keep fighting against the lying cheating financial systems that the rich and well connected have created for their own pleasure. It was never about the regular folks investing their life savings, it was always "work until you are 65 then you can have the good life" just as religion says follow the rules and when you DIE(wtf!) you go to heaven. all these rules and systems are created by the "haves" to control the "have-nots". shake those trees! make some noise, hold on tight, youth is the best time to live and risk. How would the cape scene and the geopolitical "status quo" of the world change if the Endbringers dissapeared or were killed?

If for any reason the endbringers permanently dissapeared, I figure that the cape scene would definetly become more violent. Since villains aren't needed anymore for endbringer fights, I think that cape organizations across the world would be way less lenient with gangs, and kill orders would probably be much more common.

With the geopolitical status, with the economic boom that eventually would become, and with gangs and other villain organizations more under control, I think what would happen will be something similar to the proxy wars of the cold war, and maybe large scale armed conflicts. Because without the Endbringers key economic areas such as the strait of Hormuz, the Suez canal and resource rich areas like Africa, South America and the Levant would become again very important and the world powers would jump at any chance of controlling them.

I found out about a concept called clustering related to how groups perpetuate the status quo that can help you understand how racism can condition people to fear being too ambitious

I read about it in this blog post: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/matter-personality/201506/why-patients-borderline-personality-dont-get-better

It's defined as aggression from a group towards a member that arises if a member changes in a way that challenges preconceptions.

The author explains:

>What I thought may be happening in families that produce children with BPD is that the family needs a black sheep, and the person with BPD has been electedβ€”and then voluntarily continuesβ€”to play the part. If he or she finally stops playing the part, the family then shuns them. In this situation, the family is in effect punishing the BPD children for not being who the parents need them to be. But abandonment is actually far from the worst nor the most likely outcome when patients start to act better.

And he goes on to talk about what happens as "clustering" gets more intense:

>The next thing that happens is that the parents start to act out in alarming and frightening ways. I'm talking about such things as the parents making suicide threats or actual attempts, increasing their drug or alcohol abuse to higher and higher levels, worsening their level of domestic violence, throwing other family members out on the street penniless, or abusing or neglecting any children left in the home. You knowβ€”minor, inconsequential stuff.

So when a marginalized groups starts to become empowered and heal, this in itself can be the catalyst for further victimization or punishment.

But the catch is that this doesn't arise because of conscious efforts to undermine. So when people counter changes in behavior with cutting criticism, shunning, rejection, etc. it fits this pattern (becomes clustering) no matter what your politics are.

So when people "cut racists back down to size" after displays of "hypocrisy", you dig your own grave and elicit more racism.

Quo vadis Deutschland?

Das gleiche beim Klimawandel, Wissenschaft sagt A Politik macht B.

The VERY second a group starts getting a tiny bit more popular than they're established, people jump on them like sharks

I have seriously got to get this off my chest

Yes, this is about Brave Girls. Of course, the majority of discussion has been about people praising and giving their thoughts on the comeback, Brave Bros. is back, etc. But I swear I'm seeing backhand comments about one thing or another on social media be it a snide comment about their age or how it sounds like a Sistar song (gee, I wonder why that could possibly be?) and not in the complementary way, like in the "how dare they even attempt to have a summery sounding song" as if that's some kind of blasphemous sin. It's just such a reversal of Rollin blowing up because people were so into that song and the wild ride of seeing them blow up so hard but now that the status quo is established, it's time to knock any potentially big pegs down.

It reminds me of last year when OMG blew up from Nonstop and Dolphin and between all the surprise at seeing them rise up in the charts, there was this undercurrent feeling of "who are these nugus" and "why are they rising so high? Is this manipulation". Don't get me wrong, it's not like there was a lot of that but, like, it existed. This happens SO much and I hate it and I needed to vent it out there. It's like only specific groups can have specific levels of success at specific times. Anyway, that was it. Thanks.

Moved here from out of state, disappointed with the state and local landlord tenant laws and enforcement. Are there any groups I can volunteer with who are making an impact to improve legislation and enforcement? Who are the players?

I attempted to move into an apartment in Carrboro and it was filled with mold so I ended up moving to a place in Durham.

The inspector in Carrboro is not fit for the position and it seems they let landlords get away with providing unsafe housing for people who are mostly students.

Also NC doesn't require landlords to give notice before entering a property! Is this true they could burst through the door at any moment with any frequency and I have no legal recourse?

Is there any way I can change things here for the better? Is anyone out there trying to make this happen who isn't just giving lip service and maintaining the status quo?

Hi Reddit! I'm Joey Zwillinger, co-founder and co-CEO of Allbirds here today to discuss why we need to challenge the corporate sustainability status quo. Ask me anything!

My co-founder and I started Allbirds in 2016 to help contribute to the fight against climate change (you can read more about that here: https://www.allbirds.com/pages/sustainable-practices). You might be wondering though – can a brand like ours really make a big enough impact? Well, the short answer is no. The long answer is yes, but only if we can get the entire private sector to take sustainability as seriously as its bottom line. So let’s talk about it!

As with other AMAs, I’ll look to the community to select which questions to answer through upvotes. Once they’ve been chosen, I will answer as many of them as I can over our hour-and-a-half together - starting at 11:30AM PST.

Excited to get started. Please check back for more updates as we go!

EDIT: This has been awesome! I have to run soon, so get your questions in the next 5 mins and I'll try to get to them!

The Cycle: Status quo part 3

Status Quo part 3: Ramos

It had been two days since they had spaced Shira, and things were still predictably messed up.

Cyrlla hadn't shown herself and he had only seen Nilac, who had been all too quick to tell him just how disappointed she was, in the most motherly way possible, making Ramos answer with a very shrunk "I'm sorry!", an automatic behavior, born of the relationship with his own mother.

Rui left his quarters and walked the spacious, winding, white and golden corridors of the Gur'Nak'Khra towards med bay 12 alone with his thoughts. He wasn't exactly sure how to handle the conversation that was coming, he needed to make a point, and this particular Kurriat was... challenging! But this wasn't about him, or her, this was about the future and deep down, about someone he loved. He hoped they could reach an understanding or all this, all of the pain these last two days had brought, would have been for naught.

It was at the door to the med bay that he bumped in with all of the Kurriat contingent present in the ship, Lar'ni, and a few other Ainur, and the mood was sour, even if not outright hostile yet, but Ramos's presence was sure to change that.

Shinan turned on Ramos on sight, enraged, actually lunging at him, but being gently stopped by one of the guardians. Shafir and Nilac rushed towards her, trying to help the Kurriat magistrate calm down. She still screamed at him from behind the other two, larger, Matrons, most got translated into things like brute, savage, murderer.... but others did not get translated at all, Ramos did his best to ignore her and headed towards the bay door, Shinan's objections growing louder and louder.

Zibai stepped in front of his path, even if she had been relieved of her staff, and stretched her hand forward, trying to halt Ramos.

"Move aside, this is an Imperium ship, and you got no authority here!" Ramos answered the Matron's silent order.

"I must!" she answered, stoically, looking Ramos in the eyes, for her benefit she showed neither fear nor anger, only the determination of duty.

"I understand, but now you will move aside, or they will remove you." Ramos said, pointing at the guardians present, trying to sound as sympathetic as he could. The Matron hesitated but, as two guardians stepped forward, reluctantly gave way.

He looked to his left, noticing Cyrlla there, silently hugging herself, with her eyes cast down, saddened. He looked down as well, with a heavy heart, this had to be so difficult for

The philosophical status quo

I want to highlight a few concepts that have existed as undercurrents to modern thought. I believe these ideas are not well-understood because they are assumed and explained to be complex and uninviting. I think it is critical that we understand people that we disagree with to make any progress in society, not just on an emotional level (ugh, empathy) but on a logical level. Understanding the core ideas that form all of their normative arguments (what should be done) and perceptions is how we start to do that.

  • Deontology - basically, the idea that the morality of an action is judged according to a set of rules, which is generally provided by some sort of authority (eg yourself, society, god, etc). If your act satisfies the rules, it is moral. If it doesn't satisfy the rules, it is immoral. This is often contrasted with consequentialism, which is a messy theory to be honest, but it's basically a rejection of judging an act solely on satisfaction of rules a priori. It judges the morality additionally based on all events and outcomes that occur after the initial act.
  • Relativism - basically, a philosophy of the mind that says there can be no authority on experience or truth.
  • Existentialism - basically, the idea that the content of utility is the satisfaction of authority combined with the idea that there is no authority. Basically, deontology + relativism.
  • Structuralism - basically, a form of "act utilitarianism", which is to say utility has relative rather than absolute value, ranked value, or numerical value. That is, the only way of defining utility is relative to other utility. (Numerical and ranked utility are also relative, except they have a simple structure. Here, relative implies the possibility of complex graphical relationships). Basically, relativism specifically applied to the content of an act or outcome's utility.
  • Post structuralism - basically, take the structuralist definition provided, and add that utility of options is not only relative to utility of other options, but it is also relative to time (as relations and utility can change) and the interpreter. This is basically structuralism + pragmatism (eg William James β€” ideas evolve and improve over generations) + existentialism (ie there is no authority to this previously structuralist idea).
  • Critical theory - basically, negative utility (ie problems) are relative/structural. It is a corollary of structuralism and post-structuralism, since they do not clearly state
