A list of puns related to "Non Fiction (film)"
I recently watched Sans Soleil and it was the first time in years where I felt that I was seeing one of the greatest films ever made.
If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it. I'm looking for more films with a unique approach to non-fiction filmmaking. I welcome any and all suggestions, they don't have to be so free-form and abstract.
Of course, I'm aware of most of the well-known/acclaimed ones, such as Man With a Movie Camera, Shoah, Grey Gardens, As I Was Moving Ahead Occasionally I Saw Brief Glimpses of Beauty, Tie Xi Qu: West of the Tracks, Baraka, Koyaanisqatsi, The Act of Killing, My Winnipeg, The House is Black, etc etc
Quite often non-fiction films, based on an event, or someone's life, are nominated for Best Original Screenplay, despite the story not being original at all.
Sometimes, non-fiction films are nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, if it the script is based more on a specific historic document or previously published biography.
How do you think screenplays non-fiction films should be handled categorically at the Oscars? Should all of them compete in Adapted? Should all compete in Original? Should they add a third category specifically aimed at non-fiction screenplays? Should they continue the way they are?
I want to study the art of cinema and I don't know where to start. What works would you recommend to read? Thank you!
I'm speaking of your average, everyday people. Not your dictators or some-such like Hitler. I was watching Band of Brothers and I was thinking of how Cpt. Sobel and 1st Lt. Dike are portrayed and I wondered how their families felt about it. Are they upset or indifferent?
Thanks in advance as I'm terrible at responding to responses.
Seeking original ideas to develop together.
So Iβm making a career change into film and TV production and something that has always sparked both my creativity and motivation is when I can identify with characters in books, TV shows and movies. Surprisingly, Iβve had a pretty difficult time finding shows & movies about filmmakers and producers (aspiring or established). The only ones Iβve come across have been about news producers, which is not what Iβm looking for.
Before fully diving into my own research for a good book, I figured Iβd start here to see if anyone has read any! Looking for non-fiction books about the lives of filmmakers & producers (non-educational/textbook) OR fiction where the main characters are aspiring or established filmmakers & producers.
Any recommendation is helpful!
Hi!
Iβm looking to read more non-fiction books about film and TV. I mostly read textual analyses, but Iβm also open to more history type books on the subject.
If anyone has any recommendations for quintessential books about TV and movies, please comment! Iβm also interested in any books on LGBT representation in media and horror film and TV shows.
Books Iβve already read:
βMen Women and Chainsawsβ by Carol J Clover
βMonsters in the Closetβ by Harry M Benshoff
βThe Celluloid Closetβ by Vito Russo
βThe Horror Filmβ by Peter Hutchings
βShock Valueβ by John Waters (and almost all of his other autobiographical works)
βProfoundly Disturbingβ by βJoe Bob Briggsβ
βOffensive Filmsβ by Mikita Brottman
βThe Prime Time Closetβ by Stephan Tropiano
Thanks!
It could be about just any topic.
Like the title says, can anyone recommend a non-fiction book about the history behind Spaghetti Westerns? I'd like to see some history and also some critical theory in it! I've found several on amazon but the reviews are mixed. Thanks in advance!!!
Thanks in advance for your help!
Dear [agentβs name],
I am seeking representation for EMBOLDENED SOCIAL MEDIA SHORTCUTS, a 29,000-word business how-to book. I am writing to you because [insert reason why they caught my eye, i.e. similar book theyβve helped publish]. My book summarizes over a decade of marketing experiences, leading initiatives for companies such as [omitted for privacy purposes; I have worked for large, important companies]
With the COVID-19 pandemic pushing brands to go digital, EMBOLDENED SOCIAL MEDIA SHORTCUTS goes beyond the basics and teaches business owners how to:
- Get their YouTube videos at the top of search results from Day 1
- Figure out the best posting times and hashtags to use on Instagram, to reach their target clients
- Harness their likeability factor on Facebook, so that clients thank them for selling to them
- Easily create videos for TikTok that can then be used on YouTube, IGTV, ads, etc.
Making use of exclusive, analytics-led research done by the author and presented with straightforward, step-by-step instructions, this book teaches the logic behind the ever-changing platforms and their algorithms. Broadcasting a brand on social media becomes second nature, easy, and fun.
EMBOLDENED MARKETING SHORTCUTS is the go-to reference book for the business owner who wears too many hats and doesnβt know how they ended up with the βsocial media marketingβ one. These days, there is a need and demand for social media marketing knowledge, outside of free resources and formal education. Reasons for this include:
Very few business owners actually have a formal background in marketing. 56% of American business owners have only attained a high school diploma. Yet, 96% of small business owners actively use social media as a marketing tool and 47% of them do all of their marketing, all on their own. That means there are at least 14.42 million small business owners that need reliable social media marketing resources, outside of formal education. And this, just in the United States.

... keep reading on reddit β‘Any books or documentaries that explain the use and effects of morphine and heroin addicts during the following periods Post Civil War/1920s/1930s/1940s/1950s /1960s just those times interest me especially the 1920s Specifically.
If nothing non fiction then I'll take fiction work of early addicts.
Ps. I already read all books by william s Borrouqgh and hunter s. T.
Also to kill a mocking bird (thenold morphine addicted lady)
Also seen Babylon Berlin (about a late 1920s heroin addicted Detective)
The book's cover was a greenish T. rex or something like that with exaggerated, Hollywood style sunglasses on. The book itself then went on to describe the history of dinosaurs in movies, but it was pretty clearly aimed at a young audience, with a lot of jokes and the book itself not being super thick or anything. Gamera, Godzilla, and others were also mentioned in the book.
Hey guys! I'm trying to come up with ideas for a mini doc for my class. Any advice?
I was about to make a post asking what books you guys have read in the past month or two that you would highly recommend.
Then I thought maybe we should have a book club!
I really value your opinions and enjoy all my engagements here, even when thereβs disagreement.
What do you think?
Edit: Mods, is this a possibility
Hi there! I'm looking for some non-fiction recommendations as the title says. My country is only now going into more post-Covid normalcy after almost 2 years of on-off lockdowns. It feels like all conversations at the moment just come back around to the pandemic and/or politics in some way and honestly, I'm just exhausted.
I read a lot of non-fiction already, but most books I've read in the last couple of years are feminist works or about women in general with feminist themes. I love these reads and am passionate about the subject, but I really need a short break for a little while. Along with enjoyment, I also use my reading as a bit of conversation starter with people. So I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for non-fiction that could help cultivate interesting discussion but without the politics?
I'm really open to absolutely anything but in the past have enjoyed books on cultures, language, Old Hollywood, true crime, and Scientology.
After all, couldn't they just claim that they're making a film out of the same facts that the journalist wrote about?
