The Deciphering of the United Nations Navy Rank Insignia's (S3 Spoilers?)

Hey all,

So I have this weird obsession with military rank insignia's and it's always been an interesting hobby to either figure out what ranks individuals are based on their insignia (basing it off of a basic progression system i.e. more lines = higher ranks)

Anyway, in Season 3, I think we were all given a wonderful treat of seeing the UNN Battle Dress Uniform (Referred to as such on the wiki, don't want to get into an argument about uniform designations.) And we get to see the shoulder rank insignia's for the men and women of the UNN while operating on board a ship. One confusion I have is the different insignia's for two character's introduced who operate as Bridge Crew. On the wiki, they are both listed as "Lieutenant", however one is an XO and the other is not.

Now my thoughts were that the UNN based their shoulder rank insignia's off the sleeve insignia's of the US Navy, as seen in this example of Admiral Souther, who has a shoulder insignia that is just like the US Navy's Admiral sleeve rank:

In "The Empire strikes back'" Vader kills admiral Ozzel over Hoth and then talks to Captian Piett. Shortly after Ozzel dies, he (Piett) is adressed as Admiral Piett, meaning he was promoted. A few scenes later, his Imperial chest insignia that indicates rank has changed, signifying he was promoted.

When did Galen Erso have a military rank? Wasn't he just a scientist? Even on Eadu when he was working on a project for the Empire, his outfit didn't have a rank insignia. But in some promo photos, he has one.

Question: Why is the British Army rank insignia a Bath Star?

Just found out the pip/rank insignia for officers used by most regiments of the British Army is a Bath Star :

WWI US M1917 Brodie Helmet with 77th ID Insignia applied. Composed mostly of men from New York City, they saw heavy action during the war, notably with it's Lost Battalion. This can't be happening right now, this shouldn't be happening right now. Six rows of four that's 24 wasted warehouse slots each holding 10 skin scraps or 25 of the building ones(yeah some have 20 or even 30 of the skin) there should be another place to hold these similar to the insignia storage.
