I was looking at a map today and noticed that there almost seemed to be a land connection between India and Sri Lanka. Looked into it, and found out that there use to be a chain of natural limestone islands that would have connected India and Sri Lanka by land, called "Adam's Bridge", that people could have literally walked across as late as the 1500's. After noticing changes I've been studying maps regularly and I don't ever recall seeing these limestone rocks before.
It's also mentioned in Indian mythology (in the Ramayana), where it was called the Setubandhanam. This is definitely new to me - when I was a lot younger I read the Ramayana and I don't recall any mention of a natural bridge.
If you look on Google Earth, it looks like they are starting a highway to connect the countries by land. What I find especially intriguing about this change is it seems to have had an effect on important historical texts as well, which were originally written in Sanskrit, not English.
