A list of puns related to "Police of The Wire"
Most of you guys and gals in this subreddit probably know of the chess analogies throughout the show. However, if you were to make a chess board, but with characters from the show representing the different pieces, how would it look like?
Fair warning, itβs not easy.
Here is mine:
White is Police. Black is The Streets.
Black: King: Avon Barksdale, probably the most obvious one, however choosing Marlo as your kingpin could be fun as well.
Queen: Stringer Bell. I think this one is obvious as well.
The rooks: Wee Bay and Slim Charles Avonβs most heavy muscles.
The bishops: The white bishop is Maurice Levy as he can navigate in the judicial system, but he is limited to the white marbles alone. I could also argue that Levy is a knight, as the knight in chess Levy is an unorthodox player in the βgameβ, and can navigate like no other, compared to the rest of the organization. But for now Iβm making him a bishop.
The black bishop is Bodie, he knew nothing else than the black asphalt of the streets and he attained a lot of responsibility under Stringer, which made him more than a pawn, in my eyes.
The knights: I canβt see any obvious knights in the Barksdale Crew. Due to the way the knights move Iβve also imagined this piece to be kind of rebellious and autonomous/independent, which is why DβAngelo is one of the knights and the other knight is Brother Mouzone.
The pawns are just sad hoppers.
White:
King: The white king is tough to decide, but Iβll go with Lance Redick, although he answers to Burrell, who then answers to Carcetti. But my point of departure is the wire tap from season one, and in that investigation Lance is the leader and thus the king.
Queen: Lester Freamon. Maybe a little bit controversial, but when you think about it, Lester can do almost everything as Police. Heβs a smart detective who cracks the case open, when he finds a picture of Avon, but heβs also fierce when he smashes Wee Bey in the head with a bottle, while pretending to be a drunk. Obviously a queen pin in my eyes.
Rooks: McNulty and Bunk, I think this is self explanatory.
Bishops: I think there are many bishops on the police side and you could probably argue against my choices. Rhonda Pearlman is obvious and a counterpart to the black bishop Levy. Pryzbelevaki is also obvious, as he is great police but only limited to work behind the desk ( a complete disaster on the street). Kima is definitely better alround police than Pryzbelevski, but sheβs definit
... keep reading on reddit β‘Is there anything out there that has a similar scope as one of the seasons of the Wire, in particular the first 2 seasons that focus on the investigation of the criminals and the political motivations inside the dept? Thanks
Season 2 Episode 11 at around 11 minutes in, there's a scene where Lieutenant Daniels asks Sgt. Landsman, what he took from the scene (Where Ziggy shot the 2 greeks.) Sgt. landsman says at some point "Fuck, i cleaned everything else huh". What exactly does he mean by everything else. I don't quite understand how he fucked up, other than not reporting the incident to lieutenant daniels and his unit ofc.
Start with the cliche "My dad was on the force and I wanna follow in his footsteps" idea with a young (possibly black?) new member, then spend the season escalating the stuff they let him see: from getting rid of traffic tickets to planting guns and drugs etc, and then end the season either with the character resigning themselves into it or trying to speak out and committing suicide with two shots to the back of the head inside of a duffel bag.
