Hey everyone. We're currently scheduling testing, both for safety and for compliance with CMMC level 3. Our legal team wants to know why we need a penetration test, as we're already doing vulnerability scans. I'm looking through but am not able to find any control (up to CMMC level 3) that requires a penetration test. Am I missing something? I want to make sure before I go back to them.
Edit: Thanks for all the answers! Good news is that we will still be going through with the pentests, which I believe we need. There's 100 ways we can technically call ourselves compliant with controls then have them fall apart as soon as a hacker blows on them.

I need to create a automated penetration testing tool for a router for university and was wondering what would be the best way to go about this? I know i need to use kali linux but i have no idea of where to start. It needs to run and then show its findings afterwards and i have to create a user manual for it too. Any advice would be great.
