Welcome to the ninety-fourth week of /r/progrockmusic's Album of the Week! Last week we discussed Transatlantic's Bridge Across Forever and that was lovely.
If you'd like to peruse previous weeks' discussions, please visit the archive.
Not strictly prog (what else is new). Prog-periphery is a better classification, if we're being pedantic.

Hello all,
I've always felt different to other people and I've recently felt more connected to music, technology, robotics and different systems of information than the emotions of other people. I like albums that capture this frame of mind so I can feel less lonely and because I make music of my own & work with electronics and aspire to transcend humanity in a transhumanist kind of way.
With that being said, I'm looking for some albums that are gloomy, with vocal manipulation, a bit of ambient/spacey production and some kind of experimental/futuristic/alienation/technology-focused aesthetic. For example, something like Daft Punk or Kraftwerk would not fit the bill since they have robotic vocals and the right aesthetic but their music is always upbeat dancing music rather than gloomy and moody and as a result, it's always seemed corny, gimmicky and unappealing to me. Some works that do fit the bill of what I'm describing:
I understand this is quite a niche preference/style but I'd be buzzing if anyone had any suggestions that would fit. Thanks!
Peter Gabriel made a German version of his third album named Ein Deutsches Album (A German Album).
Have you heard it? What can you say about his German singing and pronunciation?
P. S. Yes, I know he "germanized" his fourth album too.

Peter's second soundtrack consists of the music found in Martin Scorsese's controversial film, The Last Temptation of Christ. But if you've only seen the movie, you're not getting the full picture. Released a year after the film, Passion included additional and more developed pieces to make a cohesive record.
Peter:
>After we finished mixing the film, there were some unfinished ideas that needed developing and I took some extra time to complete the record. There are several pieces that were not able to be included in the film and I felt the record should be able to stand as a separate body of work. I chose the filmβs working title β Passion.^(1)
Peter had experimented with samples on Security, but would really take it to the next level on this album, incorporating a wide variety of middle eastern and north African influences, while also working with a number musicians from various parts of Asia and Africa.
Peter:
>We recorded some of the finest singers and soloists in the field of world music and set the score on a backdrop of traditional North African rhythms and sounds. It was a wonderful experience working with such different and idiosyncratic musicians.^(1)
"The Feeling Begins" is a haunting opener, beginning with an ambient synthesizer and a chilling melody coming from the traditional Armenian piece, "The Wind Subsides" played on an Armenian douduk. What really gives this song a unique feel is the percussion. Both modern and traditional drumming is present, and displays the overall vision Pete had for the record:
Peter:
>The brief for The Last Temptation Of Christ was to create something that had references to that time and that part of the world, but that had its own character and was to be timeless in a way.
>
>[...]
>
>Scorsese had asked for a new type of score that was neither ancient nor modern, that was not a pastiche but had clear references to the region, traditions and atmospheres, but was in itself a living thing.^(1)
"Gethsemane" is a track I find to be particularly terrifying, in an understated way. It features buzzing flute samples similar to what was used on "[

Will So remain champion of the studio albums for a third round in a row?, or will Up dethrone the king? Only your votes can decide.
After this ballot, I'll be hosting a new series which I'm dubbing the Extended Gabriel Discography Contest, in which we'll see Gabriel's other works put into three day, ballot based, battle royals. Expect to see soundtracks like OVO and Birdy, alongside live albums. If you want to see an album enter the fray, recommend it below and I'll add it to the list. Once this series is finished, I'll put the winner of that against the winner of the studio album contest.
Anyway, for now we must determine this rounds winner. In three days, the all important question will be (sort of) answered.
I saw this idea in this forum post and I admit, it got me excited! Iβd love this!

Released in 2010
Unlike the other cover albums previously talked about, which either consist of songs from one particular artist or genre, Scratch My Back contains twelve songs from twelve seemingly unrelated artists, and yet somehow manages to be one of the most consistent sounding albums of any of them. Itβs a fully orchestral album, just like New Blood, and the large arrangements suit many of the songs incredibly well, including David Bowieβs βHeroesβ, Elbowβs βMirrorballβ. And Arcade Fireβs βMy Body is a Cageβ, which all have amazing build-ups. Another favorite of mine is βThe Listening Windβ from Talking Heads. An intense song about American involvement in Africa. While the original is quite good, thereβs something about the strings paired with Peter's emotional performance that really take it to the next level. We then come to Lou Reedβs βThe Power of the Heartβ. Without knowing the original you might think that this was just another great Peter Gabriel song. Simple yet hopeful lyrics with passionate vocals - a formula thatβs served Peter quite well in the past, and continues to do so here.
The last four songs however are what keep this album from being even higher on this list. βApres Moiβ feels a bit drawn out and isnβt the most compelling song to begin with anyway, and βStreet Spirit (Fade Out)β has a needlessly stripped-down arrangement which doesnβt do the song much justice at all. βI Think Itβs Going to Rain Todayβ is probably the song that sounds most like its original counterpart, and while Peter does do a nice job, I simply donβt find the song itself to be all that interesting.
