Hillary has made $21 million dollars from paid speeches in private events. We would all love the listen to such amazing speeches and we could learn a lot from them. It would be great if she releases them as her supporters believe they are "almost certainly harmless speeches". Making millions from private speeches is a lot different than giving free speeches in public events. By the way Senators can't give paid speeches.

For example I followed Kacey Musgravesβ sister for a while on insta and it was fascinating to see the different lives they had; for example her sister is a photographer and lived in a tiny house for a while, and she has a cute baby and husband and would post when Kacey came to visit so you got a different POV of what a celebrityβs life and schedule were like.
I am here to π€ͺ heckle with the idea in recent BTB ep on fitness influencers that it was not shitty to be anti vax in the days of variolation. Which is the name of the πͺπͺ cutting of the arm and putting scab tissue into it to prevent smallpox.^1

While it was likely practiced before, quietly, the first time variolation was brought to the attention of the white settlers in the future USA was via an enslaved man known to us as Onesimus. ^2
Cotton Mathers was a minister in Boston. ^3 Because he was soooo π Christian he would not acquire for himself a slave. His congregation felt this was an intolerable situation and so as π a gift procured a man whose true name or precise affiliations are not known AFAIK. ^4 Since it would be awfully π ββοΈ gauche to turn down a gift, Mather π€₯ very reluctantly relented and accepted his role as personal enslaver in 1706.

But the long and short of it is that Onesimus shared with Mather 𧩠the technique of variolation, widely practiced in πAfrica as well as πIndia, China, Turkey and presumably elsewhere outside western europe where it was only recently starting to become a little bit known.
Mather believed Onesimus and decided to share the information. You will read some places different accounts of Mathers' attitudes towards Onesimus. Some are quite π apologetic giving the idea they were close friends. My impression having read a bunch of accounts is he had a grudging respect that could be summed up as " β οΈ You can never let that one out of your sight, he's cunning. π " In particular Mathers was preoccupied for the entirety of their relationship by Onesimus' β refusal to even go through the motions of converting to βͺ Christianity. A battle of wills it seems πhe won in the end when Mathers eventually graciously allowed him to πΈ purchase his own freedom because he had grown so frustrated and could no longer stand to be around the man he so reluctantly enslaved. π€
So this was how variolation came to the USA. This sharing of knowledge was taking place contemporaneously if not prior to the first inklings of such techniques making their way to western europe

Sometimes though, you can't respond to what someone is saying : when you are watching or listening to a talk show or a podcast, when some politic makes a public statement,... even social media is no place to exchange ideas nowadays.It's just snarky punchlines, trolls and people not listening to each other. And it really gets on my nerves to witness all that, without the opportunity to respond, to act.
I know Stoicism is not about disengaging from public life, but what I just described... to me, it's just pointless, provocative chatter that happens to be omnipresent in media.
I've cut out most of my social media presence, and I am considering cutting any opinion media, and most of the news..
What would be a Stoic way to deal with this ?

When I was much younger I opened a live journal account to vent and rant about my life. As I was only 12 at the time, I never considered what would be good/safe information to share. I forgot about the account after a couple of years and only recently thought to go back and check it.
Boy, was I an idiot back then. Between the venting and the teenage angst about my love life and friends, I also managed to leave the following information publicly available:
- full name
- full birthday and age
- home town
- high school name
There's enough information on there to scare the bejesus out of me.
Here's the kicker. I actually know the password and the log-in information, so I should be able to log in. Unfortunately, they changed their password security level at some point and my password is now deemed insecure. I can't "recover" the password because I apparently don't know the email used with the account. (Infuriatingly, I do actually have access to the two emails I used when I was 12, but apparently neither of these emails are associated with the account. I find that strange, but whatever..)
I've tried emailing live journal and have gone through their support system but so far I've not received a reply (it's been over a week).
I really don't care about accessing the account itself but just want this information made private or deleted. Is there anything I can do to compel them to remove it?!
To make matters worse, LJ is now a Russian-owned company and is apparently 'subject to Russian law' under its terms of use (this is what I read on the wiki.) I'm actually based in the UK as well. Posting on the US forum as there's no Russian legal advice page(?) so hoping someone can at least point me in the right direction.
Hi all, I live in western Massachusetts. The Hunting success rate in my state is about 20%. I am hoping to start a yearly trip to Maryland to fill the freezer with a few does. Iβm looking for any tips you can provide on public land hunting opportunities in Maryland. I hunt with it all - bow, rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader. Would this be a waste of time due to hunting pressure?
