Apes we need to talk, we need to focus

This has been fun and games, but the nature of this sub has slowly morphed over the months. From hard hitting DD and a fixation on triggering the MOASS, to memes and spamming RC tweets.

I come to you only as a voice of reminder, for I am a dumb ape who drives a bus for a living. DRS is the way. But we need to focus. The hedgies have far more resources, and influence, but they are in survival mode. We are on the brink of change. True change. No politician, nor governing body will come to aid. It’s up to you, and me.

I must admit, I’ve stopped buying shares. I thought this was in the bag, and the MOASS just around the corner. I bought LRC with the money that should have been going to GME. This is war, and the only side acting like it are the hedge cucks.

We’re on a year now since DFV started this; but we need to finish this fight. I’m tired of stressing over this, I’m tired of seeing just meme after meme after meme. We’ve become an echo chamber. “This is the way” “MOASS is tomorrow” etc.

RC has our backs, but do we have his? We’ve been joking around and farting about, but the hedgies been putting their nose to the grindstone. And I’m worried they might win.

Tomorrow is my monthly pay day, and I’m going to do my bills, account for food and diapers, and every other available cent is going to ComputerShare. I’m done fucking around, are you? This has been all fun and games. But I’m out for blood, remember 2008? Where one of the greatest financial crimes happened? Where no one went to jail? Where we the tax payers flipped the bill? Or how about Ken G lying under oath and never being touched?

I’m asking you to remember the reason beyond tendies, I’m asking you to go to war, I’m asking you to get angry. They will fuck us, but only if we let them.

Edit: thanks apes for the awards and updoots. This was more of a vent than anything, but I’m hoping to remind others like me this fight isn’t over.

Some notes from Bryan Danielson's appearance on The Casual Conversations Podcast

You can find the entire Podcast episode here. I've only included some of the topics discussed, but there's absolutely a lot more that was left out, so I'd highly encourage you to check it out.

  • There wasn’t necessarily one moment that made him decide to go to AEW, though like many he was very moved by the Brodie Lee Tribute show. Feels like AEW went above and beyond, especially for his son.

  • He watches a lot of Zack Sabre, Jr. “He’s my favorite wrestler to watch” because ZSJ’s style of wrestling is blowing away anything that Bryan had been doing before coming to WWE. He thought “I’d love to be able to do more stuff like that” and WWE basically just wants “Yes-Guy Daniel Bryan” because that’s marketable. As someone who “yearns for freedom”, felt trapped in certain ways. His favorite period in WWE was being The Planet’s Champion where he wasn’t doing the Yes chant at all.

  • He ended up reaching out to people that he normally doesn’t talk to and essentially asked “Where can I best be of service?” to professional wrestling. Feels it’s important to give back both in his personal and professional life.

  • WWE would’ve allowed him to do some shows in New Japan but didn't know to what level. Given the pandemic, the need to go over to Japan or Mexico isn’t urgent for him.

  • Felt like coming back from retirement opened him up more to the idea of going elsewhere because he’s always loved being an independent wrestler. A big factor in originally signing with WWE was not being sure whether his health could sustain wrestling as an independent for much longer. “I didn’t look at it as cashing out… but it was totally cashing out.”

  • When he first came to WWE, William Regal gave him advice of not to be hung up on not getting a push or being frustrated with creative. “That check you get each month is for all the work it took you to get to WWE. This is where you set yourself up for the future, and any good matches or stories you have are just the cherry on top.” Now being a husband and father, it resonates with him more.

  • Some of his favorite and most fun matches of his career are with WWE. Points to working with Kofi Kingston at WrestleMania, facing Brock and live events against Randy Orton.

  • Never really looks back at anything he does. “It’s just not in my nature” to admire his work.

  • Felt his WrestleMania 37 experience “was weird” and didn’t feel like he should’ve been in that match, because Edge vs Roman on it

Air Force Magazine article pushes the false narrative that AOIMSG makes ASTRO irrelevant, Gillibrand refuses to comment.

These Air Force assholes are blatantly pushing the completely false narrative that AOIMSG covers all the bases that ASTRO would if it became law. This shit is absolutely infuriating.

>The new office would seem to fill many of the roles envisioned in an amendment offered to the 2022 National Defense Authorization Act by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.). Gillibrand’s legislation calls for the establishment of a “Anomaly Surveillance and Resolution Office” in the Pentagon that would take on the duties of the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force, “synchronize and standardize the collection, reporting, and analysis” of UAP events, and evaluate their threat to national security.

>Under Gillibrand’s amendment, the office would also be responsible for ensuring UAP incidents are reported to a “centralized repository,” as well as crafting a “science plan” to develop and test theories “to account for characteristics and performance of unidentified aerial phenomena that exceed the known state of the art in science or technology.” The amendment also calls for twice-yearly briefings to Congress panels.

>Gillibrand is also proposing the formation of an “Aerial and Transmedium Phenomena Advisory Committee,” with appointed experts from NASA, the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Academies of Sciences, the head of the Galileo Project at Harvard University, the director of the Optical Technology Center at Montana State University, the Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies, and the American Institute of Astronautics and Aeronautics.

>The proposal has bipartisan backing, POLITICO reported, as lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have cited the issue’s potential national security implications as reason to take it more seriously. While much of the public fascination on the subject has focused on the idea of extraterrestrial origins for the UAP, some analysts and lawmakers have raised the possibility of foreign powers using new technologies.

>Gillibrand’s office has not responded to a request for comment from Air Force Magazine on the newly announced AOIMSG and how it relates to her amendment.

It’s been four days since this article was published and she still hasn’t provided them with a comment.

I am really, really hoping that this means they’re ignoring the Air Force’s clear hijacking of the narrative and acting as if the announcement of AOIMSG never happened,

A personal rant - Trying not to doom challenge (impossible)

I remember where I was when I saw the news on January 6. I stopped working right away to see what's going on. When trump took forever to make a public statement and call those lunatics back my first thought was: "he's hoping they succeed." I'm still convinced of that and the fact that a solid third of the population is still behind him scares me. The fact that the other two thirds don't really seem to be mobilized towards action scares me much more.

I'm in a position where I could become a permanent resident in a lot of other countries so that's always an option in my mind. I wouldn't like to move away because the US has given me some great opportunities. But I don't know if I can handle living in a defacto dictatorship. If team red wins in 2024 I don't see how that's not exactly what we'll be getting for reasons that any regular observer can probably see (red partisans taking over election committee positions, new voting laws across multiple states).

At this point I've lost faith in US institutions and the US population. The foundation is too shaky. The constitution is probably too short at this point. The entire legal system is based on a whole lot of linguistically and logically ridiculous rulings that have become precedent but at this point precedent is not as strongly favored by scotus. Other countries have constitutions that actually outline exactly in detail what can and cannot be done on various levels of government so it's not really up for debate the way it is in the US. It seems like what's been keeping the government in check were basically a mixture of popular support and gentlemen's agreements. Trump took both.

So what's going to happen? If team blue doesn't somehow pull off a massive effort to stop election shenanigans and can focus on building a functional democracy, team red will take power back and will cement it for the foreseeable future. Part of that might be a future convention of the states to potentially radically alter the nature of the US government. If you think that's not possible then please remember that Republicans were not willing to impeach trump even after they were evacuated because of his mob. At this point nobody in power is looking at the situation from a birds eye view. Republicans just want to win at all cost. Democrats just really don't want to lose so they won't take risks.

I'm not comfortable living under conditions that are basically based on handshake agreements. Team red can easily remove filibuster rules

TrueBurn

Full Spectrum Innovation to meet and beat investor hopes and dreams.

Introduction

With long experience in the DeFi space the TrueBurn team has witnessed time and time again the way developers pull the wool over investors’ eyes with flashy gimmicks. This is what inspired the contract that is now the foundation of TrueBurn. It’s time to remedy these manipulative techniques, which attempt to alter buyer behavior. It is time for a token that does what it advertises. It’s time for TrueBurn.

What is BURN?

As most people in DeFi know, a "burn" is a popular method used to remove a portion of tokens from circulation. Investors know that these burned tokens will never again be sold, but it yields no additional value.

What is REBASE?

Another recent development is the technique of rebasing. This

No, Bitcoin is not controlled by a small group of investors and miners (A rebuttal to the TechSpot article)

https://preview.redd.it/vli0ofqwf6w71.jpg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a704c47375637858c27216379ae8313dadf8be8

This could be a long read. Kindly bear with me.

I write this primarily in response to the TechSpot article from yesterday (r/technology mods told me they only allow “mainstream news articles with editorial oversight and fact-checking” so I'm sharing this here).

But I’d also like to take this opportunity to write about Bitcoin more broadly as someone who has been following it for more than a decade and I’ll try to do so without complicating the conversation for anyone unfamiliar with Bitcoin.

The TechSpot article cites a non-peer-reviewed National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) working paper from Igor Makarov and Antoinette Schoar.

NBER claims to be non-partisan but it is a private NPO funded by the likes of Bill Gates foundation.

The chairman of NBER, Karen Horn, is a former president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland and Head of International Private Banking for Bankers Trust.

The authors of this working paper, Igor Makarov and Antoinette Schoar are no experts in Bitcoin.

Makarov is employed by Financial Markets Group (FMG), which focuses on policy research into financial markets and works alongside banks and regulators in Europe.

Schoar is a professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management and co-chair of NBER Corporate Finance group, who has previously made it clear that she is no fan of Bitcoin with some pretty misguided takes on it.

It’s critical to note that the data regarding miners cited in this study is from when mining was largely concentrated in China. This is no longer the case.

The paper claims the authors have “the ability to trace miners on the blockchain.” The tracking method shown in the paper is based on subjective, unverified “algorithm to track the distribution of mining rewards from the largest 20 mining pools to the miners that work for them.”

The validity of this conjectural method of tracking was also subjectively verified before all mining operations migrated out of China to many different parts of the world.

Update 1.7 - Now live on PC

Update 1.7

Hunters,

Below are the details of Update 1.7:

highlights

Reconnect Support

Update 1.7 brings with it the introduction of the Reconnect feature – the ability to reconnect to a Bounty Hunt mission in cases where your connection has been lost or the game has crashed. There are two ways in which this will attempt to restore the connection:

  • “On the Fly” 60 second reconnect:
    • In instances where you lose connection to the server, but the game client is still running, we will attempt to restore the connection and get you back into the mission.
  • Game client crash/client restart/kick to main menu reconnect:
    • In instances where either the game client crashes, or if you restart the game while in a mission, a prompt will appear which will give you the option to reconnect to the mission or abandon your hunter.

    • This prompt will show the remaining mission time, the current state of you and your teammates:

      • Alive.
      • Downed – can be revived.
      • Dead – Redskulled/cannot be revived.
      • Burning while downed (better hurry, you might be able to get back and put them out!).

Developer Note:

This reconnect feature has been a huge undertaking, even bigger as it was something done post game-launch, but we are very happy to be able to bring this long-standing community request to you all. We feel this is a great addition and should allow many of you the opportunity to not lose hunters when losing connection to the game.

This feature has been a long time in the works and something we wanted to make as solid as possible before introducing it to the game. As this is a new system, we expect there may be some edge cases that might pop up. If they do, please make sure to forward them to our community managers and customer service team to ensure that we can address them as quickly as possible.

The Survivability Onion for Paranoid Wizards

The onion in question.

Wizards are sometimes thought of as the squishiest class (primarily by inexperienced players due to their d6 Hit Die and inability to wear armour), but in actuality are among the most potent defensively, as long as they put some time and preparation into it (the story of a wizard's life). The survivability onion is key to understanding this - the wizard spell list has plentiful options to allow the wizard play with many more lines of defense than, say, the fighter. Let's discuss some of their options for each layer.

Don't be there

When a wizard can act through proxies, they are largely safe from retribution. The option that immediately jumps to mind is Astral Projection, of course - whether Lesser from a safe place on the Material, or the full version from their own Demiplane, this allows high level wizards to provide both themselves and their closest allies with this defense.

Other examples of this include Possession, or sending called outsiders, constructs, simulacra etc to perform dangerous tasks rather than doing so themselves.

Line of Effect prevents some other potential applications of this, though there are a few spells that don't require it, such as Create Mindscape which can allow a wizard to act relatively safely while completely out of line of sight & effect.

Don't be identified

Prevent the enemy from knowing they're even in danger (or at the least, that the wizard is among the danger they face). Invisibility, backed up by Mind Blank at higher levels, is a way of achieving this, though this layer tends to peel itself once the wizard takes hostile actions (even with Greater Invis, unless their spells are silent they give rough location away when they cast, and intelligent enemies will be quick to assume invisible hostiles).

Scouting from safety into a teleporting/ethereal alpha strike could also be considered an example of using this - ensuring enemies do not know they are in danger until the last possible moment prevents their defensive or preemptive measures from harming their a

Goodbye STI.

After 2 years of ownership, I finally decided to get rid of my 2018 STI. I traded in for a 2022 Genesis G70, and I have fallen in love with driving all over again.

Why get rid of the STI? Simple. I had started to hate driving. I purchased it 2 years ago with about 20K in the odometer for $31,000. It had a loud exhaust and lowering springs, but I didn't care. It was, and still is, one of my all time favorite vehicles. I first fell in love with the STI back during Christmas of 2012. Growing up, I had always been a pretty big fan of the game Forza, and for Christmas, my parents got me the Rally DLC for Forza Horizon. I remember being super excited to play, and spent almost all morning racing and eating candy. The coolest part was just how much effort it felt like they put into it, especially with the cover car, a 2005 Subaru WRX STi. It came complete with options for a Rally-style body kit and even had a special livery designed by the developers.

When I bought my STI, part of it was due to just how cool I remember that Rally DLC being, and another part was that I really liked my 2014 Legacy Premium that I had at the time. With that being said, the larger, much more convincing part was the rumble of that legendary flat-four. I'll never forget my first time hearing the dealer starting it up and just standing there in awe. Even now, I can almost always pick out an EJ just from the noise alone. I'll admit, I was pretty much sold, right then and there. The dealer was very accommodating, as they were a small local dealer that mostly dealt in selling high-end exotics (They even had a Huracan Perfomante on the lot that day) on consignment. We walked in, told them what I wanted to look at and what prices I had seen for sale at other dealers with similar cars. We asked if they could do $31K, and the dealer just said, "I'm not really a big fan of the back-and-forth stuff at normal dealers, and I think I can do that, so sure!". I took the car home that day, and so began my several-day long journey into learning to drive stick. Being that I had done very little research on actual BUYING an STI outside of the basic specs, I had no idea just how challenging most people find that car. In fact, I didn't realize it until one of my friends drove it and said it was stupid, since he was struggling even with his 8+ years of experience.

After some time with the car, I began to delve into the modding community, albeit very lightly, and with more of a focus on driving feel than

New AI features and improvements

Officers! We continue to work on AI-soldiers improvements and have prepared a number of them for the upcoming major update. They will make your squad more realistic and live, adding more logic and tactical options in a battle.

BEHAVIOR MODEL SELECTION

You will be able to select among two different behavior models for your AI-soldiers. Aggressive - where a soldier will try to shoot any enemy on sight, and passive - where they will try to stay unnoticed and shoot only if attacked.

Using that selector it will become easier to use flank maneuvering and stealth squad movement remaining unnoticed until needed. The selection is made on the radial menu.

To better understand how to remain stealthy, let us remind you of the key enemy detection factors for AI:

  1. If the target is moving, and what the movement speed is.
  2. Body position of the enemy. Prone is less likely to be noticed than crouched, and crouched - less likely than standing.
  3. Distance to target.
  4. If the enemy is within the field of view or not.
  5. The sound of shots have very high priority in attracting AI attention, factored also by the distance to any flying bullets.

IMPROVED DANGER REACTION MODEL

If AI is being shot at, in order to fight back they need to locate their enemy. That now takes some time, depending on a number of factors like distance to the source of threat and it’s position relative to AI (the more behind - the more difficult to locate). Only after finding the source of threat can an AI-soldier start shooting back. But to do it they need to aim at the target, and the speed of turning and aiming will also be lowered to be more in line with the reaction and strength of a regular person.

LESS CHAOTIC MOVEMENT AND MORE THOUGHTFULNESS

AI-soldiers will tend to change their position less now, moving from cover to cover and obstructing your aim. Instead they will be more focused on finding incoming enemies, and choosing their position. They will also look more often in the direction of any possible incoming enemy and less time staring at a wall.

All these changes will make squad battles in Enlisted more diverse and realistic, allowing officers to use a wider range of tactical solutions. Naturally, we will keep working on improving the AI further.

Can we mediate the divisiveness of being vaccinated or unvaccinated.

Hi, I am new to Reddit and only stumbled on this subreddit by chance. I notice from reading posts that everyone appears to strongly commit to a side of vaccinated or unvaccinated, and any conversations between these two groups are fiery to say the least.

I feel like the issues have become far too divisive and binary. Can we not have discussions amongst us (vaccinated or not) that discuss the real issues of freedom and choice. No matter what your personal views are on the vaccine, surely we can have a conversation about the worrying nature of covid passes and the direction of our civil liberties. People must stop squabbling on the distraction of vax/no-vax and instead focus on the issue that we all face. No to covid passes.

Just Finished LN 8 My Thoughts Are.....

Just to make things more productive because I can already see people saying I don't like slice of life....

I love slice of life and I don't mind if a story has little to no action. Please don't assume I dont' like slice of life just from the first 4 paragraphs of my post.

Majority of the things that I like in this volume are slice of life related... Zanoba and Julie moments, Pursena and Linia being arrogant bitches, Rudy and Zanoba being nerds over figurines, Rudy being gay about Fitz... believe me I don't hate slice of life.

If you read my review carefully you'll know that slice of life stuff and lack of action is not the issue I have with this volume.

Volumes 1 and 2 of mushoku tensei is basically 90% slice of life and I really like both of those volumes!

Now onto the review and impressions!

Oh god..... This is volume is something else huh? It's totally different from the other volumes of this series so far! Its just that unique!

One word perfectly describes this volume and I believe Rudeus mentioned this word 3 or 4 times this volume as well. You know what it is?

Rudy said he lived a >!monotonous!< school life at Ranoa academy which perfectly described this volume as well which is ... >!Monotonous!<

Now, this doesn't mean that I completely hated this volume because there were some good parts here and there, to be honest. Sadly I had a harder time finishing this volume compared to the others because I sleep halfway through reading this. Woke up the next day and continue where I left off. That's a first for this series of Light novels and I'm actually surprised considering that I easily read all of the previous volumes with little to no effort.

I'm not going to leave this review on a sour note because I found it boring for the most part so the format here is going to be a quick summary from the top of my head, things I didn't like, things I liked, and then my overall impression of the volume.

The summary may not be perfect since I slept halfway and might have forgotten some details.

Quick Recap of LN 8

Rudy solos a red wyrm straggler while on a hunt with Soldat's team. He's getting stronger and has made a name for himself.

Our pure and lovely elf Elinalise found him and immediately drools over Rudy like the pure maiden that she is. Sadly Rudy has ED so he can't get do the deed with her even if she wanted to plus our pure maiden doesn't want to ruin her relationship with the holy Goddess Roxy and of

AITA for wanting to enjoy the last of my time with my dad?

My dad’s health is failing. He has prostate cancer and COPD and recently had a mini stroke and isn’t getting around much. Unfortunately he continues to smoke - even worse is he does so in the home. I’m careful about what I take into his place with me because anything that is inside for any amount of time ends up reeking of smoke. I’ve felt physically ill at times after visiting due to the exposure to seconhand smoke. I open a door to the outside as soon as I get there, and change my clothes and shower as soon as I get home.

This is likely the last Christmas I’ll have with him. While discussing plans to visit him for the holiday, my boyfriend starts to bring up how irresponsible it is for me to bring my teenage daughter into that environment and how I’m endangering her health and my own. Of course I do not want to endanger anyone’s health but I love my dad and want to be able to enjoy the last of my time with him. I don’t feel it is fair that my boyfriend is making this about the smoking. He essentially accused me of caring more about my handbag that I won’t bring in with me than I do my daughter.

Not visiting my dad isn’t an option for me and I think it would break his heart to not see his granddaughter. I have spoken with him about quitting and perhaps smoking less when we visit but my stepmom smokes as well. I told my boyfriend he doesn’t have to come with us. I feel the smoking is so second-nature to them that they don’t really think of it as doing something to harm us, but I am finding myself resentful that this is what I’m being forced to focus on in my last days/weeks with him.

They both claim they aren’t able to quit smoking and so I’ve given up the argument. My dads doctor even allegedly told him that it would be more detrimental than beneficial at this point. I realize my boyfriend cares about us and our health but I also feel like he is missing the point and making me feel bad for wanting to see my dad in spite of the smoking. Bringing my daughter into the conversation felt especially hurtful to me.

TL;DR - AITA for wanting to visit my dying father and bringing my daughter with me in spite of exposure to secondhand smoke?

Is D&D 5e the best TTRPG for Beginners?

I stumbled on this Polygon article and was wondering how others experienced 5e as their first TTRPG. The article points to what Apocalypse World (and hacks of it called Powered by the Apocalypse) do to make it an easier experience with more Player narrative control, simpler dice rolling, character creation aligns the party, lower GM preparation and there is a Powered by the Apocalypse that probably matches the theme or genre you want to play.

I don't entirely agree for new GMs. Powered by the Apocalypse (PbtA) games definitely require a very unique style to run these types of games following specific Guidelines and GM Actions. More narrative driven gameplay is very counterintuitive to someone used to boardgames and videogames. And letting Players have a significant narrative control means more improv which is a learned skill. But I did find for Players it was very easy to introduce.

But I wanted to focus on what makes 5e great for new DMs and Players alike and what are the pain points. 5e was my first system and I have gone on to try a dozen other TTRPGs over the last year. Overall, here are my key takeaways:

Pros:

  • Ease of finding a local table or online group (YMMV - this is mostly my experience in a populous suburban area of America)

  • Resources, resources, resources. From Actual Plays, DnDBeyond, Third Party content detailing how to run an adventure, How-To Guides for 5e and tons of simple adventures including the Beginner's Box with LMoP.

  • Relatively streamlined and simple compared to the days of 3.5e/PF1. 5e definitely can't stand up to many OSR (Old School Renaissance) or PbtA, but I still found many things intuitive like Advantage.

Cons:

  • Heavier Prep games - I think this has been a pretty common topic a couple weeks ago here about GM burnout. But the frankly poor writing of WotC modules that I find make it more work to run than homebrew does not help (some notable exceptions like LMoP do exist)

  • Lots of reading - Though streamlined, it is still a lot of mechanics and rules to learn. The natural language that was hoping to help makes it more convoluted and harder to really understand the meaning. I can't count how many times my tables have misinterpreted spells.

  • It isn't as flexible as people make it out to be. It is, by the rules, a Superheroic fantasy, streamlined combat simulator. It has a very bare bones system for rolepl

Why did Dante place Brutus and Cassius in Hell, but not Decimus, Titiedius, or Casca?

It’s well known that Dante’s placement of Marcus Brutus and Cassius in the 9th circle of hell is due to his pro-Cesarean views.

I understand Brutus’ placement due to being one of the primary conspirators, stabbing Caesar in the groin (the fifth and final stab-wound while Caesar was still living), and the poetic nature of “et tu Brute?/Kai su, tekno?”.

In addition, I can understand Cassius’ placement, given he and Brutus were the first conspirators, him being the first to be in the Theatre of Pompey, first greeted Caesar at the Theatre, humiliatingCaesar by slashing him in the face (second stab-wound), trying to stab Caesar again (as a fifth stab-wound) but failing to do so, and loyalty to Pompey. However, that he didn’t include Decimus, and to a lesser extent Casca and Titiedius confuses me.

Decimus broke bread with Caesar the night before his assassination, and even asked (or perhaps Lepidus asked, who also attended the dinner) Caesar what was the best way to die (to which he responded “suddenly and unexpectedly”). Decimus encouraged Caesar to continue the senate meeting where he was to be assassinated, after Caesar tried to cancel it due to ill health, then insulted Caesar's wife Calpurnia (though I doubt Dante would care about this aspect), lied that the senate was considering allowing Caesar to use the title of King outside of Italy, walked with Caesar to the Theatre of Pompey, employed gladiators to potentially assist in the assissination and hold off mobs, and stabbed Caesar in the thigh (the fourth stab-wound). Decimus seemed to be “the guy” at the ground level getting things moving, compared to Brutus who focused more on the initial plotting and post-assissination politics. Decimus was also the second-named secondary heir to Caesar’s fortune and children, exemplifying how close they were. Decimus, I’d argue, did more to betray Caesar (on three separate instances), compared to Brutus.

Casca was a childhood friend of Caesar, and was the first to stab Caesar -- in the shoulder. Casca also cried out for his brother Titiedius who issued the only fatal stab wound to Caesar (the third stab-wound). I’d assume that Titiedius, too, had a childhood long relationship with Caesar.

I could see that maybe Casca and Titiedius were in the second ring of the seventh circle (though I don’t believed they are named) as it is believed they committed suicide, but Decimus was executed. Shouldn’t he be right beside, if not in place of Brutus in Hell?

Two years on, what is the left of Labour doing?

Back at the beginning of the year, I wrote a slightly-throwaway comment saying the left of Labour had >"spent a whole year shellshocked from the 2019 election... and wasted huge amounts of time and emotional energy doing Keith tweets and trying to politically necromance Jeremy Corbyn"

I apologise for the sharp language, I was clearly in a bit of a mood that day.

However, almost another full year on from that, has anything significant actually changed? I think perhaps less focus is now put on Jeremy Corbyn individually, but the left has clearly still not got its shit back together from the 2019 election.

So a question for the left: what's the plan here?

As much as the right went through the same miserable process of anger and despair after 2015 and Corbyn's election as leader, there was at least a suggestion of a path forward:

  • Fight to prevent the left gaining control of all the levers of power internally
  • Fight to prevent the left making rule changes to cement a permanent advantage (e.g. mandatory reselections)
  • Find a serious candidate for the next leadership election
  • Build a group to run that leadership campaign and form the basis of LOTO after winning

I don't see any evidence that the left is moving forward at all. I don't see people coalescing around a potential candidate or finding the key issues that they are going to fight the next leadership election on. 'We hate Keith' isn't going to be enough to win over the broad soft-left middle of the membership - the people who voted for Corbyn then Starmer.

The more time passes the more I wonder whether the Corbyn phenomenon was the result of a confluence of factors that isn't going to be repeated - a summer leadership election with students on holiday and nice weather, an extraordinarily poor set of rival candidates, the fallout from an absolutely heartbreaking election loss and the 20-year New Labour project completely running out of gas.

If the left wants to be back in a position of influence in Labour it can't just wait for circumstances like that to naturally occur again.

So what's the plan here?

[method] how to stop being a disgusting loser

I’ve been reading GetDisciplined again and I notice a lot of posts here are from men who feel like they are disgusting losers.

You know what I’m talking about.

Fat. Depressed. Lonely. Anti social. Broke. Ugly. Etc.

You know, I’m one of the older guys on the internet and before Reddit we had SomethingAwful.

Members of the forum were called goons. And the stereotype of goons is the above. (Basement dwelling fat losers)

When I was a teenager I also felt that way.

I also helped myself and then later thousands of said goons to get better.

So I speak from personal experience.

Here is the plan that worked for me and thousands of others. And the plan that I still follow anytime I get into a rut.

1 — A fat blob cannot do very much

External problems cannot be fixed without a good internal foundation.

That means you can’t be successful or have girls or a relationship or be confident UNLESS you first take care of yourself.

If you aren’t happy with yourself. Others won’t be also.

For me, fitness was my savior. It gives you energy. Happiness. Strength. Better posture. A better, sexier body. And makes you more attractive in general.

Plus, now you have an activity or even hobby that you can master in the real world and which has real world value.

This is how you start to build your self esteem and confidence.

Mix that with audio books and you have a winning combo.

Action step

Start doing daily activity. (Start by walking)

Don’t train hard. Build a habit. Make it easy.

This isn’t about “burning fat”. It’s about building a healthy lifestyle. And the healthy lifestyle will make you fit LATER.

—-

2 — Stop being your worst enemy

If you read the posts of said “losers” you see that they are really their own worst enemies and their worst critics.

They are so fucking hard on themselves that anyone living in their brain will turn into a disgusting sad mess.

This is why you need to reprogram your brain.

Years of neglect and abuse cause us to develop a lot of toxic and negative patterns.

We become hard on ourselves. And build up a protection around our ego to stop feeling pain.

But that same protection is a prison.

Toxicity is actually just a defense mechanism.

“I don’t care” just means “I don’t want to be hurt again”.

This why it’s essential to reprogram the negative thoughts in your mind.

You need to update your mental OS to stop having a “loser mind” and start developing a winner mind.

Action Step

— Listen to audio books everyday as much

9-2-2021 Due Diligence - Tits Jacked

Hi friends!

First time posting a lengthy-evidenced back DD and want to keep this concise and factually driven after a very interesting day. My tits are jacked for BBIG tomorrow and this is why. All analysis integrates information as of 9-2-2021 7pm EST. X-post and share for visibility of FACTS and not FUD.

Tldr: If my understanding of the 8k - 424 Prospectus - is correct, price will skyrocket tomorrow either pre-market or after-hours, as they need to release the new share price of the combined mergers with a 9/3/2021 deadline

9/3/2021: 8:08am update 1: seems like no pre-market announcement. Hoping it is released after hours or maybe even during market hours. They are a public company and have a fiduciary responsibility to their investors with legal repercussions if they do not. Regardless, here’s the email for their investor relations so we can ask them why they have not shared anything with us investors or even tweet at them: Investors@vincoventures.com Press@zash.global Cferguson@edisonnation.com Contactus@zash.global T: 866-900-0992

9/3/2021: 10:20am update 2: stock is dipping along with the rest of the market. As mentioned in this DD, my price prediction is contingent upon them releasing the new share price, interpreted from their 8k. The pressure is on BBIG to fulfill their promise to investors. Email the emails above and ask them why/when they have not released it yet!

9/3/2021: 12:28pm update 3: stock now moving after dip with still no prospectus/proxy news yet; Bloomberg interview released today (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-09-03/tiktok-rival-led-by-moviepass-ex-chairman-enthralls-day-traders). Some have mentioned they released the Proxy last year around 2pm on a Friday. Remember, the day is not over and they have a responsibility to shareholders to provide transparent information. No email responses from any investors emailing them so far. I like the stock because of the merger and new valuation. This is all public information.

9/3/2021: 5:13pm update 4: crazy amounts of FUD right now but do not panic! BBIG released two separate prospectus as stated in the 8k and in this DD; however, the prospectus are retroactive in nature discussing the warrants. If you read on their website: the dates for each prospectus are 1. May 28, 2021 & 2. August 12, 2021. There is no share dilution coming. The information in them were talking about the old warrants. Most importantly, we do not know anything NEW ab

Article Summary: What can Aphantasia tell us about the role of mental imagery in human emotion?

Hi r/Aphantasia,

After a couple of successful posts last year (and now I've finished writing my phd thesis), I'm back to highlight Aphantasia research! I'll be posting summaries of the latest (or most interesting) aphantasia and aphantasia-adjacent articles I come across. I'm doing this on my own time (for fun and my own interest), so if I miss any articles or you have specific requests please feel free to PM me.

Great, who are you again?

Since this is a new account and it's been a while (thesis writing...) I'll re-introduce myself. I am a full Aphant and Vision Neuroscientist with total 8 years lab research experience and 5 years teaching experience. I did my undergraduate with a double major in Psychology and Neuroscience, and then Honours in Neurophysiology. I have just submitted my PhD (It is still out in peer review), which was focused on visual selective attention and I have recently started as a postdoc in a new lab, with similar research goals.

As a disclaimer, my professional research has a visual computational neuroscience focus, not on Aphantasia directly, but I am both personally and professionally interested and keep up with the latest.

The critical role of mental imagery in human emotion: insights from fear-based imagery and aphantasia

With that out of the way, today I'll be summarising [this paper](https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/full/10.1098/rspb.2021.0267) by Wicken et al., Published March 2021. Here's the full citation:

Wicken, M., Keogh, R., & Pearson, J. (2021). The critical role of mental imagery in human emotion: insights from fear-based imagery and aphantasia. Proceedings of the Royal Society B, 288(1946), 20210267.

Study Summary

Current psychological models of cognition hold that mental imagery serves to 'link' cognition (i.e., thoughts) to emotion, by allowing a person to 'predict' their emotional state by running a kind of simulation that pushes imagined sensory information into emotional brain systems, to see how they would react to that sensory information if it was live. Such a mechanism is thought to be involved in the development of depressive and anxiety disorders, where the simulations get 'too strong', become difficult to 'turn off', or the brain 'forgets' that it's a simulation at all. Broadly, this model proposes that mental imagery acts as an 'emotional amplifier.'

This article has used aphantasia as a naturally o

A Compulsive Worldbuilder's Guide to avoiding Compulsive Worldbuilding

Okay, the title is a bit of a joke. I am a compulsive worldbuilder - that is to say, I have created a homebrew setting fleshed out well beyond the scope of the two 5e games I run within it, and I still don't feel like it's finished enough - and that's okay, because worldbuilding is great.

Part of the reason imo that DMs like running homebrew campaigns is to perform the labour of love that is worldbuilding, and share it with our friends. This is actually showing a lot of vulnerability, and both the process and the results can be incredibly rewarding - but for the many of us who treat worldbuilding with undue perfectionism or who can sometimes let it get in the way of just making sure the next session is as good as possible, here are 5 reflections and tips that I think can help calibrate your worldbuilding efforts.

Run the f****** game!

Unless you do actually also write novels, any worldbuilding that you do is always in service to actually playing the game. Don't get caught up navel-gazing and feeling like you need every possible path the players could take to be fleshed out in advance, because a) no preparation survives contact with players and b) if you try to flesh everything out you will never start playing.

Put together a bare minimum level of detail for a session or two, a few key NPCs, locations and encounters. Build an adventure, not a setting. Play the session. Once you play a session, prepare some more content, and as you continue to play build your world progressively around your players' choices.

One thing I find is that trying to create things en masse (e.g. thinking of mayors for all of a continent's major cities) at once tends to reduce the quality of each individual creation. Focus on a small number of creations and make them really impactful and flavourful for when you put them in front of your players. This will create a genuine impression of thoughtfulness about your world, as well as the illusion of completeness, without breaking your back.

Sometimes, you can't play the game for a while, and that's ok and a great opportunity to flesh things out. But again, remember that you want to play a game, and so make a good game before you make a fictional encyclopedia.

Nothing is sacred

You've had a great session, the party is heading off to a new city, one of the players is really getting into character and you've thought of making the mayor of the new city someone known to him, a bit of a nemesis. What a great pl

Review of the "Long Earth" book series by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter.

I have read every single book by the late Terry Pratchett and loved ever single one except maybe Nation and the long earth series as it went along.

The first major issue with the books is that it is a collaboration of 2 people with completely different approaches on writing. Terry Pratchett is known for his colourful (Pun intended) fantasy novels. He is the one responsible for the main idea behind the story (original was a short story, contained in "A Blink of the Screen"). And of course anyone who knows Sir Terry's writing will instantly smile at stuff like "Tibetan Bicycle Repairman". So a lot of the creative work is clearly attributed to him in this book. Stephen Baxter's work on the other hand are mostly social studies. For example in "the flood (2008)" he describes how humanity would cope with an apocalypse that is caused by constant rise of the sea level. Stephen Baxter's focus is almost always on social interaction and less on individuals , emotions or the moment. So we have 2 people who have complete opposite writing styles. Terry Pratchett once wrote in a preface to "A good Omen" which he worked on together with Neil Gaiman: 'If you don't like certain parts of the book, just pretend they were written by the one of us you like the least.' And that is what I did for the most part here too. I feel like a lot of the books drier and less vivid parts can be attributed to Stephen Baxter. It's his style after which the book is not a simple story that takes place in one place and focuses on one person, but has to be an giant epic that spans over decades and shows societies development as a whole. Not that these parts are less interesting than the ones with Joshua and Lobsang, but they are definitely taking away the fun those 2 characters are creating.

The second issue is Terry's declining health at the time. Sadly he died before they were able to finish the books and so the last 2 were finished by Baxter alone (and it shows). It's hard for anyone outside of Baxter and Pratchett themselves to know just how much the decline in quality throughout the series is actually due to the unavailability of Terry or how much was intended from the start but actually is just bad writing.

So for the actual books. I will try and be spoiler free but for books 3,4 and 5 I will have to spoil basically everything because the plot is the main issue with those books (and also the reason I want to talk about it as a form of therapy). So I recommend only to click on the

The game feels more complete now

Everyone is naturally focusing on the MP experience, but since I don't currently play MP but am playing on the current beta, I thought it would be worth making an observation on how the single player experience feels different. I think the addition of Louisville is a real game-changer for SP as well.

There's a lot of things that every player does but which in the past haven't really been strictly necessary. You just do them because it's more immersive to do them and makes it feel more like you're eking out an existence in the apocalypse. The obvious one is base defence. Prior to basing up in Louisville I've always taken base defence seriously. I barricade windows, take time to clean out the area, build walls around my base etc. For the most part though, I could probably have gotten away without doing these things and been ok. I'm not some kind of elite player and I only play on normal zombie population, and at these base levels of difficulty your base is never really under constant siege and after a couple of days you've normally cleared out the surrounding area and are only really vulnerable to some random roaming horde or your own stupidity if you happen to drag a load of zombies after you. Realistically though, you're fine. That probably changes if you play on much higher population counts, but this would be a deliberate choice to up the difficulty level.

Louisville changes that completely. I'm in my first serious run in Louisville and so far it's been a constant running battle for survival. I chose a small fire station on the outskirts of the city to base up in. It only has a few points of vulnerability - 3 windows, one door and two garage doors. I've been needing to defend them ever since. Today I triggered an alarm while trying to loot a store across the street and it was terrifying. Vast hordes of the undead were drawn in from all angles. I couldn't just hide from them all because a lot of them were drawn to start attacking my base, so I had to try and fight. By the end of the day the whole area around my base was a pile of rotting corpses. I'd burned through 2 garden forks, 2 hand axes and still they kept coming. Tbh I don't know how my character is still alive. I had to spend several hours running away and dragging enormous hordes with me, jumping walls to lose them only to land in the middle of new hordes on the other side, and then repeating the trick to get away from them. It's clear that I'll run out of weapons faster than they run out of

England's batting talent gap for players born between 1992 and 1997

Another England test, another England batting collapse. The 16th innings of the year where there's been a collapse in fact (I wish I was making that up). Naturally once again English fans lament "why does this keep happening?" "What can we change?". And invariably after a bit of scratching around, the terrifying truth that this is about as good as it gets in terms of players who could be selected once again dawns on us.

But why is that? Why do England struggle so much for batting? The answer of course is long and complicated. The way County Cricket is run and played, on green pitches at the start and end of the season which are in no way preparation for test cricket, is part of it. As is the focus on white ball cricket over red in the last six years. We must also have to start asking questions of the coaching the players are getting when they come into the England setup.

All of that is true. But one thing I've not seen talked about much is for whatever reason, England have just didn't produce very many international quality batsmen born between 1992 and 1996. It's not, as has often been suggested, an issue of potential test players being lured into the white ball setup. This is an issue that transcends formats.

Here are the number of runs scored in all formats in the last 10 years for England by top seven batsmen, grouped birth year of the player. Here it is again but with the y axis capped at 10,000 runs so we can see more detail.

Here is the number of matches played by top seven batsmen across all formats for England in the last decade.

Lots of runs and lots of options for players born up until 1992, then it falls off a cliff.

Here are all the players in those results born between 1992 and 1996

Sibley (1995, 1042 runs)

Jennings (1992, 781 runs)

Livingstone (1993, 324 runs)

Duckett (1994, 349 runs)

Foakes (1993, 286 runs)

Lewis Gregory (1992, 162 runs)

Salt (1996, 104 runs)

Tom Curran (1995, 15 runs)

Craig Overton (1994, 6 runs)

So the lion's share scored by Sibley who has the temperament and grit to be an international batter, but at the moment not the technique, and Jennings who's just a bit naff. Behind them Foakes who's a world class keeper, but not in any way a solution to any batting issues, a few allrounders, Duckett who isn't quite international standard, and then Livingtone who is a great white ball player, and Salt who is also promising in

Minecraft 1.18 experimental snapshot is out!

Update (July 20): Experimental snapshot 2 is out!

With Caves & Cliffs: Part I released, we’re currently hard at work at delivering the second chapter. In Caves & Cliffs: Part II, we’re not only updating the caves and adding new mountains – we are also changing the overall terrain generation to make it all fit together. As these features will bring pretty big changes, we would love your feedback!

We need to sort out some technical things before we can ship these in a normal Java snapshot or Bedrock beta, so in the meantime we've created an experimental snapshot for Java that you can download separately. That way, you can try out the all new world generation and provide us with feedback while we continue our grand work of terraforming the world of Minecraft and integrating it into our normal snapshot/beta series.

This update can also be found on minecraft.net.

https://preview.redd.it/o1nlo3zn60b71.png?width=2560&format=png&auto=webp&s=9f7e4197988e8f165be8d164ef4002919e1258ad

Changes compared to Caves & Cliffs: Part I

Here is a demo video.

  • New world height and depth
  • New mountain biomes (lofty peaks, snowcapped peaks, grove, meadow, and snowy slopes)
  • New cave generation (cheese, spaghetti, and noodle caves)
  • Local water levels and lava levels in the underground
  • New cave biomes generate naturally underground and inside mountains (lush caves, dripstone caves)
  • Natural variation in terrain shape and elevation, independently from biomes. For example, forests and deserts could form up on a hill without needing a special biome just for that.
  • New ore distribution (see this chart)
  • Large ore veins
  • Integrated mountains, caves, and cave entrances.
  • Monsters will only spawn in complete darkness

NOTE: this snapshot is experimental, and everything is subject to change. Some features may be significantly changed or even removed if needed to improve performance. Also keep in mind that this experimental snapshot is missing some important performance improvements that we are currently working on, so things may be slow.

How do I get the experimental snapshot?

Some Reflections on ADHD and Meditation

I'll preface by acknowledging this post may be fairly niche and apply to only a small percentage of this subreddit. Nevertheless, I felt like sharing some insights I've come to regarding meditation and its impact on my ADHD.

I thought Mindfulness and meditation would be my panacea for ADHD. However, as is expected, this was not the case. Thankfully through bouts of therapy, various medications, and meditation I have grown to understand myself and my relationship to this disorder in very interesting ways.

What I find most striking is the difference between meditating on medication versus off medication. For years people talked about the tranquility practice can bring and for years I felt I was constantly lost thought. I may taste it for a brief moment and then in the next to be completed entranced by a web of thought. I left long sessions (30 mins) feeling mentally drained, constantly pulling my attention back to the present moment. With medication, I find these moments of tranquility last far longer. Detaching from thoughts takes minimal effort compared to what felt like a herculean act previously. The impulse to chase an emotion, or fixate on a distraction, all of it lowered to levels that finally felt manageable.

Beyond these practical benefits, it is the insights into the nature of my mind which I find truly fascinating. To observe my mind both medicated and unmedicated, I see clearly how powerless I am in controlling what actually enters my awareness. For so long I fought to change the endless chatter in my head as if pure willpower could rewire an entire disorder. Recognizing these stark differences has allowed me to simply focus on my reactions to the chatter. I have also grown a great appreciation for myself, admiration that despite a constant barrage of impulses and distractions I am still able to direct my attention and live a life I find meaningful. It has finally allowed me to be kind and patient with myself, to let go of judgments and conclusions that failed to take the totality of who I am into perspective. In sum, I feel medication gave me the opportunity to quiet my mind so that meditation would be able to help me understand it and accept it. Thank you for reading, if any of you out there have had similar experiences, I would love to hear about them.

After 19 weeks eating well and working out Im down 41lbs and officially in ONEderland today!

As the title says I got on the scale today and for the first time in over 10 years the number didn't start with a 2, in fact it was 198.6! I had decided earlier this year I was going to start being wholly healthier, making better food choices, cutting back on drinking, regularly working out. It was amazing how quickly it became almost second nature to choose the healthier options.

I still have 30lbs to hit my goal weight, but I've also chosen to add mental focus to my health. A toxic work environment is what drove me to start drinking daily and I'd often stress eat comfort foods. So yesterday I took the leap and put in my resignation as things have only gotten worse over time and with the colder darker weather I felt the struggle to turn down those vices much longer.

So here's to our health, we all only have one life to live and it feels great to finally be making choices for its benefit!

Riding an electric motorcycle completely changed my perspective on motorcycles.

A friend lend me his electric motorcycle for three days and it was amazing.

  • You don't need to change gear. You can completely focus on handling and braking.
  • You don't make any noise and there's next to no vibration. I always felt like an asshole driving my 600cc at night in city.
  • Instant and completely linear torque. It feels amazing.
  • You can literally throw it on the ground without braking anything or spill fluid (that's what its owner do every-time, almost like a cheap bicycle).

Mind you, it was the equivalent of a 125cc. I can't even imagine how amazing it should be to ride something bigger. It made me realize how small the importance of engine's and their behavior were. I see a lot of push back against electrical motorcycles, but frankly after trying one, I think it's just a natural evolution.

You're still on two wheels and the feeling is still amazing, so relaxing. I've bring it to the track and it's pretty competent.

Good experience overall. Can't wait for their price to come down and big manufacturers to offer their twist of it.

Every Wednesday here on r/ForestofBowland and r/Ribblevalley we look at some of the other regional subreddits around the British isles, with the idea of compiling a kind of A to Z, this week we’ve chosen r/Hull, the sub for the maritime city of Hull.

Hull

For U we chose r/Hull, the subreddit for Hull, or Kingston upon Hull, to give the city it’s full name, a maritime city on the north shore of the Humber estuary, about 25 miles upstream from where it meets the North sea. The city began its life as a port in the 12th century when it was used by the Cistercian monks of Meaux abbey to export wool, and was given city status in 1897, more recently in 2017 the city was awarded U.K. city of culture.

This new found identity led to the government investing over £1 billion in infrastructure and since then the city, which had suffered a period of decline due to collapse of both the main industries of manufacturing and fishing, has gone through a bit of a renaissance, with hotels, bars, conference centres and more being built and the city’s student population climbing to over 16,000 due to the success of Hull University.

The port of Hull remains as busy as ever, handling over a million passengers a year which pass through to the ports of Zeebrugge and Rotterdam in the Netherlands, it has also become the focus for the expanding wind farms of the North sea.

Just up the Humber from the docks the striking, angular prow of The Deep can be seen jutting out over the water, this building, opened in 2002, houses a unique aquarium and marine research centre, dubbed a ‘submarium’ as it is partially submerged in the seawater surrounding it, in which can be seen over 3,500 species of sea-life including sharks, rays, cephalopods and Europe’s only captive pair of Green Sawfish.

Teignmouth

r/Teignmouth is the subreddit for the Devon town of Teignmouth, a coastal town situated on the mouth of the river Teign about 12 miles south of Exeter, it is a handsome little town with long sandy beaches surrounded by the verdant rolling countryside which makes Devon so attractive to tourists, it is also only a few miles away from Dartmoor National Park.

There is a Victorian pier in Teignmouth, Teignmouth Grand Pier, which is over 150 years old and has many of the traditional rides and games which it would have had originally and some more modern ones such as a F1 style cart racing track! The seafront also has a heated lido which w

This Week At Bungie 8/26/2021

Source: https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/50655

This week at Bungie... Where do we even begin?

Tuesday was a big day. Really big. So big, in fact, that a little bit of the news ended up slipping into Wednesday. Many of you were tuned in to watch every detail as it was revealed, but there was a lot to cover. Let’s do a quick recap for the New Lights out there. Yes, you’re about to read an onslaught of links, but we couldn’t possibly cover everything without this turning into something that looks like patch notes:

As for quality-of-life improvements for our PvP players out there, we have some fun news on the Security front, and for Trials as well!

We’ve given you all plenty to read and there’s still quite a bit to discuss over the next few months.

Let’s start with some expectation setting, shall we? During the Destiny 2 Showcase, we spoke of reworks coming to all Light-based subclasses in Destiny 2. While we showed you a small glimpse of gameplay, we

Themes, Contrasts and Parallels (Violet Evergarden - The Movie)

With the movie serving as the ending of Violet’s story, I wanted to talk through some of the lovely themes and undercurrents that exist within it. To me, it was a wonderfully layered and poignant conclusion to her arc. And the more I re-watch it, the more I see interesting echoes, callbacks and contrasts to story elements that came before.

Beginnings and Endings

As an example, let’s look back at the very first thing said about Violet in Episode 1 of the series, and the very last thing said about Violet at the end of the movie.

  • “Her existence was hidden from everyone. However, people that knew about her said that she was a weapon. She was just a tool… without a heart” (VE Episode 1)
  • “There was a popular doll who lived on this island and who everyone loved. Her name was… Violet Evergarden” (VE: The Movie)

The two quotes directly contrast with each other and show just how much she’s grown. In the beginning, Violet’s existence is hidden – by the ending, she’s well known. At the start, others view her as heartless – by the end, she’s beloved by those who knew her. Early in life she's considered a ‘soldier’ – later in life she's remembered as Auto Memory Doll. She’s no longer dehumanized as a soulless weapon – she’s now honored as a kind-hearted person.

The two quotes are clever bookends to her journey. And IMO, it’s one of many ways that the movie ties up themes and arcs that were raised within the show. Which I’m happy to ramble about in the sections below…

https://preview.redd.it/9uht7qy336v71.jpg?width=683&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=728dde8307d6a6106c67760034c7064058fdac6a

An unanswered question...

In the very first episode of the show, Violet looks at an emerald brooch – it reminds her of the Major’s eyes – she raises her hand to her chest, and quietly asks an important question:

The way I felt when I saw this… This feeling… What is it called?

As the audience, when we watch Violet’s journey unfold we realize that the thing she was feeling in that very first scene was ‘Love’. She felt a pang of that emotion from the very beginning. But she simply couldn’t name it. She didn’t understand it. Younger Violet has tremendous difficulty understanding/categorizing her emotions, even when she’s feeling them. So during the show, she spends her time desperately trying understand what Gilbert meant when he said that he loves her.

And within her journey, she gains insight into Gilbert’s ‘I love you’. She comes to understand

I'm not satisfied with the direction my state is going down. I'm also old enough to run for the TX state legislature. Should I do it?

I am a Social Democrat who has lived in Texas since I was 5 years old. Given how conservative this state is, it's only natural that the state will have mostly conservative policies in place. However, things are now getting really out of hand here. Gov. Abbott has failed TX in an embarrassing fashion and so has Dan Patrick.

I just can't stand by and watch this state fall into right wing insanity any longer. I have to run. As it turns out, I'm old enough to run for the state's House of Representatives. The minimum age to run for this is 21, and I'm 22. So that makes me eligible to run for the House.

Unfortunately, both my representative and senate districts are occupied by Democrats and I don't want to replace them. Also, I'm still in college right now, so I need to have some time to focus on my education first.

But what do you think? Should I actually run for the state legislature post graduation? I just can't sit idly by and watch the state fall into insanity.

Long Post - My conclusions about upcoming SOS operations regarding Niagara, and important PR notes that I think people forget

Hi

These are what I believe to be important points about SOS, in particular the press releases of the past year, and some of my conclusions regarding this info at the top. Directly below I will detail my conclusions, and then list all the press releases with what I believe to be the most important parts.

  • Niagara is expected to supply 50MW power in a mixture of renewable and grid power. April 12 PR says the hydropower plant has an estimated capacity of 9MW, so assuming that is correct, 41MW will be from grid power EDIT: BDL site claims 40 MW max power vs last SOS PR claiming 50MW, I'd trust 40 more

  • We know they have 14238 BTC mining rigs with BTC Hash Power of approximately 527 PH, as well as 1408 ETH mining rigs with Hash Power of approximately 1056G

The TOTAL BTC HASH POWER (assumed using 50MW) ONCE AT FULL CAPACITY will be 1000 PH (Nov 09 PR). No mention of ETH. Notice this is MORE than the 527 PH previously listed

Phase I will use 20MW. Assuming a direct correlation between the 1000 PH @ 50MW, I am assuming we will have 400 PH @ 20 MW

Therefore, my initial assumption was that "Phase 1" would just be utilizing almost all of the prior 14238 BTC miners (not to mention ETH) since those have a total hash power of 527 PH. This is 52.7% of the total expected hash power.

Since the entire operation is expected to be 1000 PH, and Phase 1 will use 20MW out of 50MW, it reasons that not every single rig purchased may be able to used in Phase 1 (keep reading...)

• The new website related to FD LLC, BDLCyber, provides info on their operation https://www.bdlcyber.com/news/construction-progress-of-wisconsin-data-center.html?fbclid=IwAR2pZP4WeGsE9M8WEfPAE4BVq7CPTConeFwlw_ydq27wApBRHctNVqy5uxI

  • (6) 20 ft container, 800KW power each, up to 168 units. (10) 40 ft containers, 1600KW power each, up to 336 units per. This adds up to the 20 MW for Phase 1

  • 8000 digital mining machines have been shipped to and received at Wisconsin supercomputer hosting center

  • However, given the containers they have, it looks like they'll only have 4368 machines running for Phase 1

• Jan 21 PR says the rigs are “built with parts including the Momentum T2T 37T Double Speed,1408 Momentum A10 Pro 780M, from HY International Group New York Inc - similar to "HY-Momentum T2T and HY-A10 Pro"

  • T2T 37T stats (BITCOIN) https://www.cryptocompare.com/.../innosilicon-t2-turbo.../ Power: 3100 W per unit

  • HY-A10 Pro stats (ETH) https://myminershop.com/..

Dualing at level 2 and you: it's better and more fun than you might expect! Create entirely new kits via early dualing and play with them early in BG1EE still!

EDIT: where it reads "scales off of the active class level" it's actually, more accurately, "scales with the average of both classes' levels, rounded up". I knew there was some weird formula going on for the scaling, but I didn't know what it was exactly until now. Thanks to /u/gangler52 for helping with figuring out the exact formula.

Just a big ol' thread of me talking about my latest addiction: dualing at level 2. Though I am gonna mention slightly higher dualing in a few cases, but the point remains that I'm talking about dualing absurdly early, to the point you even forget you dualed. They just feel like a new human-exclusive kits.

I'm not gonna list the fact that all of them give access to class-exclusive gear, cause you know that already. Unless it's something really noteworthy, that is (eg Robe of Vecna).

And lemme just go ahead and say that the real fun here is with the Cleric, Mage and Thief duals. Dualing from Fighters and Rangers is pretty boring (or even bad) at this level, so feel free to skip those two sections. And Druids... Well, Totemic Druid can be fun to dual at this level, I suppose.

As you might notice, the +s and -s cover more than the usual kit descriptions, cause it's meant to describe what each kit adds to the dualed classes and I omit advantages that don't exist at the level I'm talking about.

With that said, let's get to it.

FIGHTERS:

Unkitted Fighter:

+Access to grandmastery

+Extra weapons for Mages/Thieves

+Extra armor/shields for Druids/Mages/Thieves

+A good bit of extra HP

Comments: the only time you'll pick this over Berserker is when you want to use bows/crossbows/slings.

.

Berserker:

+Access to grandmastery (except non-thrown ranged weapons)

+Extra weapons for Mages/Thieves

+Extra armor/shields for Druids/Mages/Thieves

+A good bit of extra HP

+Enrage

-Limited to 1 pip in ranged weapons

Comments: the basic dual. You'll rarely need more than one Enrage per combat, so just having one cast is enough. Beyond the obvious benefits, Enrage damage factors into backstabs and the thac0 bonus helps classes with crappy thac0.

.

Wizard Slayer:

+Access to grandmastery

+Extra weapons for Mages/Thieves

+Extra armor/shields for Druids/Mages/Thieves

+A good bit of extra HP

+2% Magic Resistance

+25% cumulative chance of arcane spell failure for 5 rounds on-hit (bypass MR, no save) and new hits refresh the duration (according to the wiki, it's a bit bothe

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

TL;DR: The public float of GME is a minimum of 759.37 million shares; short interest is a minimum of 106.16 million shares shorted (using 226.42% of float in 1/2021); and the official SEC "Gamestop Report" was an indirect way of stating that (a) the short sellers never closed the overwhelming majority of their short positions on GME and (b) the public float of GME is at least in the hundreds of millions of shares due to counterfeit / phantom / CEBE shares. Computershare was always the only answer without catalyst.

If I gave the hedge funds and market makers the benefit of the doubt, this is the absolute lowest I would calculate the short interest and public float of GME (I am 99% certain the short interest and public float are higher, and S3 Partners even said so):

GME public float earlier this year (1/2021): 46.89M

A world's end

So I wanted to do an experiment. What happens to each of the races if they suddenly find themselves living in a corrupted biome?

https://preview.redd.it/mdke6wo6o9381.png?width=711&format=png&auto=webp&s=e1fdf385b80d4822c418c01662bc42d0832e92ee

The answer? Everyone dies! But the order they died in is a tad interesting.

Humans (Lower right) were EASILY the first to fall. I think they maybe lasted 5 minutes at 5x speed.

After that the elves and Dwarves (lower left and upper right) both held the line for a while after that but eventually the undead hordes from the human world combined with local outbreaks eventually tipped the scales. The elve's lines broke first but the dwarves followed fairly soon after to the point I'd chalk it up to RNG.

But the Orcs were stubborn. Even when all other kingdoms fell silent they held their lines. Their borders unbroken. But finally after several times the length of time it took the others to fall the borders broke and their demmise was swift after that.

So in summary none of the 4 races are capable of surviving in the corrupted biome. All 4 will fall eventually although the Orc's strength and vitality makes them last a pretty long time compared to the other 3 races.

So after experimenting with the corrupted Biome here are my final thoughts

Curse and undead: Curses should make undead stronger rather than weaker. Basically working like blessing does for living races. After all undead (especially in this context) are basically living through the power of curses and it should strengthen that undeath rather than weaken it.

and blessing should 100% not benefit undead as it's completely contrary to their nature.

New Spawner idea The Crypt: Because no living race can survive in the corrupted biome it makes it mostly no man's land. So like the demons and cold ones why not make a spawner? It could spawn just one type of undead or all 3 (Little undecided which would be better) and help keep a corrupted biome populated with undead even if the other races don't intrude upon the land.

My most out there idea that will probably need a modder rather than Maxim as he has other stuff to do Biome Adaptation: The focus of this idea is isntead of the 4 races going 100% extinct in my corrupted world what if there was a chance any race born in a biome could be adapted to it?

Happy Holidays from Ryan Cohen and Company!

Hello Apes! I'm a guy who worked on Satori a bunch.

Disclaimer: This is going to be my thesis on the primary reason why I am bullish on GME as a company in both the short and long term. Do your own research, check my logic, and remember that this is not financial advice.

With that in mind, HOLY SHIT HOW HAVE I FORGOTTEN THAT THE HOLIDAYS ARE THE ABSOLUTE BEST TIME FOR BOTH RETAIL AND VIDEO GAME EARNINGS!

TO THE STEGASAURUS OF REVENUE!

GameStop specifically has ALWAYS had a significant presence in the Holiday markets. Let's take a look at just how significant the Holiday season has been to the company over the last 20 years or so.

To begin, I'm using a free subscription to an investment site to access this data. The numbers should be easy enough to find to verify, but I don't want anyone to feel like they have to grab an account anywhere.

That in mind, LOOK AT THIS SHIT

ANYONE WANT TO GUESS WHICH AREAS COINCIDE WITH Q4?

Honestly, that chart can give you all the information you'd need, but lets dive into the specific numbers here really quick.

Q4 and the holidays have been the highest dollar revenue quarter for GameStop every single year since 2001. In fact, since January '06 (which happened to be the launch year of the XBox360 and PS3), 14 of the 15 Q4 revenues have been higher than every other quarter the company has had.

As important there, is the fact that approximately 40% of annual revenue is generated in Q4. (thanks u/sharkbaitlol) This is ESPECIALLY true in years post console launches. The largest jumps in revenue in the past 20 years have come the year after console launches, when production and industry support have caught up enough to supply. It happened in 2006, again in 2014, and we're right on pace to have that hit again this year. HARD.

The Q4 surge is a well observed phenomenon within the retail industry. All of GameStops direct competitors show the same pattern. I'd include charting for all of them, but honestly it's enough of a given that if you want it, you can go find it yourself. Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Microcenter, NewEgg. The gaming companies themselves also show it. Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, Sega, Blizzard/Activision, EA, Valve. They all have spikes around product launches, etc, but the reliable money maker for them every year is Q4.

I hope I'm driving home a point of how absolutely fuck

Shorter Shorts every day - Why they keep digging the hole deeper and deeper

This is some DD I did for myself. I’m sharing it because you might find some of this interesting. If you don’t like it, there are many other excellent DD to suit your bias. GLHF.

Here, I wanted to return to first principles and look at what the current short position looks like for the Hedgies right now. bc curiosity.

Not all the shorts were created back on Jan 27th, many were certainly, but to understand the current short position on GME we need to consider the price at the time each batch of shorts was created and sold into the market over all the days since Jan 27th. This allows us to determine whether they are are up or down on their total position.

So, I pulled the historical Short Volume Data from Chart Exchange and cross-referenced it with the GME price history from Barchart. The NYSE Short Volume (not to be confused with Short Interest) is the number of trades each day that involve a Short sale. When Short volumes exceed Long Volume you have a net accumulation of Short Interest. (Nekkid Shirts!)

Here are my assumptions for this analysis:

  1. My analysis begins on Jan 27th, GME was just about to moon and they turned off the BUY button. Daddy Citadel and Point72 came in to bail Melvin out to prevent the game from being exposed.
  2. For purposes of this DD I will ignore any bazillion-share short position they might have had previous to this date and assume Cit/72 opened new shorts at this time, establishing a fresh new short position as of that date.
  3. The bad guys have some way to create an effectively unlimited number of naked shorts. By means of Future Swaps, Volatility Swaps or whatever mechanism it is they are using. I don’t know what that mechanism is, please browse other DD’s if you want to go down that rabbit hole, but here shorts are shorts are shorts and I am not focusing on how the magic hat they got pulled out of.
  4. The Short Volume of the stock is being generated 99% by the bad guys. This is a battle between Apes and Hedgies but a few day traders might have got burned trying to short GME but the vast majority of the financial pain lies with Cit/72/Melvin.
  5. The difference between the Short Volume and Long Volume represents the net number of Short shares created every day. i.e. When Short Volume exceeds Long Volume you have a net increase in Shorts that day. When Long exceeds Short, there is some covering we will assume.

For reference, some current tickers for Short Volume stats:

|Ticker|30-Day Avg Short Vol|Seems

Why do you think KPOP artists aren't being taken as seriously in America?

Background:
I'm a college student currently working on a capstone/senior project. And since I'm into KPOP, I naturally wanted to make my project based on that. It focuses on the KPOP industry and marketing in hopes of building a bridge to uplift Asian-American artists.

Discussion:
KPOP has been a cultural phenomenon amongst Asian representation in American mainstream media for some time now. What confuses me though is that even the biggest act, BTS, is either still unknown or not taken seriously despite breaking many records. I've seen a lot of common discussions around xenophobia and cultural barriers/differences. I welcome more diverse perspectives as to why, but if you would like to touch on those reasons listed earlier, please go into depth. I'm hypothesizing that it's a lot of that "foreigner" or outsider kind of vibes. I wanted to get multiple perspectives from y'all in the community.

In addition to that, what do you think are or aren't successful marketing strategies from KPOP in America and why?
