A list of puns related to "Pancake (surname)"
Random question I had when reading Anton Pannekoek recently
According to https://forebears.io/ the directional surnames are ranked in popularity as:
West - 1324th most common surname in the world
North - 9,564
East - 14,476
South - 17,387
That crepèd up on me.
I have plotted all surnames for the 1901 Census of Scotland. There were some 55,000 unique surnames in this census:

Okay so a little bit of info on this story.
I 29(m) have been brought up with my biological parents spilt. Only ever saw my dad on weekends until I became 16 I decided to move out of my mums and in with him.
My mum while separated to my dad got married and changed my name illegally to his.
So once I left my mums home I legally changed my name to my birth name on the birth certificate which wasn't my dads surname it was my mums maiden name I kept it like this as I didnt want my step fathers name and I didn't want to cause a problem between both sides of the family as I wanted it to be neutral
I know its a little confusing.
So I no longer live with my dad still see him all the time and he insists on me changing it to his surname to keep the family line going as he says. But I'll always know who my dad is tell and if I have kids myself they'll always know who their grandad was without having to change my name. He always tries to make me feel bad with it that I've kept my mums maiden name so am I the asshole here not doing his wishes?

Add to the list what you can think of! This just for fun coz thereβs anyway too much negative news around the world.
I feel like Uru wasted a chance by not giving her characters surnames, I know you're thinking "what the hell are you talking about?" But let me explain.
In a world where abilities and power levels decide your social standing I think Uru should have reinforced the importance of surnames because of how abilities are inherited therefore making most if not all members of a certain family (Arlo, Sera and John's mom) be high/god tiers. I think that the power and influence of their families should've been more prominent in the story.
That could of been reinforced by addressing the surnames of the families. For example:
"The Shieldmans, most of their members are high ranking politicians in the Authorities"
" The Clockwork's, They have a monopoly on the tech industry"
"The Aurarios, the family has total control of the banks of the world"
I find it strange that most Germans, who are normally very concerned about their privacy, will give their surname when answering the phone. I just say hello and have often been accused of being rude for not giving my name before the caller identifies themselves. In these days of identity thefts, spam calls etc. I find it quite unbelievable. Don't get me started on having to have your surname on your doorbell for everyone to see.
I got married recently, and i haven't changed my surname - mostly because of the hassle it is, (or the hassle i assume it to be - i need to change it on all my ids and bank accounts, right? ) . My husband is okay with it, But my in laws have asked whether it would impact / halter/ cause issues later, wrt property, banking, etc - and I'd like to know if this is something that actually happens? If yes, is there anything that can be done that's easier than changing my surname?
Edit : thank you everyone for the upvotes and the answers! And thank goodness such a subreddit exists!
Like, I'm just genuinely fascinated by it, but I can see how it might be seen as ... like "so, what set of stereotypes should I ascribe to you?" or "but where are you from really?"
Based on this German article of a father who wrote a letter to his infant son on why they circumcised them. Source: https://taz.de/Brief-eines-Vaters-an-seinen-beschnittenen-Sohn/!5191892/
This is pure rage fuel.
>Dear Elijah,
>
>
>
>So now you have it behind you, and maybe it is only your business. But your mother said that maybe I should write it down, how it was with your circumcision, so that one day, that is, now, when you can read, you can read how it was back then. And now in the newspaper too, because it affects some - and many don't know anything about circumcision.
>
>
>
>First of all: It was already clear before you were born that you would be circumcised. Your mother is Jewish - and before we got married, she and I made a deal that you might find a bit banal, but which had consequences for you: Our children, if we should have any, would have my surname and their religion. And that meant for you: circumcision!
>
>
>
>Now you have done it very cleverly, because you were born five weeks early - and thus, as a premature baby, withdrew from circumcision. Because according to religious laws, this should actually take place on the eighth day after the birth. But you don't circumcise a premature baby. That would be too dangerous. And in the hospital where the circumcision was supposed to take place, we were told to wait until you were one year old. Then your little body, more precisely: your liver in particular, can cope with the general anesthesia that is necessary for a circumcision by an experienced surgeon, which we naturally wanted out of concern for you.
>
>
>
>So we took it easy. But as soon as you were one year old, we always set circumcision appointments, which you then, slightly perfidious, let burst again and again: Sometimes you had a laceration on your forehead, which is why the anesthetist refused an operation. Sometimes you were in such a bad mood because of getting used to the daycare that we didn't want to give you an operation. But you got a cold several times shortly before the crucial week - and even then the surgeons did not want to accept the risk of the operation.

>Your parents made a new attempt in the late summer of 2007 - you were just two and a half years old. A holiday week near the Baltic Sea should cure your constant cold, that's what
I'm only 18 so not really important for me at the moment, but I've always joked with my mom I'd never change my surname for any man. She did it and regretted not at least keeping hers. Given the Balkans are really traditional, I'm wondering how other women and men from here feel about this? I strongly care about keeping my name, but I wouldn't want to disappoint my future spouse either
I just wanted to put a post up to say thank you to all the people on this sub who helped me pick a new name! After weighing everything over I finally came to a decision and have now submitted all the relevant paperwork, waiting to receive my new IDs soon. Just the tedious process of updating my bank and everywhere else with the change, but I'm just glad things are finally in motion.
My full name from now on will be:
Thomas Arthur Bailey
I didn't have a middle name previously, but thought I might as well choose one given the circumstances, went with my great grandfathers name, who died when I was quite young but have only heard good things from my family about the life he lead. Plus I think it flows quite well.
Thank you again namenerds!
I (21M) am relatively good at cooking, while my girlfriend(20F) is not, largely relying on things like macaroni, instant noodles, and other varieties of instant food.
Tonight, we went to the store because I realized instead of eating take out again, I could make myself pancakes and save a couple bucks, so I brought my girlfriend along with me, and while I was discussing the plan with her she chimed in with "Ooh, can you make crepes?" To which I replied with "No, they're harder and I don't want to deal with that". Keep in mind it's 10 pm at this point and I just want to make food so I'm not starving in the morning. She goes on to tell me "they're not that hard, you just add extra milk and..." And I cut her off and told her that she could make them then. She got quiet about it and we made our purchase and got on our way. It's worth noting at this point that she had already eaten dinner at her place with her family, so I was cooking for myself, not for us.
Later, after I finished making the pancakes in the pancake maker I got a while back, I sat down and while we were talking, had called them waffles, and corrected myself before saying something along the lines of "Eh, pancakes, waffles, same thing" to which she jumped in and was like "crepes". I replied with "I don't want to hear the word crepes out of you again. You've got a 1 month ban on the word crepes.(This was a joke)" Half jokingly, but there was a bit of seriousness in it.
There was a bit of back and forth, but I ultimately summed it up that it seemed rude to me that she would immediately try and change the food that I was making for myself to something that she wanted despite already eating, and told her it was like if I said i was making Sushi and she asked me to make Sashimi instead. Yes I know those aren't necessarily equivalent, but the point stands.
She got up and left, and when I went to talk to her, she started crying saying that I was rude for calling her out about constantly mentioning crepes, but I feel that her trying to change the meal I was making for myself to better suit her wants was out of line.
Edit: I went down and we discussed what had happened and why things panned out the way that they did, she apologized for coming across as pushy, and I apologized for being a douchenozzle and then we danced a bit and went to bed.
one asks another did the 4 year old treat you right? No,he flipped me off
For some reason Greg introduces himself as 'Greg Davis'. Is this a regional thing? Because he has Welsh parents maybe?
I'm rather unsatisfied with my surname for a few non-serious reasons.
Has anyone changed their surname?
Was it worth it?
How did you decide which one to go for?
What impact did it have on your life (hassles when providing ID etc)?
Any other things to consider?
