A list of puns related to "Red Book of Hergest"
I wonder how lovers of books feel about a recent trend of certain books being almost blacklisted as books whose readers should be avoided. Iโm thinking things like American Psycho, Clockwork Orange, The 48 laws of Power, Fight Club, The Stranger and Catcher in the Rye?
Do you think there truly is a correlation between bad people and those books or is it just โBooktokโ having bad experiences and projecting?
[I checked with the mods if this was allowed before posting about it]
My book is mega dead, so letโs do a post-mortem because that shit is rad and also useful to people who want to publish books.
Hey guys! As you guys might remember, I'm the fencing dude who wrote a book a short while ago, and you guys were incredibly kind and motivational about it when I posted about it. I said it before, but you guys literally inspired me to write the book so I absolutely dedicate the book to this communityโyou guys were on the acknowledgements page for a reason. You guys were always encouraging me about my fencing shitposts, so I wrote a novel that is basically my fencing shitposts made into a fantasy novel: Duellistโs Road: No Shortcuts. And Iโm always going to be really happy that I did it.
So, yeahโbook launch has come and gone, book is deader than whatever joke of the week we beat into the ground, and I want to talk about why the book is so dead.
A lot of people asked me to talk about how the publishing process went, and since we have so many aspiring writers here, I figured it would be nice to share some insight into it, because some of this info doesnโt really show up publicly. You can sort of find out about it if you ask other authors around, but when youโre starting out itโs hard to really know other authorsโwhich I fortunately do know now! But yeah this is the kind of info I'd really like to make sure the community is aware of for any books you release in the future.
So.
Uh.
Yeah letโs talk about how I fuck up and how Amazon is...a little on the difficult side to work with, so that you guys who are planning on writing novels donโt commit the same mistakes Iโve made.
Fuckup #1: For the love of god donโt publish in December
So, December sounds on paper like a good time to release a book right? A lot of people have time off, Christmas giftsโholidays are a rad time to release right? Well, no. Conventional wisdom advises people not to publish in December because people only buy books of known authors as gifts and so on.
โWell,โ you might wonder, โeven if you donโt get a bonus from Christmas, December is still a month like any other right? Not only that, KENP (royalty rates for books enrolled in the KU program) rates tend to be higher in Decemb

After connecting with a trusted peer I've found the next direction I'd like to take my first project.
Batman Forever: Red Book Edition by scaperat is a legendary and inspirational fan edit, and is known for being one of the very first fan edits of the 1995 superhero film directed by the late Joel Schumacher ever to grace the internet. That being said, it is in dire need of improvement, as some aspects of the edit have not aged as well as they should have.
I'm looking forward to getting this off the ground very soon. If the original editor was still around today, I think he would be proud that his labour of love is getting the modernised treatment.
Updates will be coming as soon as possible. Until then, here's to another great year of fanediting! ๐ฅ
According to blockchain analysis, exchanges hold about 2 million Bitcoins. When we compare their holdings with their order book, we can see that about 5% to 1% of their holdings are ready for sale (red part of order book). The remaining 95% (99%) of the bitcoins are asleep. We will try to apply this to Monero and get some estimate of the coins that should be held by exchanges. Here is an estimate for 5% (x20), 2.5% (x40) and 1% (x100):
Exchange | Order book | x20 | x40 | x100 |
---|---|---|---|---|
HitBTC | 128k | 2.6M | 5.1M | 12.8M |
Kraken | 51k | 1M | 2M | 5.1M |
Binance | 40k | 800k | 1.6M | 4M |
Bitfinex | 33k | 660k | 1.32M | 3.3M |
Huobi | 4k | 80k | 160k | 400k |
OKEx | 2k | 40k | 80k | 200k |
Gate.io | 1.5k | 30k | 60k | 150k |
Poloniex | 1k | 20k | 40k | 100k |
Total in exchanges holding | 5.2M | 10.4M | 26M |
Even the weakest estimate shows us that exchanges hold twice about as many coins as they should have. OKEx, Binance and Bitfinex have problems with withdrawals, so they can be expected to have mainly non-existent coins. HitBTC has not had a withdrawal problem in last year (or it can keep it as secret). As the biggest player in the market it understood that the price of XMR is stifled (and wallets are secret), so it probably sells only fake longs (these are impossible to withdraw, so there is no risk of a bank run).
And of course, it should not be forgotten that around 10% of real XMR reserve is enough to keep the exchanges running smoothly. (This is exactly the last estimate: 2.6M of real coins (as it should be) and the rest (90%) is fiction).
Here is my older post on the same topic: How many XMR coins are there in exchanges?
I mostly read snarky sarcastic books like Vonnegut in 2021 so decided to start the new year with some earnest shit. Expected it to be a down-to-earth grimdark tale about impoverished farmers but it turned out to be much more. It's not a page turner in the normal sense but I had a hard time putting it down.
(vague spoilers) The friendship between Lee and Samuel felt so refreshing compared to relationships nowadays, just two dudes who love learning and admit they don't know everything and enjoy each other's company. Big dudes rock energy.
Every conversation between Cathy and Adam was gripping, Cathy had his number at every turn, so calculating and in the end it didn't matter. The bit where Aron makes his gf act like his mother was touching but make me glad for his sake she didn't have Twitter back then.
For me Cal is the most compelling character, like his biblical analogue Cain he's born apparently unloveable and vacillates between attempts at goodness, casual cruelty, and self-pity.
I read some critics think Cathy is a lazy, pure-evil character (even Steinbeck seems to have agreed) but to me she reads like a garden variety sociopathic solipsist, not unrealistic if a bit exaggerated. Whenever she meets a non-NPC character she's terrified of them, but most of the characters are NPC-level and Steinbeck commendably has more sympathy for them.
Overall the book feels like it has enormous love for humanity, which I don't usually seek out in literature but was nice to find here.
Anyway sorry for the GoodReads-tier post about an Oprah-tier book, I admit I blew through it cause I am addicted to nic and allowed myself to hit the vape every 4 pages and now just want to hear people's thoughts. If anyone thinks this shit is pedestrian I urge you to recommend a few high-IQ books in the comments (please not Finnegans Wake). โฎ๏ธ&โค๏ธ
I genuinely believed that and I'll tell you why. Su Yin said she joined a traveling circus when she was younger and there was a picture of her in the background with members of her circus and one of the guys in the photo seriously looked like Zaheer. Someone said this may have been a easter egg to suggest that this circus was where Su Yin and Zaheer officially met up and she was exposed to Red Lotus ideas.
I can't be the only one who remembered that?
This was spoken about in revelations, proceeded by a great plague and followed by a great storm of locusts
Iโm just curious if itโs worth my time especially considering that Iโm stuck on the second level
I have the miniseries on DVD and itโs my comfort watch. Canโt get enough of big haunted mansions!

This is my comparison on how Boba Fett's character was handled in Book of Boba Fett vs how Red Hood's character was handled in Batman Under the Red Hood. If Red Hood was done better in the comics than in the animated movie Batman Under the Red Hood, fine I just wanna compare how an Anti Hero Crime lord was better portrayed in another piece of media
To paint a picture, the film opens with a small gang of drug lords having a mysterious meeting nobody knows who called it as it was assembled upon the new vigilante on the block titled, Red Hood.
In the scene he offers the drug dealers a 60% cut in exchange for protection from both Batman and the Black Mask, with the notion that they stay away from children on school yards. To quote "No dealing to kids, if you do... You're dead"
Naturally the drug dealers don't take well to the proposal from a complete stranger. Questioning "Why should we listen to you"
To which, Red Hood drops a duffel bag filled with the heads of their lieutenants. "That took me two hours, wanna see what I can do in an evening. Make no mistake, I'm not asking you to join up with me. I'm telling you."
Unlike the Book of Boba, we are given a noble anti-hero still in leagues to being the next crime lord while taking on both Batman and the local competition. Red Hood is instantly shown to be both competent and threatening while giving us a crime lord with honor. The Book of Boba Fett hasn't accomplished this in two episodes.
The movie continues as Red Hood goes on a one man gang war against The Black Mask and eventually collides with Batman a couple times. To quote "You can't stop crime, I'm controlling it"
Holy shit, with one line and the introduction with the movie, this character takes the role of crime lord to an anti hero status that actually makes sense and makes him a much more compelling character.
Now you can criticize the film for a lot of reasons, but my point is Boba Fett's noble pursuit is baffling and doesn't fit with the character and makes absolutely no sense for his line of work. On top of that his empire has no grounding, two episodes and all he has is a sniper lady and two pig bois and yet he's already dubbed himself as the official crime lord.
Imagine killing the mayor and just telling everyone, "Alright I'm in charge now" it's so stupid and at this point you've already lost me.
I'm not interested in this show anymore. I'm just gonna follow Mooler's podcasts on it, there's just nothing good about this show.
pictures of the manga differences are there more differences than these?
I used to think that all girls should be dated but this book revealed to me that not all women deserve your commitment, apart from the wonderful and kind women in this world, there are wretched and evil women out there that are out to break your heart unknowingly by they themselves.
It really is an eye-opener, comparing myself to my brother when I told him about red flags, he told me that "He'd rather experience it than read it from a book." but fuck that, this book provides hindsight into issues that you can avoid and from that you learn that you should avoid these types of people.
Similar to The Hunger Games and Throne of Glass, the story is heart warming, gory and fantasy. The writing style is fast paced and engaing, Pierce has found the healthy medium between over and under detailing. From the start the hierarchy was attractive and the story engaging. it's just full of devilish plot twists. The character perspective is not over detailed how some authors do, everything is more left to the imagination and personal preferences. I felt like I was watching Game of Thrones, it's so exciting and action packed. The relationships in the story is so realistic and interwined with eachother, similar to throne of Glass, you simply know these people as you know yourself or best friend. Ugh I'm absolutely gushing about the story. 100/10. Couldn't have asked for a better read. This goes up with my top 10 reads that have made my life worth living. Everyone read it, you won't regret it .
