I went from Plat 4 to Master (and back down to d2) by building a piece of software to review my vods easily.

Hi all,

I've spent the last year building and tweaking Replays.LOL - A free desktop client that automatically records your gameplay whilst you play, to easily review afterward.

It records it from your own point of view, so you can actually see where you were looking, where your mouse was hovering, what information you had available to you. I've found this helps you stop blaming other people because you can only see it from your own perspective.

The video player breaks down the game with keyframes of what happened, so you can easily jump to different events that happened in the game.

It automatically generates a vod review for you, to prompt you into thinking about what went wrong and what you could have done better(this part is actively being worked on to be much more champion / role / user specific).

I personally was able to start climbing a lot when I started watching back my losses and my wins, improving my positioning, avoiding unnecessary deaths, and forcing myself to make better macro calls.

I have spammed a lot of games this season, but I was able to spend 5 or so minutes reviewing each of my previous games by watching back the game whilst in the queue, or during champion select.

One of the biggest things that got me to improve was to stop blaming other people and only focus on my own mistakes. Every game each player is making a lot of mistakes, you never play flawless, and it might not have changed the outcome of that specific game, but blaming your team mates is never going to make you a better player.

Really looking forward to any feedback the summonerschool subreddit can give me on this, and open to answering any questions you might have!

My op gg for reference - https://euw.op.gg/summoner/userName=xxsniperpro12xx (bracing for the lulu flame!)

The client will always be free, it is currently windows only, and you can download it from here if you're interested: https://www.replays.lol

EDIT: - Riot approval: https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/813173736818999297/907924011143548958/unknown.png

Hope this post is okay - if there are any issues please let me know!

[Program Review] Jim Wendler's Building the Monolith

INTRO/TRAINING HISTORY:

I am a long distance runner turned bodybuilding focused lifter. I have competed in a few marathons and completed my first 50K last July. In the past I've followed a PPL, John Meadow's programs, Smolov Jr (2 cycles, 1 of which is outlined in my last program review here), and a few cycles of BBB, before taking on Building the Monolith. This was a program I had read about from the infamous /u/mythicalstrength many months ago, but a nagging shoulder injury kept me from running it for a while, and I knew I wanted to be 100% leading into it, especially since flat bench was the main irritator. I set my bench TM super conservative for BBB, built it back up, and felt it was time to give it a go.

THE PROGRAM:

I am sure if you frequent this subreddit you are well aware of this program, but if you're not, you can find an in-depth explanation on Wendler's blog here. It is 6 weeks, 3 days of heavy lifting, and 3 of conditioning. The lifting uses 2 mini-cycles to lead up to heavy 5x5s and some killer 20rep widowmakers. However, what made this extra challenging was running this in parallel with my scheduled Army PT 4 days a week.

You use a TM for this program as with any Wendler program, but these were the 1RMs I based my TMs off of. There about 3 months old, as I didn't retest after finishing BBB. For reference, I am 5’10, 169lb.

Squat: 305

OHP: 135

Deadlift: 375

Bench: 205

A typical week on this program for me looked like this:

Monday: Day 1 of BtM + Strength PT (Deadlift, core, push-ups, etc.)

Tuesday: 10-12 miles on the bike + run PT (4-5) miles

Wednesday: Day 2 of BtM + Functional strength PT (mostly calisthenics)

Thursday: 10-12 miles on the bike + sprint PT (typically 8-10 400M sprints)

Friday: Day 3 of BtM + 10-12 miles on the bike.

And so forth, which leads me to modifications I had to make:

MODIFICATIONS:

- I only had 5 days a week available to run this, which is why Fridays were both strength and conditioning. This is because the weekends were reserved for the girlfriend, who is also military, so time is limited.

- My conditioning was done on the bike at varying levels of difficulty. Our post doesn't have a prowler, and the gym is free here. The bike helped A LOT with the soreness.

- I was unable to log

My Guide/Review For The most effective muscle gain training/Nutrition Protocol I have followed: 5/3/1 BBB Beefcake-Building the monolith-Deep Water

INTRO

About a year ago, I proposed an idea for a weight gaining training block that was effectively stringing together the most effective weight gaining blocks I had used in an ascending order of difficulty. It went 5/3/1 BBB Beefcake, 5/3/1 Building the Monolith, Deep Water Beginner and Deep Water Intermediate, with deloads as appropriate. It was a bit uncharacteristic of me, as I tend to only vouch for approaches I’ve personally used, and though I had run all these programs individually, I had never run them in this order as a training block. I figured it would work well enough, but then my schedule opened up and I found myself with the opportunity to actually run the full 26 week program…and discovered it was even MORE effective than I could have possibly imagined. What I intend to do here is document my experience in running the whole programming block, takeaways and lessons learned.

THE PROTOCOL AND INDIVIDUAL PROGRAM REVIEW

For the full layout of all 26 weeks of programming, go here

For my review of BBB Beefcake, go here

For my review of Building the Monolith on this protocol, go here

For my review of Deep Water Beginner on this protocol, go here

For my review of Deep Water Intermediate on this protocol, go here

RESULTS?

It’s going to upset quite a few people that I never weighed myself for this weight gain program, but if you read through any of my program reviews you’ll most likely understand why: shift work makes my lifestyle pretty crazy. Getting a pre-breakfast/post bowel movement weigh in was a luxury I simply couldn’t afford in most cases, which meant weigh ins that I COULD get would be wildly inconsistent with too many variables in play. In full disclosure, I was concerned that the data would screw with my head and make me compromise my nutrition, so I just skipped the scale and focused on the mirror and the weights moved in the weightroom. So with that, I’ve got some not great before and after photos of the whole process, and I ended

If an apartment building has no reviews or mixed reviews, is it worth the risk?

I know I can go on a tour and see the place for myself and even ask current residents that live there how they feel about the place but the latter isn't always possible/reliable. I have some time to find a place and I want it to be a place I really like.

I've done my research and know everything else that needs to check the boxes for me, but I'm not sure how much importance I should place on reviews? Obviously, if there is nothing but bad reviews about a place, it's a no-go but what if there are 0 reviews or mixed reviews? How much do I let this sway my decision to check a place out?

Planning on building a desk for my first ever woodworking project. I would greatly appreciate if people could review my plan and let me know if it's sound. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I want to build myself a home office desk. I've never done any woodworking before so I just want to make sure my plans are sound.

I've already cut, sanded, and stained a sheet of 18mm (about 3/4") thick pine for the desktop, dimensions 1400 x 600mm (about 55 x 24") I was originally planning to buy a steel underframe from Ikea to slap it on, but the more I think about it the more I'd like to actually try to build something myself.

(FYI, this will need to support 2 monitors, attached to the desk with a dual monitor arm and a laptop. I already tested the destkop by laying it across a couple of sawhorses and putting the equivalent weight of bricks on it [about 10kg / 22lbs) and it sagged about 10mm, so I know that the underside of the desktop needs to be supported).

Here's what I'm thinking:

  1. Make a rectangular half-lap jointed frame 1350 x 400 mm (about 53 x 16") to be attached to the underside of the desktop, in order to brace and support it across the entire length.
  2. Build 2 A-frame legs, 680 mm (27") high, 400mm (16") at the top, with a spread of 600mm (24") between the bottom of the legs, and mount that directly to the underframe using stainless steel angle brackets.

My question is:

  1. Can I get away with making the underframe and/or legs out of 42 x 42 mm (1.65" x 1.65") pine DAR (product link), or
  2. should I use 70 x 45mm (2.75" x 1.77") pine DAR (product link) instead (for either just the legs, or both the legs and the underframe), or
  3. do I even need to go for 70 x 35 mm (2.75" x 1.37") structural pine (product link) instead. or
  4. is none of the above sufficient for the purpose, and if not what would you recommend instead?

Thank you for your time. Sorry for not posting sketches - I tried sketching it out but it just looked like an incomprehensible mess.
