A list of puns related to "Oral contraceptive pill"
Does wincef interfere in yazz contraceptive's effectiveness? 21 female, 158 cm and 48 kilograms
Mygosh I'm a clinical clerk, 4th yr med student in my country, and I'm only now starting to understand how OCPs work. One question I have that nobody seems to be able to answer is the use of continuous OCP use, wherein you don't have a hormone-free week and you take active pills everyday. Is this a different formulation from regular OCPs? Do I just prescribe the same type of pill and just instruct them to skip the hormone-free week and start a new pack when they finish? Or is there a special formulation that's meant to be taken continuously? Also, I've heard about risks of endometrial cancer since you don't have withdrawal bleeding with continuous OCP use, but I'm not sure since don't OCPs reduce the risk of endometrial cancer in the first place?
I'm on a continuous oral contraceptive (1 mg norethindrone acetate and 20ug ethinyl estradiol), and suspect that the disappearance of the cyclic breast pain and occasional spotting I used to get may mean I'm going through menopause, if not already there. However, it is not worth the risk for me to stop it and see if I still get periods, because I have endometriosis.
What I am trying to figure out, and having trouble googling, is how my regimen compares to actual HRT? Does there have to be any rush to switch, or risk going off the pill to be sure one way or the other (which I will not do). Can anyone offer insight, or links to resources? I couldn't see any discussion of this in the wiki.
I used to be completely normal, but after taking the pill I began getting sour discharge and a strange, sometimes fishy smell. Iβve been tested multiple times for STIs, BV, etc and itβs not that.
Was just wondering if anyone had experienced the same thing? Would love to return my microbiome to its pre-contraceptive state. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there a list of the bacteria that should make up the vaginal microbiome? I had mine checked a while ago and I tested positive for
Streptococcus anginosus 24% Prevotella timonensis 23% Enterococcus faecalis 17% Anaerococcus hydrogenalis 7% Finegoldia magna 7% Strep parasanguinis 3% Peptoniphilus harei 2% Prevotella biva
Though I donβt know which ones are meant to be there. Any help would be hugely appreciated! β€οΈ
Hi everyone. I had excision surgery on the 30th December and my surgeon has now recommended that I start on an oral contraceptive to help slow the regrowth of endometriosis. I have previously been on Rigevidon seven years ago, but donβt remember having the best experience on it.
My surgeon suggested the mini-pill, i.e. progesterone only pill, or a combined pill taking 4 packs in a row and having a period every 3 months.
After doing some reading online about the different options, Iβve read that one of the side effects of the progesterone only pill is acne. Iβd rather avoid this, as Iβve just managed to clear up a particularly bad flare-up of acne with antibiotics etc.
With the combined pill, there are several different options and itβs a bit overwhelming trying to figure out the best one, so I thought Iβd ask here. Rigevidon seems to be a popular choice for doctors to prescribe in the UK, and I also recall being on Gedarel for a short period of time (before being switched to another hormone therapy 1 1/2 years ago).
Does anyone have any experience with the combined pill that can offer some advice? Iβd really just like to know which pill people have had experience with, either good or bad, so that I can research and make an informed decision when speaking to my GP on Monday. I havenβt been able to make an appointment with my Endo specialist due to COVID, however was able to email him, where he suggested either the mini-pill or a combined pill.
My wife has been given a prescription for Brevinor, an oral contraceptive pill. We are really struggling to find a chemist that can supply any of this medicine. Reading online it looks like Pfizer have stopped making it (either temporarily or entirely).
Has anyone been able to get hold of this or have any ideas where we can get some? Anyone else struggling to get it?
Switching to a different strength or combination is not an option. Ingredients are: Ethinylestradiol 35 micrograms / Norethisterone 500 micrograms.
I am currently ringing around every chemist I can find (good husband) to avoid the side effect of an unhappy wife.
Note: This is not an "oh you can't have unprotected sex sucks to be you" question... in this case she is using the pill to help control her periods and the associated cramping.
Mods: We have a prescription from the GP. This is a supply question, not a medical advice question.
I had excision surgery at the end of December and have now been prescribed a combined contraceptive pill to help slow the regrowth of endometriosis. I got my period on the 27/2 and commenced on the pill (Gedarel) on the first day of my period as instructed by my specialist. I thought that it would stop my period a few days after taking it, but instead Iβve just been bleeding constantly since. Iβve been taking the pill for 8 days now at the same time each day.
I apologise for being TMI, but on days 5-7 the blood was black as if my period was close to finishing, however there was quite a substantial amount of the dark blood compared to how it would normally be at the end of my period. Now on day 8, Iβm bleeding fresh blood again as if Iβm back on day 1 of my cycle. My usual cycle before starting on the pill lasted around 6/7 days.
Has anyone else experienced this? I know that spotting can occur while using the oral contraceptive pill, but this is just a full on period and it doesnβt seem to be stopping anytime soon.
Any advice would be much appreciated! I hope you are all well.
Hello everyone! I'm doing my undergraduate senior project on Improving Oral Contraceptives. The project's goal is to improve oral contraceptives through policies that encourage increased medical research into their side effects. I'm looking for survey participants who take or have taken oral contraceptives to share their experiences.
Here's the survey link: http://wpi.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_78aYwHNpyZrdxZk
Thank you!
What is the latest consensus/scientifical research about the maximum age to take the pill? I mean, till what age can a woman still take it? thanks
Thatβs what me (18F) and my boyfriend (20M) have been using for the past year and no issues. He has never finished inside of me and I donβt like condoms. However today my mum told me she is pro life. I am so disgusted by her but Iβve ignored her and moved on because I canβt change her views on things no matter how stupid they are. Now Iβm freaking out because Iβm worried about getting pregnant and not being allowed an abortion.
I got diagnosed with pcos 2 years ago but I really didn't do anything about it. Now, the symptoms are severe. Facial hair, receding hairline, irregular periods made it hard for me to avoid visiting a gynecologist. She prescribed me Diane 35 (oral contraceptive pills) and also told me that you'll be good as long as you're taking them and you'll be back to normal once you stop using them. This has left me confused. Is it fine to use them? And also told me to take those pills for 3 months. This is kinda scary because 3 months is a long period. So, pls help me through this.
I would like to know if oral contraceptives pills are optional or i really need to take it to treat my pcos. Because I believe oral contraceptives pills make me more fat? And i hate the adverse effects that Iβve been experiencing.
Hi! I was wondering if someone gets pregnant on the combined pill, for example, and keeps taking it, would she bleed on the week off, after the 21 days of taking it? Wouldn't there be high levels of estrogen and progesterone endogenously produced to avoid the bleeding from lack of hormone? Or only after a certain time of pregnancy this would occur? Thanks a lot! It's not really a personal question, but to follow the rules, here's my information: female, 22 yo, Brazilian, med student, 167cm, 78kg, I don't smoke and am not taking any medication rn. (English is obviously not my first language, sorry for any mistakes)
So in my early twenties I started to always keep a box of tampons and a pack of contraceptive pills (not the morning after one, the one you take regularly) at home for the occasion that whomever I'm with at the moment might need one of these items, but forgot them or something. I also do that when I'm single. I restock whenever it's almost gone and this practice has ben very useful on many occasion.
My current gf thought it was surprising when we first started dating, but she said in a good way. Now on the other hand this topic came up with some friends yesterday and they thought it's super 'weird af' to do that and they've never heard of a guy buying tampons or pills just in case.
Edit: The BC is the one prescribed to 80% of women where I am and I get the prescription renewed whenever necessary by my gp. He thinks it's ok to have a pack at home for safety reasons when you're sexualy active.
Edit 2: I am in Austria, getting BC is not an issue if you're older than 12 and sexualy active - even as a man. My insurance covers it too. According to this comment by a professional I'm not the only one:

Also idk why having emergency bc at home means I'm not using condoms with strangers. I'm sure this will surprise some of you, but it's not either or.
My girlfriend and I had unprotected sex this week. Since we are from a very conservative location, we were unable to get the usual over the counter medications like plan b. But I did get her Loette - an oral contraceptive that comes 21 tabs per strip each with 0.1mg levonorgestrel. She ingested the first tab within 48 hrs and the second within 72 hrs. But I read that the dosage required for the pill to work as an emergency pill is 1.0 - 1.5 mg of levonorgestrel. It is now 96 hrs since the sex and I have asked her to up the dosage to 5 tabs a day. Please let me know if it is safe enough to consume 5 tabs a day and what the chances are of her getting pregnant? Going to the doctor in my country for this without being married is dangerous. Thank you for understanding.
ok so i have been on the pill for well over a year for heavy irregular periods and acne and then have become sexually active with/without protection in the past 9 months .
i know that the pill thickens the mucus to stop sperm from reaching the egg but i notice thick discharge on my undies and even around my labia minora? when i touch it with my finger, it rubs off and almost becomes grainy like on my fingers [possibly same sensation as lint when its heavy!!] [almost like it has secreted from my vagina]. i have no itchiness, stinging while peein, smells or anything that points to an STI and im wondering if any other ladies notice this? it gets really annoying as it dries on my undies and if there is alot that will be awkward when it comes to sex.
thanks xx
Hi! I'm a current design student working to gather research on the habits and feelings surrounding oral contraceptives. If you fit the description above and want to help out, the survey is completely anonymous and only a few questions. Thanks!
