful but fun session of purging a cave system of some 'Stealers ensues, Six makes friends with pretty much everyone by being both friendly and competent, Six is briefly infected with a Genestealer parasite but saved by the Psyker
> Next session begins with one PC getting kidnapped and everyone else getting an invitation from some local bigwig
> Local bigwig brings us all, willingly or otherwise, to his mansion
> Bigwig with the stupid name I can't remember right now serves everyone a cup of tea, as in raw tea leaves, when questioned on this he states that he doesn't like adding water because it dilutes the taste and proceeds to "sip several leaves into his mouth and start chewing on them"
> Six picks up on what's going on immediately and starts negotiating for the release of our kidnapped comrade but everyone else is slower on the draw
> Bigwig tells us that several crates of imported weapons, most importa

This deck is mostly an aggro deck, with cards that pump your army of rats and others that give them evasion. But you can also win through draining your opponents out or by just milling them to death with [[Altar of Dementia]].
[[Rhonasβs Monument]] gives a rat trample and +2/+2 whenever you cast a creature spell, allowing them to get damage through chump blockers.
[[Dolmen Gate]] lets your rats survive combat to keep swinging turn after turn.
[[Throne of the God Pharaoh]] damages each opponent on your end step for each creature you attacked with.
[[Patron of the Nezumi]] can be cast at instant speed thanks to Rat Offering, making it a great response to a board wipe.
[[Thrumming Stone]] has been excluded due to being $30.
Does anyone know a good place to get giant rats that don't come with pack masters and rat ogres?
