A list of puns related to "Pemphigus foliaceus"
Hi there. First-time poster in this subreddit. Long-story short, my dog has been on 2 mg/kg BID prednisone for about 6 weeks and has typical panting, and polydipsia and polyuria. I'd like to explore alternative immunosuppressants like cyclosporine etc. he had mild case of about 3 mos of localized crusting and alopecia on snout about size of quarter. he has responded well to prednisone. he's on 30 mg now from 40 mg and doing ok. maybe it's best to just taper and see how he does off but if he needs long-term rx i'd prefer to NOT do prednisone.
Main questions: best steroid-alternative? remission and recurrence rate? do i need a dog dermatologist? can general vets manage?
Hi everyone,
I recently rehomed a 2 & a half year old domestic shorthair from her previous owners, who could no longer keep her. Sheβs around 8-9lbs.
I brought her to the vet when I first adopted her (in Sept 2020) because I noticed one of her paws was bleeding. She was treated for a secondary infection and steroids. The vet said she likely had mild-moderate PF, which was causing her nail beds to form painful crusts.
Her condition improved after the vet visit, and her nail biting had stopped. Recently, I noticed the crusts forming again and plan to take her in to the vets as soon as they can accommodate us.
What I would like to know:
Iβve only had her for a few months and although I love her, I am a full-time university student and I canβt afford to take care of a chronically ill cat. The biopsy alone is $500.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you so much for reading.
TL;DR: After three visits to the vet in three weeks and two different antibiotics, Penelope is on steroids and two topical medications and has a probable diagnosis of pemphigus foliaceus, an autoimmune skin disease. I have no idea what that really means for her! Does anybody have any experience/advice/anything?
Here's the whole story:
Penelope is about 7 years old, slightly crotchety toward our younger and more playful cat, and came equipped with perfect training (she's never missed the litterbox or scratched anything but her scratchers) when we adopted her as a 2 year old. We know nothing about her past or genetics, but she is very pretty and soft and we love her!
Two weeks ago we noticed that two of Penny's toes were very sensitive to the touch and appeared to be swollen and pus/crust covered. My husband took her to our vet the next day, but saw our least liked vet (there are three at the practice) and was kind of blown off for "not having a handle on things", though Penny was given an antibiotic shot.
A week later, there was no improvement so we took her back to the vet. I went along this time and we saw the vet we like. She suggested a possible autoimmune condition but prescribed another antibiotic to see if it helped - orbax (orbifloxacin). She also gave us a topical spray to coat the affected toes with - trizchlor. After a few days it seemed to be getting better, but a day or two later it seemed to reverse. Additionally, she developed something on her ear over the weekend. The tip is curling inward a tiny bit, it's covered in crusted pus on the inner side, and it's extremely sensitive. When I first noticed it, I was sure we'd gotten it dirty. However, I tried to clean it off with a wet washcloth and she yowled and scratched and otherwise let us know it was painful.
We took her to the vet a third time Monday, and after looking at the ear and her claws (two new ones have joined the first two, a dewclaw and one on her back foot seems to be starting up) again, she gave us a probable diagnosis of pemphigus foliaceus. It's an autoimmune skin condition with no known cause that causes lesions that pop to form thick crusts/scabs (says the internet http://www.dvm360.com/pemphigus I swear this fact sheet worked when I wrote this, here is the article http://www.veterinarymedicine.dvm360.com/vetmed/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=653149). She's on prednisonlone, 5mg twice a day, which the vet tech said was the highest dosage she ever saw our vet prescrib
... keep reading on reddit β‘My boyfriend was recently diagnosed with pemphigus foliaceus, an autoimmune disorder that attacks the cells keeping your epidermis attached to the rest of your skin and causing it to blister and fall off. It seems to be more common in animals, but there is a decent sized community out there of people living with it.
It seems as though the only known treatment is oral and topical steroids to ease inflammation, then immune-suppressants to keep the immune system at bay. The steroids have worked for him, but he's still managed to break out while on Celcept (immune suppressant). The other issue is all the damage these hard drugs are doing to his liver/kidney/etc.
We've recently started seeing a Chinese doctor who preforms natural Chinese medicine. It was okay for a little while, but now the poor boy has broken out like crazy and his doctor keeps telling him to wait it out (easy for him to say... :< ) The only thing I can think to do is go back to steroids (which his new doctor has halted completely).
Have any of you had any experience with this disease??

Title is the condensed story. I'm 15 living in Ontario, Canada. If you want to skip the rant go to the Legal part.
For some context because I need to rant a bit. My is heavily against any vaccinations; including the Covid one. She laid down a few thing to do before I make a decision I accepted because she just want to sit down and talk, call my doctor, and look at statistics Canada. So, one night I was asking to get in contact with my doctor so I can get the shot as soon as possible. She turned on her computer and shows me an email. The email says the one of the puppy's my dog had got on autoimmune that attacks the skin (pemphigus foliaceus, pemphigus vulgaris, or pemphigus erythematosus) and that he had to be put down. I read it and then walked up to my mom and said, "I feel bad for β β β β β β ." The she has the audacity to say 'it's the vaccines' while I'm still processing what I just read. She proceeds to belittle me and call me stupid for I could I even consider putting such a thing into me. I went outside and climb onto the roof until she left (She was going camping).
I talked to my coworkers, they said just get it. I talked to my neighbor (Age 76 with both shots) who had become a very close person in my life, sat down with me and we talked for an hour about what to do. He said he'll drive me to the closest clinic for my first shot and talk to my mom, because he know that if he didn't drive me, someone else would and at least he was being upfront about this. I tried calling my doctor so I can get the okay, but the office was closed.
My mom called me informing me not to go or she'd press charges for kidnapping on who ever was going to drive me there. So, I ended up calling the non-emergency line and explained my situation. They sent a cop over to help clarify some laws (maybe because I am a minor, I'm not too sure). They told me to get in contact with my health provider, and told my mom if she were to call the police for my "kidnapping" she'd be charged with mischief or something. So this is where I need you. What do I do. I have been seeing both my doctor and my dermatologist, and last weekend I was asked to come in to get a kenalog shot in my butt but also was swinging by to get some lab work requested by my doctor.
Right after I got the shot, I walked down to the lab and had quite a bit of blood taken; around 10-12 vials of blood for various tests for my liver function(s). My question is, would getting this much blood taken right after my shot have an effect on the dose? I know it kind of sounds dumb, but it's been about 4 days since the kenalog shot and it doesn't seem like the shot has had any effect on my symptoms so far...
My 6 year old border collie mix with all the open sores has been diagnosed with Pemphigus Foliaceus. This is an autoimmune issue as I had suspected from the time the sores appeared. He has gotten his first dose of Prednisone this afternoon. Has anyone had experience with this condition? Will he always be on steroids the rest of his life? Any other helpful suggestions for a speedy recovery? Should I feed him a special diet?
(To appease the bots:
All,
Please do not purchase any kittens (MC or Siberian) from breeder Reigning Cats in Bradenton, FL. I just recently purchased my 2nd kitten from her. My first died at 2.5 years of age after developing FIP, which is passed genetically. As a result of that, the owner, Karon, offered me a 2nd kitten for half-price. I accepted that and selected my kitten, who I named Curious George.
I thought things were fishy when she had me pick him up at 8 weeks. If you're not familiar with MC kittens, they develop slower than other kittens, and should not be taken from their mother or littermates sooner than 12 weeks. But he was, and he brought feline herpes virus into my home, and now my other two cats, who have never been sick a day in their lives, have it as well. Charlie - a 6 yo s/h creamcicle tabby - has a vicious case of conjunctivitis. Georgie - 5mo cream MC - is so congested with mucous that he has to breathe through his mouth every few seconds, and whenever he shakes his head, mucous goes flying everywhere.
ETA: In October of 2020, at 6 months of age, Georgie became ill with dry FIP. Thanks to the generosity of Karon from Reigning Cats, I was able to pay for his medicine. He has been treated (85 days on once-a-day injections + 85 more days of observation) and is considered cured, but he has lasting effects from it, specifically his breathing. Even though he showed improvement after the very first shot, it was a terrifying and traumatizing 170 days for me and 85 for him.
It's not just the two kittens I've received. A fellow purchaser of a kitten from the same litter as Georgie is having a significant problem. Her kitten has an autoimmune disease called Pemphigus Foliaceus - it's causing his little paws to scab up and crust off. His paws! She has had him for 3 months, and has spent over $2k at the vet. And, of course, he has herpes. Both kittens left the cattery with pussy, weeping eyes (my vet said it was from the FHV). Additionally, I have gotten to personally know many other individuals whose kittens that came from RC developed FIP.
Please understand that I'm not posting this to be malicious against this woman - I want to save everyone else the heartache they may likely go through, and will continue to go through, because of the high occurrences of illness in cats who have left her cattery. *But every sweet kitty needs a good home, and if you are bound and determined to get one from there, please make sure you have the best
... keep reading on reddit β‘I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!

Pilot on me!!
Nothing, he was gladiator.
Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
When I got home, they were still there.
What did 0 say to 8 ?
" Nice Belt "
So What did 3 say to 8 ?
" Hey, you two stop making out "
I won't be doing that today!

This morning, my 4 year old daughter.
Daughter: I'm hungry
Me: nerves building, smile widening
Me: Hi hungry, I'm dad.
She had no idea what was going on but I finally did it.
Thank you all for listening.
