---|---|---|---|
Ars Technica - Sam Machkovech | Unscored | If you loved RE7, you might like RE Village. | PS4, PS5 |
Atomix - Alberto Desfassiaux | 90/100 [Spanish] | βNeedless to say, if you're a fan of the series, especially what was done with Resident Evil VII a few years ago, you'll be very happy with what Resident Evil Village presents to us. What I would say is that you might want to lower your expectations for the size of the game and the developer's own ambitions a little. The eighth installment of this beloved saga is one that fulfills in a very good way almost everything it tries, carrying in a very dignified way with the name it represents, however, it is also true that we would have loved to have taken more important risks and that the events happened more calmly to present a longer adventure. Anyway, Capcom proves its worth again and it's still at the spearhead if we talk about AAA development.β | PS5 |
AusGamers - Steve Farrelly | 8/10 | Not to suggest your rendezvous with the Lady of the Castle isn't one to savour |
Edit 10/05/21: I have just finished the game and while is absolutely true that is less of a horror game then RE:7 I had the same or more fun with it. It is a solid 9 for me and cant wait for RE: 9 already :).
Two of my friends who love the franchise have not played the game or havenβt finished it because it was too scary, another two of them had to play it with me at home lol.
I think this is a sign of how well crafted that game is and is sad they are taking a route that is aimed to make the game more appealing for more people.
One thing I loved about RE:7 since I saw the first trailers was the context of it. The Massacre from Texas style they gave to the game was excellent, it puts you in the shoes of someone who is trapped in a rotting house in the extremely hot swamps of southern U.S with a psychopathic family who is observing you constantly and trying to kill you and to me that was scary and exciting as fuck. I have finished that game maybe three times already and one moment that I cannot forget was when in my first playthrough I had to go the βbasementβ of the house, where the boiler room is and how fucking scared I was to go down there because I was low on resources, it was dark af and I didnβt know what but I knew there was something horrible waiting for me down there.
To me the whole game was a masterpiece because of that, if you let yourself influence by the story and the context of this game it becomes as scary as exciting to progress and I thought those two things defined RE:7.
When Capcom started releasing more and more footage about Village, I was not getting those horror vives at all and donβt get me wrong the game looks stunning and very detailed and I canΒ΄t wait to play it but the whole vampire and werewolf atmosphere is something I have associated with more fantastic/teenage horror then a bunch of cannibal psychopaths living in a remote are of Louisiana in a rooting house where they kidnap people for creepy experiments and having fun.
After I played the demo yesterday, I realized I am still very excited for playing this game but and also I confirmed that this game is definitely not going to be as scary as RE:7 and when I just read that statement from the game director I learned that this is not accidental.

Hello community, we have an exciting announcement!
Reddit Gaming Partnerships and Capcom USA have arranged with us the opportunity to submit AMA questions for the Resident Evil Village development team! The questions will be answered on a later date in a pre-recorded video.
Everyone involved is running on a pretty tight schedule, so weβre going to need the questions by Wednesday morning EST May 19th.
Ask anything, it doesnβt have to be related to Resident Evil. Just please do not ask anything inappropriate and be aware no questions about any unannounced/future plan will be responded to. So whatever comes to mind, asking about favorite movies, exercise routines, if anyone can juggle, etc. Donβt hesitate to post that burning question you must have.
Have fun everyone!
For those may not know, the RE8 demo was released earlier today on Steam. It's graphics settings were quite similar to RE2 Remake and I myself have dabbled in it. While there are few optimization issues, there seems to be a consensus that the game is really optimized.
However, there is one glaring issue and that is the lack of a FOV slider. Someone on the Steam forums had pointed out that the game runs at a default 81 FOV and there is no way of changing it so far. This has caused great discomfort, myself included, for those who play with monitors. Considering RE7 had a FOV slider, it seemed strange that RE8 would lack one, especially since both are FPS.
If there is no intention to change this from the developers, given how the game will be released in a few days, it may put off people from purchasing the PC version of the game. There are plenty of people who have decided to refund the game.
Hopefully this is a mishap on the developers part and a FOV slider will be added later on, but as of right now, people are quite frustrated about it.
This is the place to discuss all things Resident Evil Village. Spoilers welcome!

Topic... If you could only buy one game out of Returnal or Resident Evil Village.. which would you buy?
Games release 7 days apart.
Resident Evil Village has had 2 different demoβs and the game feels/looks solid.. all depends how long of an experience it is i guess.
Returnal is mysterious and possibly punishing.. looks to be the game with a longer life due to daily challenges and type of game.
