I mean that scene tonight between Kendall and Logan felt word for word like James and Rupertβs break up. Amazing stuff.
Think people have been a bit upset about the start of the season but itβs not game of thrones in the sense idc who sits on the throne. Itβs a story of the uber rich devouring themselves through their loveless relationships and cut throat families. Specifically itβs the story about one family who are full of pariahs trying to take over a dying but goliath company.
Always remember that yes these folks are, in general, the uber rich (born with the golden spoon) and powerful but, specifically, they are the Murdochs: Lachlan (Roman), James (Kendall), and Elisabeth (Shiv)β¦ Age wise, Kendall is Lachlan but personality heβs more James and Roman is more Lachlan.
Hereβs a key bit about Jamesβ time at 21st Century Fox/News Corp: βevery step James took in the outside world burnished his reputation with an eye toward a shareholder fight in the future" to win control of the family business.source
Those that come outside from not only the money but really the power, like Greg and Tom, embody the Hemingway quote:
βThe world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry.β
These last two episodes are Succession to itβs core. Particularly thought Episode 7 was one of the most heartbreaking and cruel episodes on TV in years. Felt like an episode that Armstrong has had in his head for ages plus Roman has absolutely nailed Lachlan these past two episodes.
Iβm curious to hear any reputations/characteristics about the family outside of these murders. For example, my family said the Murdaughs have long been known in the SC legal community for βowningβ the judicial system in their area - getting whatever they wanted when they wanted it. My friendβs mom (also a solicitor in SC) said they were notorious for abusing the system in their favor.
Anyone else know any stories/reputations characteristics?
